Chapter 25
Evokia woke in her own house, confused as to how she had gotten there. She remembered going to the bar the night before and waiting for Xeron to come with her summons to see Pagamon but he had never arrived. She had a few drinks, must have been a few more then she remembered because she felt hung over. As she sat rubbing her head she remembered bits and pieces of her night, one thing she distinctly remembered was picking up some red headed woman.

“Audrey,” she muttered, “Her name is Audrey and I need to deliver her to Drudge like I said.”

At first, she thought the pounding was her head until she realized it was someone at the door. She muttered profanities at whoever was there, they sounded as if they were trying to break her door down. Audrey slept on oblivious to the noise on Evokia’s couch.

“Parolis?” She stepped aside to let him in. He only took one step inside before stopping.

“Pagamon has summoned you about your pet, his remains have been found. Drudge also came and lodged a complaint with the Prince about some promise not being fulfilled. Pagamon is in a foul mood and ready to order your imprisonment at least.” He was frowning and didn’t look as if he’d gotten much sleep.

“Oh for the love of…” She scrubbed her hands through her sleep tousled hair and then pointed at the couch. “See her sleeping there? I picked her up last night so I could deliver her to Drudge. As for Andy, I have it covered. Since you never came last night to summon me, I was planning on going to see Pagamon as soon as I had delivered my package to Drudge. I still plan on doing my to-do list in that order. He will have to cool his temper a little. Shouldn’t take me too long to get there. You can tell him that you delivered his message and I’m hurrying to obey if you’d like. I don’t mind taking the heat for turning up late.”

Xeron frowned but knew he had no choice. Evokia would show up when she was good and ready to. “Don’t push your luck with him. Try to keep a lower profile and maybe you’ll live another year to pursue your vendetta against Darya.”

“Hey, you’re the one who said I won’t be able to live in the shadows anymore.” She called after him as he hurried down her walk. She decided as she shut her door, that she had better put at least a little speed into her morning or Xeron would be right about her not being able to pursue her revenge.

“Audrey, yo wake up.” She called as she tugged on a pair of shoes. It seemed she had fallen asleep in her clothes, and although they were rumpled she found she didn’t mind wearing them a bit longer. She pulled on her black trench coat over it all so she wouldn’t look quite so bad. Audrey was sitting up and blinking now. Evokia smiled and propelled the girl to the door.
