Dream

I had a tornado dream last night. I long ago concluded that these dreams are a subconcious manifestation of stress and since I live in tornado country that seems to be my subconcious choice of expression.
I haven't had one in quite awhile before last night. Usually the dreams seem pretty realistic but I wake up before the tornado gets to me. I have had a handfull in which they have gotten right up to me before I wake up. In this dream, though, the tornado actually picked me (the place I was hiding in with some others) up and whirled me up into the air. Since this has never happened to me in reality and considering I have never even seen a tornado except on TV, (though I have been in some pretty hairy storms in which tornados struck fairly nearby),it was quite imaginative in the part of my subconcious, I thought. It was pretty scary, though probably not pm the same scale as if it really did happen. I came out of it fine.
The scariest part in these dreams is always in seeing the funnel or funnels coming and trying to run away and get to some shelter on time. This dream started out as a pleasant dream in which I was teaching a little kids sunday school class (which I do in real life) and church was over and I closed up the sunday school room and left the church and it was the church I went to when I was a little girl myself and the day was pleasant and sunny. Then, somehow, I was in this car/SUV with this woman who I didn't recognize at all but in the dream I knew her. The sky was all stormy looking and we were listening to the radio weather person talk about storms in the area and suddenly there was this terrible urgency to find somewhere to hide. By this time the sky had turned really nasty looking (If you haven't seen the sky right before a tornado storm It's hard to describe the scary menace of it).
(indent)We drove into the parking lot of a restaurant and I was in sort of a panic by then. All I wanted was to get out of that vehicle and get into shelter but the lady I was with was having trouble manoevering the vehicle around the lot and into a parking spot, because it was this insanely huge SUV as it turns out. She ended up having to park sideways across three or four spots before we could get out of the truck.
(indent)The next scene is me pushing through the glass side door of a fast food restaurant in a full blown panic as the day outside is now very dark and I know a tornado is coming. I fall as I push through and outer door and more or less crawl - oh jeez! it just thundered outside, for real, just now as I type this! jeez, jeez, jeez!_
(indent)Okay, okay - I more or less crawled through the inner door of the restaurant and across the floor toward the kitchen area of the place. Once behind the counter it stopped looking so much like a fast food place because the stuff you'd expect to see weren't there, just alot of people sprawled or huddled around the floor and walls. I scrambled into a clear area just as someone cried out. I looked up and - this part is hard to explain if you didn't see the dream - there was a window, windows really, like in a fast food drive through and we could see this slender, silvery tornado funnel coming toward us and it got closer and closer and we could see it spinning around right outside the window and it wasn't doing any damage and I began to relax and feel silly. "Its just a little tornado!" I told everyone, or maybe I thought it to myself, "It's just an F1 or F2, it's not going to do anything! Then a cold, realistic thought occured to me and I looked back further beyond the window (in this dream there was no realistic sound. A real tornado would make all sorts of noise but these didn't make any)and I think I screamed or called out or something - "it's just a baby tornado, the big one" or "the mama is coming!" And there it was! A big, black, whirling monster of a mama tornado. It came down around us and I was lifted up away from the restaurant with part of the building (the drive through alcove was torn away from the building and apparently that was where I had crawled to). Shortly after I was on my own, move and twisted around in this whitish, confusing, scary whirl. My biggest fear was that it would let me fall from a big height. Then suddenly I was down and unhurt and then...I woke up.
So, there you go. It was an amazingly realistic dream, at least while I was in it.

First Day of Spring!

Today is the first day of spring. Flowers, new grass, baby animals --- cold wind, rain and its 39 degrees out there! (I'm writing this at work so I keep looking over my shoulder*Wink*).
The thing is that the last two weeks, well...most of the entire so called winter really, but especially the last two or three weeks have been spring like. We've had a winter drought and very warm weather much of the winter and the last two weeks have seen everything starting to bloom, kids wearing shorts, etc. The city's water supply lake got so low that we started pumping water from the Arkansas river, which tastes awful by the way, because of the lack or rain. Then, last weekend, a so called 'cold' front moved through and we had major tornados all over the area. Then another week of spring, then bam! we are hit with thirty degree temps and rain and even possible snow, along with forcasts for more storms, this weekend and today. Winter on the first day of spring.

I had another disturbing dream last night. Not a tornado one this time, but bad enough. Maybe the stress is because my 38th birthday came and went exactly one week ago and the big 40 is looming mighty close it seems to me. Two years doesn't seem like very long at all! I actually had a mild panic thing last night because I started thinking about the bed bug epidemic the media insists is starting to sweep the nation. Is that stressed or what!? *Rolleyes*

Junior High - sigh!

Last week my twelve year old niece made the Jr.High drill team. You would think this was a reason to celebrate. Everyone else in the family is. However, she wanted to make cheerleader and all four of her closest friends did make cheerleader, so Rachel is devestated! We, the entire rest of the family, are absolutely delighted that her contact with these four friends will be much more limited now however. Current and future trouble is what they are, one especially. Good ridance is what the rest of us say. We hope Rachel will make new and better friends now.

Excitement In The Air

The air show is in town. Our airport is smallish but it is home to the 188th Air National Guard F16 fighter wing - other wise known as the flying Razorbacks (after the only decent sports teams in the state, the Razorbacks of the University of Arkansas). The 188th has been reassigned, however, and one of these days they will be flying A10's instead. Since A10's are also called Warthogs it'll be sort of fitting.
Anyhow, the air show, which we have every two years, is in town and it brings a sense of excitement to the city. Anything that is good and different from the norm is welcome and since the jets and other planes that do the show take up the sky over almost the entire city of Fort Smith it livens the day/weekend up for all of us.
Spring is finally in the air again today, too. There is a cool breeze but the day itself is bright and warm with the promise of spring - and storms. We are supposed to get more rain and mild storms later tonight and by the middle of next week some more severe weather. I'll keep you posted.

Payday!

Its payday! And its Friday! Double joy!

Yikes, we had an exciting time last night! Storms and more storms. Three right after the other and all of them had tornados in them. Luckily none of the tornados touched the ground! At least not officially. There are stories that a couple of smallish ones did touch but the official story is no tornados and no real damage. Whatever. It was quite a tense and exciting evening! They showed a pic on the news of a wall cloud, basically a pre-tornado, that one of the storm chasers managed to get a shot of in a flash of lightening. It's pretty impressive and pretty scary. There is like this double wall cloud with this half formed funnel hanging down between them. Awesome and awful!

I've been taking this Omega-3 fatty acid supplement for about five months now. It is called Coromega and comes in a flavored pudding form that prevents the nasty fish oil flavored burps that are common with other fish oil supplements. One of the things it is supposed to help is all sorts of functions in the brain including alertness, memory, etc. Since I started taking it I have had many good effects, but I also have found that I am having a much more active dream 'life'. My night time dreams are much more vivid and I think I am having more bad dreams or dreams that border on bad - or maybe I am just remembering them more. It's the only possibly bad side effect I've had, though. So far.

Spring Cleaning - first attempt

I thought I would attempt some spring cleaning of my apartment today. Hah! Ten years of accumulated junk - and you can only fit so much stuff in a limited space. I barely made a dent and have gotten pretty discouraged. I guess I am sort of a pack rat.

I should like to record my opinion on the current immigration legislation - which does seem to be directed at the hispanics more than anyone else. I don't have a problem with the hispanics, even the illegal ones, being here, I don't have a problem with them coming here and I don't think they should be run out of the US nor do I think people who employ them should be penalized. I do think they should be expected to contribute taxes and that employers should pay all the requisite taxes and social security on them, but out economy actually needs them.

Spring!

I love spring. The next street over from me is a semi-historical street. Some, though not all, of the houses are really old and they have well established yards and gardens and they are gorgeous right now! Red climbing roses, tulip trees, red bud trees, and brilliant red chinese maples, and white and pink dog woods. They are so pretty! I think I want a chinese maple. They have these little, brilliantly deep red leaves that look like little cousins to marijuana leaves. I passed a yard that multiple colors of tulip flowers too. So wonderful.

Of course, with spring come the storms as well. We are facing yet another round of severe weather today. All my favorite thursday shows were pre-emted by the local weather guys last thursday and look as if they will be again this week. No CSI, sigh.

Well, I suppose I should get back to work. Later.

Friday!!!

Well the storms didn't get too bad yesterday afterall. That isn't to say that there weren't some hairy looking clouds out there and ALOT of lightening. A huge rotating storm did pass over the town where my parents live, just south of Fort Smith, but no actual tornado touched down, thank goodness!

Storms are really very pretty from a distance. Dark on the bottom but towering gleaming white with streaks of color from the sun glowing around the edge, then flowing and rolling out high up in the atmosphere in that 'anvil' formation. Its really pretty and really awsome!
