"Have you seen my lipstick? It was here a minute ago." I spun in circles, looking all over my room for the cherry red lipstick that I set on the bed a moment ago.

Krystal shrugged, her attention focused more on her reflection in the mirror than on my missing make-up. "You're always losing things."

"Am not! Things just disappear, I swear!" It was me and Krystal's first time to go clubbing! I couldn't lose my favorite tube of lipstick tonight!

"It has to be here somewhere!"

She ignored me and went on fixing her hair.

I rolled my eyes and began checking under things, behind things, inside things. The lipstick was nowhere to be found.

"Did you check under your pillows?" Krystal asked absently.

"No. How could it have gotten under there?"

She looked away from the mirror and shrugged. "I don't know. Gravity? Just check."

I reached out and plucked up the first of numerous throw pillows on my bed. There was nothing there. Curious, I began picking them all up, until under my favorite one, the royal blue one, there came a squeak.

I covered my mouth and backed up until I ran into Krystal. "Jenna, would you be careful!" She shook her head and wiped the smudged lipstick from her face.

"I think there's a mouse under my pillow," I whispered to her.

She froze and turned, fixing her eyes on the pillow.

At the same time, we stepped up to the bed and reached for the pillow. When we pulled it back, fast enough that anything beneath wouldn't touch us, a small, white mouse was revealed.

We were silent, but the mouse, who was clutching my lipstick, turned a pair of onyx eyes on us. "Oh, hullo," it said. "Do you need this?"

         We screamed.
