Dawn to Dusk
A pure zephyr sweeps the portal
in readiness for Dawn’s majestic entrance.
The first soft glow seems shallow
against a darkness that would linger.
Dawn subtly pushes against Night’s boundaries.
Seeking light removes cloaks of invisibility,
leaving clouds blushing at their revelation.
Bright fingers of yellow and pink,
daub the earth with life.
Night resists, then,
tired from abetting clandestine events,
retires, often leaving the moon to keep watch.

Neither day nor night
can usurp the moon’s power.
The incessant watch-keeper of earth and tides,
rules the dominion beneath,
with little regard for pomp and ceremony.

Dawn’s appearance is brief,
heralding the coming of the new day.
Respectful rituals played out,
Daylight seeks control of all
who are touched by her light.
Shadows dance in her path,
bending and stretching,
as she passes overhead.
Feeding drought,
nourishing plants,
melting ice,
she finally sinks
into Dusk’s welcoming arms.

The warm glow of their union
an invitation for Night
to once more,
drag across the sky
a heavy cloak of darkness,
adorned with sequins of stars.
