I used to work at a grocery store in small town Texas. We didn't get a lot of wintry weather but when we did, Katy bar the door! Seemed like everyone in town came in to stock up.

I really should pay attention to how much fiber I eat in a day. I try to eat plenty of fruits and veggies and whole grains, but I've never tallied a daily total.

It is normal that a person's weight fluctuates throughout the day. Depending on your height and size, it will be more or less. If you weigh in first thing in the morning with an empty stomach and bladder, then you eat light food all through the day and work out like crazy, you'll still end up heavier at night. It's natural and should not get obsessed over.

I can relate to the urge for daily weigh-ins, but they really add stress to the cause. Weigh ins are best done once a week at the same time of the day. See how it went from Sunday night to next Sunday night. The difference on the scale will be the true difference, not part of the natural fluctuation.

Somehow diet became synonymous with restricted eating, and that's a problem. I've tried to explain it to my kids and talk about it so that they understand what I'm trying to do. I tell them that I'm trying to improve my diet by eating more whole foods, vegetables and so forth and I try to focus on the things I'm adding rather than things I'm avoiding. It's definitely a long term investment.

My husband is also a big guy, and he hates the BMI. It is basically still your same old height / weight chart, and "mass" doesn't differentiate between lean muscle mass and plain old fat.

I reached 25k yesterday! Halfway done!! Hooray!

I'm not sure I'll write much today... I have another 5k walk this morning (a "Great American Smokeout" walk that benefits ACS) and Mr. J and I both don't have work today, so it'd be difficult to spend the day writing.

I'm really hoping to do 3-5k tomorrow.
