Got off to a rocky start this morning. Having been woken up in the middle of the night by an unknown text message, probably from some drunk, I had trouble getting back to sleep. Then when I got up at 8, it took almost a whole hour for my brain to wake up. Oh, well, it gave me time to catch up on emails.

One such email informed me that I was nominated to join "Invalid Item" , which is quite an honor. I do want to join, just not sure if I should join the short story group or the novel group. So far, I have written mostly short stories, but I do want to shift my focus to novel writing, especially with revising this NaNo novel.

After catching up on a few forums, I finally got to writing at 9, but I had only gotten about halfway to my goal by 9:45. I had wrapped up a scene so I took a short break to do laundry before starting the new scene.

I'm finding it very difficult to transition my mind from one scene to another. Shifting among the different characters is challenging. I just get used to writing one or a few characters and then I have to leave them behind and get into the minds of new characters. Maybe when I revise, I'll go through all of one character's scenes, to get a better feel and more consistency with that character. We'll see.

Anyway, I did manage to meet my goal, just barely, at 2,288. But that's still making it! And I'm still ahead of schedule, having written 12,248 total so far, when my projected total was 10,750.

These longer periods of writing are quite challenging, but I know I can still make it. Hopefully, I'll get enough ahead that I can write lightly on Thanksgiving day. I don't want to skip it completely, but maybe just write a couple hundred words in the morning.
