CHANGES AND NEW ADDITIONS: Riley is an orphan who just turned fifteen. His parents died in a mysterious fire when he was little and he doesn't remember anything about them. Although he's lived at the orphanage nearly all his life he doesn't have any real friends. He's actually more of an outcast. But things are about to get a lot more complicated for Riley when he finds out he's grown fangs. Riley was back at the orphanage and everyone was there: Freddie, Natasha, Mrs. Wiligens, all the other orphans who had never cared for him, and even Mr. Thomas. Despite this everything started out pleasantly enough. Riley and Natasha stood alone in the cluttered recreation room. She was even more beautiful than he remembered. He watched her closely as she went on about everything that had happened while he was gone. She'd never believe what happened to him. Riley knew this was it. He had to tell her how he felt. The thought of how she would react scared him to death, but a huge part of him just wanted to get it out there already. Who knew, maybe she'd say she liked him too. Riley was just about to spill his guts when someone three times his size pushed him to the ground and knocked the wind out of him. It was Freddie, who'd seemingly appeared out of no where. He stood close to Natasha and whispered something in her ear. "You didn't really think you had a chance with me, did you Riley?" she let out a phlem filled laugh. "Aren't you going to get up Fang-Boy?" Freddie mocked. Riley was just about to take care of Freddie once and for all - fully believing that with his newly developed strength he could snap Freddie's chubby neck in half like a twig - when the scene changed abruptly. Riley was running down a long, dark, narrow hallway. Tripping and falling, he looked back to see a mob of people were right at his heels, carrying stakes and silver loaded pistols. "Get back here you beast! Get back here! There's no use running!" Mr. Wiligens screeched, but Riley sped up. He was almost at the end of the hallway when Mr. Thomas appeared, blocking the only exit and pointing a pistol in Riley's direction. For moments that seemed like years Riley stood there, petrified. This was the end. Riley felt the wall behind him... felt a door knob. Within seconds he was hiding deep inside a dark, little closet. The closet door shook as the crowd of people outside pounded their fists up against it. Riley could hear them yelling and screaming, trying to fight their way inside. He was trapped, but he was also safe, so long as they remained outside in the hallway. A bright light filled the closet. It seared through Riley's skin and he screamed. He was on fire... he was dying... turning to dust... he was.... |
