The large mansion loomed in the background and the yard was decorated in ribbons, bows and balloons. All of the decorations were pink including the giant inflatable castle and gazebo. Not one table but three held giant mounds of gifts, each beautifully wrapped and containing an exquisite gift. Little girls dressed up as princesses ran amok while adults merely smiled at them. The exception was two women standing by each other both with a look of displeasure on their faces.
“I can’t believe this party and for a five year old!”
“I know and how much do you think they blew on this extravaganza?”
“Not sure, but I have heard guesses around 100 grand. They provided dresses for all the girls. How much did that set them back?”
“Tom’s not hurting for money, but they didn’t buy the outfits they had them made.”
“Who would have the time?”
“It’s a secret.”
“Oh come on. You know me I won’t tell.”
“I do know you and you can’t keep a secret, but screw it. The world needs to know about this one. I learned it from the maid they have an elf.”
“No, you can’t be serious! An elf?”
“Yes, but he looks more like a dwarf and he is very small. He doesn’t eat much and they pay him in brandy!”
“I thought they were above buying magical creatures. Denise herself said she would die before getting on that trend.”
“Well, there daughter wanted this party and her friend was sick of him. We might see a few more I guess Susie over there has been jealous of her best friend’s unicorn.”
“I’m still amazed that they found these magical creatures. Where was the portal?”
“Somewhere in South America and they keep on coming through. They were mining and bam they found it!”
“Look at that! I bet that’s Susie’s big surprise”
They looked over to see a large crate wheeled in to the center of the party. Susie dressed in an elaborate gown with actual crystals and gems immediately started jumping and clapping her hands. The crate was opened by chains a unicorn was drug out. Susie ran over to her parents and gave them hugs. The parents beamed with pride at their little girl’s happiness. No one noticed the unicorn miserable from the chains and beautiful face now muzzled. The sadness in it eyes could break your heart if anyone cared to look.
“Good God, what a spoiled brat.”
“Doesn’t your daughter have a birthday coming up?”
“Yes and I am getting her a unicorn too.”
