I do love cats. Mine are great at catching bugs. I have no bugs in my house, at least none that I can see. I also have no mice or any other rodents for that matter. That works for me. Like you, my cats are indoor pets and I have no idea if either of them would make good hunters, but they are loads of fun to watch.

I am very sorry for the loss of your cousin. I too wish that a better solution could be found to the problems of today. But it seems you can nver make everyone happy at the same time.

I don't mind lizards in my house, they eat bugs! Sometimes I want a cat again, then I'll see a coyote on my lawn and know I can't have one.

Very well thought out and eloquently written. It's a complex topic indeed.

I have no comprehension of why, when life is short and painful enough as it is, people want to fight, maim and kill. But on the other hand, where there are dictators, they have to be dealt with.

The media makes the armed forces seem an attractive career choice and youngsters are impressionable. While we were in the US our local church here was filled to overflowing for the funeral of a young man, killed in action. I remember him as a sweet five-year-old playing at the school I worked at.

It is all so unnecessary if people could just be reasonable and greed, power or whatever drives the dictators could be wiped out. But sadly, I can't see things ever changing.

I have never seena bullfight, except in the movies, when of course they are completely different.I have however, seen a fox hunt, yes they are cruel, and yes, I have also seen a pig hung and its throat slit so that it bleeds, have you ever heard the scream that a pig makes, bloodcurdling.
I guess that whatever we do to animals,be it in the wild or domesticity, it's life. Yes, I agree human life is worth more,though that might be another topic for anothet time. Great story, no I hate seal killing as well.

I've never understood the fascination with bullfighting, or cockfighting or dog fighting...but I have shot some big game...but felt horrible so I quit hunting.

Great topic - you have been pondering this a while. Mexican Hispanics love and bet on cock-fighting, Afro-Americans seem to gravitate to dog-fighting and I like the UFC fighting, man on man, few rules, and there IS a referee.

I did try to club an adult possum one night after consuming too much alcohol, with a baseball bat, I only succeeded in knocking a hole in the fence. Possums disgust me, can't help it. Ughhh.

Me, I don't think I can get behind anything that adds needless suffering. I won't judge others because that is not my place, but I agree that in the scheme of things it is the humans that are most important, but maybe if we learned to treat our fellow animals kinder, we could transfer that knowledge to being kind to our fellow humans.

Should I have my way, I would live on a farm and raise my own meat, kindly, and kill them mercifully. A little up close and personal, but then I would know that they had had a good life. As it is I don't think about my meat while I eat it, if I did I would eat even less meat than I do now.
