Lacey is a blue haired, troubled seventeen year old girl with a distant, alcoholic mother who struggles to bring up her youngest daughter, Effie, since her father left her several years before. Lacey is left to earn a living and take care of Effie, and when the boy she's been watching for weeks on the train asks her on a date, she hopes that things will start looking up for her.
