Working on final edit, synopsis, & letters. Hopefully before Thanksgiving can send off to BAEN... assuming the real world doesn't hinder my goals too much.

- Well it's only taken me a year! Final Edit done on Bane
- ID #451734 entered on 08-31-06 @ 4:47 am EDT
Well okay not really a year because I had some trouble and had to let it sit. So several months total - with 2/3 of it being done the last 3 months. Thanks so mcuh for the hardcore help from or I would have never been able to do it all. But I'm finally done with all my edits on Bane of Existence. Still have to crunch it all into one massive word doc and do a word count. Finish up the Synopsis & cover letter to send out to BAEN but I'm hoping to have all that done by the end of Sept....... - Bane - Submitted to BAEN publishing Dec 15,2006
- ID #527025 entered on 08-09-07 @ 8:19 pm EDT
Yeah okay so I took the plunge and then forgot to update my record keeping. I was just happy to get it out the door considering all the trouble I had using their submission form. 3MB files were not meant to be uploaded on dialup from overseas. Now I'm in the waiting stages, which can take up to a year with them.
It's already August 2007 and no word as of yet that I've seen, so I'll count that as a good thing...

- Desdanova sent to Agency: OnxyHawke May 30,2007
- ID #527026 entered on 08-09-07 @ 8:22 pm EDT
Yeah - my next venture that I'd like to see published but it's much smaller; only 60k at the moment but I can't seem to see how to make it larger. Sent it to an agent to see what they would think...

- 6/10/07 OnyxHawke Agency Responce: Desdanova
- ID #527028 entered on 08-09-07 @ 8:29 pm EDT
Well - while a rejection, I guess it's not too bad. They're responce was that the novel was too short for their liking (coming in at only 60k) and that if I increased it to 90k or had another larger piece, to send it to them again for another look.
So now I guess I'm off to try and figure out how to add 30k to a story that I've already edited 3 times...

- ID #527029 entered on 08-09-07 @ 8:36 pm EDT
Okay up for another plunge attempt. Since this place is looking for short fiction and have a 60 day turn around time, not that I would use this stuff for anything else - but I thought it might be worth a shot. Submitted: The Term Paper (short story) and we'll see were it goes...

BAEN Manuscript Submission Guidelines
For fantasy, any magical system must be both rigorously coherent and integral to the plot, and overall the work must at least strive for originality.
Those manuscripts which survive the "first cut" as outlined above are then judged primarily on plot and characterization.
Style: Simple is generally better; in our opinion good style, like good breeding, never calls attention to itself.
Payment rates: very competitive.
