Change...Entry #688003
Why is it so hard for people to accept "Change"?

There are people in my life, whom I will try not to mention their names to protect their state of mind, who get queasy over the words, "New and Improved".

The older the generation, the more steadfast they are at not wanting their world to evolve into something possibly better. In the house I'm living in computers might as well be an infectious disease like Polio or Small Poxs. Technology is what brought this country to its financial ruin because a computer is taking the jobs from union members. "In my day..." starts the retired worker, "we didn't need credit cards because it was a cash and carry society. There were no gaseous clouds polluting our cities, no acid rain, no global warming or fuel shortages". My generation knows better...

There are people, that I know, who think the recent recalls by Toyota are due to improving to fast and the cars aren't put through the same stringent tests in the past. Some people, whom I also know, think that going "Green" is worth all the time and energy to protect our resources and environment. Some even think that our food taste different than in the past and we should go back to making it the way we used to.

Now on a more personal change note. I have this one person who thinks that life-altering events (child birth) shouldn't change the way a woman's body looks. For his wife to have gained a few pounds since they've been together is the worst possible sin a person can commit. He also thinks her attitude has changed and she is taking him more and more for granted as the years go on. She is his main topic of discussion, even more so than how bad his sporting teams are doing.

I, for one, embrace change. If I didn't I couldn't be happy in my life since it really has gone in some of the directions I thought it would in "the day". I roll with the changes... now if I could learn to edit my rough drafts.
