Smoking permitted or no smoking permitted that is the question my friend. Whether your a smoker or non smoker who's right is it anyway. Is it the guy with the oxygen tank on stand-by or perhaps the Miss to good for you that's for sure, in the corner over there, who slurps down three cappucinoes for breakfast every day then skips lunch and dinner. If you said both I agree. But, who does it really come down to when it's time to make the call. Is it actually yours or mine or have we all become so stupidly helpless that the man, big brother, the U.S. government needs to step up to the plate and tell us what is best for us and what we simply can and cannot do. And, I don't mean to bring religion in to it but if I have to I will. Because the masses would agree that God himself gave us the choice of free will.
Now consider this scenario if you will, you stop by a friend from works house on your way home and she asks if you'd like to stop in for a cup of coffee, and oh, I don't know, lets say a slice of pie before you hit the road again. "Sounds good," you bounce back. As your hand reaches for the door handle, she casually announces, "oh, there's just one thing, though, I have a no clothes rule in my house. I don't believe in them and I don't allow anyone in my home to wear them either." Now it is you that has a choice. You'd love to sit and chat awhile with your co-worker, not to mention the coffee and pie, (Ok, what the heck we'll mention the dam pie) but, let's face it you have your beliefs to. And, that is no one sees you naked, except well maybe your husband, or boyfriend, and your doctor when it's absolutely necessary. And, maybe your mother-in-law on occasion by accident but that's a whole different other scenerio. "Ewe, anyway, to strip or not to strip that is the question now at hand. I don't know about you but I have this thing where I really don't do things that make me feel way to uncomfortable or that are way to illegal or immoral. Some people call it a conscience. Other call it free will. Either way, I pride myself for being capable of making my own decisions, and consider myself lucky for being given the opportunity to be able to choose such things as my choice of employment, spouse, (although the spouse part is easy for me to say because I am not gay) how much property tax I want to pay according to which zip code I choose to live in. And, whether or not I want to risk causing a nine mile pile up on the freeway on my commute to work while I non chalantly ask my significant other if the kids got off to school ok into the cell phone. Now, I am going to ask you this, turn it around and let's say you walk into an establishment that doesn't allow smoking. What do you do? Well, if your like me and your probably not but let's say you are, typically, if it's a restaurant I usually can wait, if it's taking longer than I thought then I slip outside for a quickie if I want to. On the other side of the grass, however, if I want to go to a bar or night club or similar scene smoking must be permitted. Or, it's most likely a no show for me. Not always, but. But, the same applies to the non smoker. Maybe you have asthma, maybe your sinuses kick in or you just can't tolerate the frickin stink of it period. You have every right as I do to enter at will or not. Taking it one step further before I call it quits, I now ask you this, what about the owner of the said establishment. What about their rights. Do you want someone else to dictate whether you or your guests can or cannot parade around butt naked on a hot, muggy, august night or during a brutally cold January spell for that matter. Wouldn't you prefer that choice to be yours. After all, least we forget, you are the one paying for the taxes.
