Reasons to say "No"Entry #687902
If you've been reading my journal, here as of late, you'll notice that I'm working a sales job at a mail order company. In the last couple f weeks I've noticed that a lot of people have a problem with just saying "No" to an add-on offer that is a part of my job. The people I deal with are, more often not, years from from the work force, as in being in the twilight of their lives. I better say this before I continue on, I like my job and working with this golden age of people. In a lot of ways I understand their concerns and their reasons but...

Most of these people are sheltered from the public for a plethora of reasons, like medical reasons, fraility, or their living arrangements. They have a chance to talk with other people unless they dial a number on their phone.

When asked a question pertaining to a product I want them to partake in they just won't say "No"... they will give me their life stories, an elongated explanation why they don't think they'll use or need it. Mostly they tell me about their "fixed income" and their age.

A co-worker got a rather unique story of why she couldn't use the rewards program offered...

She had a cadaver dog that stumbled on the missing piece of evidence of a murder and this person was arrested and sent to jail. This alleged murdered threaten to have a "hit" placed on the dog's head and this sentence was carried out. The owner of the dog was then placed in some kind of police protection when the murder suspect was released from prison and from then on the police warned the women of leaving her house. Since the woman couldn't leave the house to shop, the savings from the rewards program couldn't be obtained in an manner that she could benefit from.

There is a story in there somewhere... I wish I would've fielded that rejection phone call.
