Me and Mel...Wedding Day [#1006073]
Aug. 9, 2001..Our Wedding day

The above picture has graced both my other blogs and of course I had to have it here...Me and my sweetie.

This is my third blog here on WDC. This is, in effect, my house. So please come on in and make yourself at home. Please don't mind the mess because this part is still under construction and I will be adding stuff in the next few weeks until I get it the way I want it.

About the Title: "Tor's House"....Well in a way, this is what a blog is to many of us. It is our way of inviting the world into our personal space. Just like in real life, I will endeavor to be the best host to my guests that I can be, but you must understand...in my house I tend to speak my mind. I apologize in advance for any who may feel uncomfortable.

What will you find here? Oh that's easy....Humor, strong opinion, and even some philosophical musings....or what passes for that with a dumb ole country boy.

So I welcome everyone...come in and let's sit and chew the fat awhile. Let's talk about stuff and see if we can figure out the answers to the world's problems....or what to make for lunch...whichever.

The septum situation looks promising. If it can help with the apnea the quality of your sleep should improve drastically.

My sister put herself through thirteen years of college and finally began her career as an anesthesiologist. After just two years in the field she left the practice, completely disillusioned with the medical community and its "big business" mentality.

There's a scene in Patch Adams in which a doctor is describing a patient's condition to several medical students who then begin asking technical questions. They act stunned when Patch (Robin Williams) asks the simple question, "What is her name?" Great movie—Sadly, the Patch Adamses of the world are few and far between.

I hate doctors. You wanna know why they say a doctor "practices" medicine? Because not one of them has actually reached a point where they are really GOOD at it yet. They are still PRACTICING.

Sore throat and fever for 2 weeks straight is unnecessary in today's world of medicine, isn't it?

After a week I gave up and went for help. She thought she knew what it was - something long term that would go on for 2-3 months they couldn't help. Blood work to make sure. A week waiting for the results that came back saying, nope, I'm fine now. Really? I can still hardly move and hardly talk. So.. a throat culture. Another week before those results? They couldn't have been done at the same time? Now I wait and still feel like...

H*** they can maybe prevent AIDS now but heaven forbid you get a sore throat or ear ache.

Now I'm wondering if my constant ear problem could be solved the way yours was. Hm... what's your specialist's number? Or maybe I'll go try one of those wax desolving kits and see if if it stops the near constant pain doctors have shrugged off for years. Never mind the other thing the blood work found no one bothered to find before. Ugh.

I had a near fatal case of pneumonia when I was four and found out 5 years ago that I was supposed to get pneumonia shots every 10 years since then. I got my first one at age 29, and I was supposed to have them since childhood! Thank God I didn't get pneumonia in those 25 years or it could have been fatal!

My mother found out in her mid-50's that she has mitral valve prolapse and was supposed to be taking massive doses of antibiotics before every dentist visit - that's a condition you're BORN with! It took them five decades to find it?

Then there's my father-in-law. He had some bad episodes with his health last spring. After 16 months of bouncing around doctors, a stay in a psychiatric hospital, numerous scares, several falls, countless changes in medications and many threats of dementia and nursing homes we find out last week what the problem was: Water on the brain. The kicker? He had surgery two years ago to install a valve to relieve that pressure. They just figured out that it needed adjusting LAST WEEK! Why didn't they start with what they knew was already wrong 16 MONTHS AGO?

God save me from health care. Throw a crispy one in there for my family/in-laws!
