This Book was created by Larry Powers (Kansaspoet).
He passed away on November 23rd 2009.
He will be greatly missed as a mentor, writer and dear friend. This book is being kept in my Portfolio as a tribute to his writing.

Researching Poetry

Poetry is language used with intensity. It is not, as so many suppose, decorative speech. Poets tell us what our eyes, blurred with too much gawking, and our ears, dulled with too much chatter, miss around and within us. Poets use words to drag us into the depths of reality itself, not by reporting on how life is, but by pushing-pulling us into the middle of it. Poetry gets at the heart of existence. Far from being cosmetic language, it is intestinal. It is root language. Poetry doesn’t so much tell us something we never knew as bring into recognition what was latent or forgotten or overlooked

~~Eugene H. Peterson~~

It is my desire that, with this research, others will be inspired to wade out a bit deeper, away from the comfort of safe shores, and stir the waters of life with ‘intestinal’ poetry.

For a more concise listing of poetry forms, see my good friend Bianca’s Poetry Forms

For clarification, I want to explain that this is a research vehicle. It is not intended as a complete explanation of any form, term, style, or device of poetry. Each entry researches two things - for instance, "The Grossblank and Iambic Hexameter" covers a form and a meter. I learn the things I learn by researching and offer this book as a research tool for other poets. The provided links are an essential part of this research tool.

Thanks to Brenda for adopting this research tool.
