I am attending Baker College. I will blog about my experiences class and student life. My experiences may be different from normal college students, because I am beginning school again 14 years after high school. I have four children and a husband outside of school. Follow me through my first year transition from being a stay-at-home mom, to becoming a full time college student.

1.  Thursday - end of first weekID #670100
Posted: 10-1-2009 @ 10:29 pm EDT

Today was the end of my first week of the fall quarter. I can sum it all up in one word... BORING!!! Two hours and fourty minutes of listening to a lecture of the syllabus that is in our hands is a bit too much.

This quarter I have four classes for a total of 14 credits. Monday and Wednesday I have World Geography I. Tuesday and Thursday I have Comp II, Windows XP, and Intermediate Algebra.

As I have said before, I have four children. On tuesdays and thursdays My oldest, who is almost 15, watches the middle two. My youngest started pre-school this last September and needs a ride to school and back. I found a day care that provides transportation, but it is $3 an hour. At the end of the week, that's a lot of money. This week it cost $50. The financial break down of each day is as follows...

Each class cost 780.00 except Windows XP only cost $390 because it is only 2 credits. That makes Monday and Wednesday's class $780 and Tuesday and Thursday's classes $1950. There are a total of 10 classes for Windows XP and 20 classes for the others. That makes each class cost $39. So, Monday and Wednesday cost $39 each and Tuesday and Thursday cost $117 for the first ten weeks and $78 for the second ten weeks.

Day care will vary every week, but lets assume it will $50. The break down of day care is $3 on each Monday and Wednesday, $22 each Tuesday and Thursday. Even though Windows is only 10 classes, this will not change the cost of day care because of the span in class hours. (I will take the extra time at school to work on homework, essays, and research papers.)

This brings the total cost of Monday and Wednesday to $42 each. The first ten weeks of Tuesday and Thursday $139 each and the second ten weeks $100 each. This week, and the next ten weeks, cost me $42+$42+$139+$139= $362. The last ten weeks will cost $42+$42+$100+$100= $284.

This does not include the cost of my books $310.27, food $100 (total est.), gas $38.50/wk., or other needed supplies ($50 est).

This makes the total cost of this quarter (362x5)+(284x5)+310.27+100+(38.5x10)+20= $4045.27

I suddenly feel a pain in my wallet! Scholarship anyone?
