A special squad of state troopers enters the town of Eida, Texas, which has gone silent and learns, to its horror, the reason why. The town is covered by a huge white dome created by some strange eight-legged horrors of a kind previously unseen on Earth.

As the state police and, eventually, the National Guard, surround the town and try to figure out what to do, they also try to uncover the true mystery of the horror they now face.

Meanwhile, inside the town, its citizens try to survive as best they can. One man, lucky to be alive, must put aside his apprehension and seek out the heart of the mystery, for it may be pivotal to the survival of not only the town, but of the state and, possibly, the entire planet.
