I am attending Baker College. I will blog about my experiences class and student life. My experiences may be different from normal college students, because I am beginning school again 14 years after high school. I have four children and a husband outside of school. Follow me through my first year transition from being a stay-at-home mom, to becoming a full time college student.

I've spent the last week studying for my geography test today. My children are upset that I spet the weekend studying instead of playing with them. I'm done. It's over. My brain hurts.

Traffic on campus is still psychotic. People are leaving class ten minutes early just so they can try to get out of the parking lot before the psychos get out of class. Some people have tried coming in the exit and have nearly caused head on collisions. People can be just plain dumb. There is no need to drive reckless just to get into a parking spot, or out of a parking lot for that matter. The more considerate people are, the less stressful it is getting in and out. People have to stop thinking, "Me, me, me, me, me," because everyone is just as annoyed sitting in a line of fifty cars because the person at the front is too afraid to pull out on the street. Likewise, everyone is just as annoyed waiting behind fifty cars on the road just to get to school in the first place. I can understand the rush. I hate sitting there knowing I'm paying three dollers an hour to sit there in a traffic jam. Acting like an idiot at this point will only make everyone in the other fourty-nine cars call you an idiot. (To put it nicely). .

I've had two tests this week in Windows. The beginning of the book is quite easy, so I got a hundred on both tests. I'm sure it will get harder as I go through the book.
I nearly told off the girl sitting next to me in Geography yesterday, but I managed to hold my temper. She was chatting with the girl next to her and texting on her phone. I could hardly concentrate on the Professor (Jon as he prefers to be called) because of her stupid nails hitting the kids at a hundred miles an minute. Honestly, it's not high school! A person has to be stupid to pay all that money to sit in class and text. What a waste of a day! Not to mention it is distracting to all around, and also to the teacher. Lets hope she doesn't pull out the phone on Monday or I'll be writing that I've been a bit naughty. LOL!
Comp II is going fine. My professor is taking the first essay slow. That is good news when I have four essays due by the end of the month in other classes. I dont' mind at all.
Math, ARG!!! The professor drives me insane! He spends the majority of the class going over the homework from the previous class, and only a few minutes going over the new material. Of course he doesn't cover it all and has to finish covering it after class is already over. An hour and fourty minutes of hearing the problems explained that I had done, and gotten correct, is a bit too much. He's not bad when he actually get to his job, but he needs to spend more time explaining BEFORE the assignment so he doesn't have to spend so much time after. Half the people have already transfered out of his class to another class. That should say something in itself.
Parking... Now there is a completely different matter. There is construction on our college building that is taking away parking. There is construction on the road next to the college building that is taking away all but one exit. There are a thousand more students in the school than there were last quarter. Security has no idea how to direct traffic which makes getting out of the lot that much more difficult. The parking lot is NUTS!!!
This is the end of my second week. I'm surviving just fine so far with four classes, but I'm tired. I'm looking forward to sleeping in Saturday. Kids sleep in PLEASE!!!!

This is my first weekend of the second quarter of my freshman year. After my volunteer time at my children's elementary school, I spent the entire rest of the day working on maps of Europe, Canada, and America. I finally finished just before midnight, and decided I needed to redo the Europe map because it was too sloppy. I went to staples and spent $13.24 on clear lables, which he said was permitted, so it will look neater.
After going to the store today, I took my homework and my four children to a school district, that is not thier own, so my son can sell candy bars. I attempted to work on my note card for geography, but I only was able to get four done because: my youngest daughter kept kicking the seat of my oldest, my son had to let come to the van between each house to let me know how many he sold, and my youngest two daughter decided they both wanted to talk to me at the same time which just created a shouting match. I now have a head ache.
Here I am now cooking dinner, readying the house for my daughter's birthday party tonight, playing mediator, and trying to slip in a few minutes to get a few problems done in math and a few note cards for geography.
I'm going to scare away anyone thinking about going back to school aren't I?

Today was the end of my first week of the fall quarter. I can sum it all up in one word... BORING!!! Two hours and fourty minutes of listening to a lecture of the syllabus that is in our hands is a bit too much.
This quarter I have four classes for a total of 14 credits. Monday and Wednesday I have World Geography I. Tuesday and Thursday I have Comp II, Windows XP, and Intermediate Algebra.
As I have said before, I have four children. On tuesdays and thursdays My oldest, who is almost 15, watches the middle two. My youngest started pre-school this last September and needs a ride to school and back. I found a day care that provides transportation, but it is $3 an hour. At the end of the week, that's a lot of money. This week it cost $50. The financial break down of each day is as follows...
Each class cost 780.00 except Windows XP only cost $390 because it is only 2 credits. That makes Monday and Wednesday's class $780 and Tuesday and Thursday's classes $1950. There are a total of 10 classes for Windows XP and 20 classes for the others. That makes each class cost $39. So, Monday and Wednesday cost $39 each and Tuesday and Thursday cost $117 for the first ten weeks and $78 for the second ten weeks.
Day care will vary every week, but lets assume it will $50. The break down of day care is $3 on each Monday and Wednesday, $22 each Tuesday and Thursday. Even though Windows is only 10 classes, this will not change the cost of day care because of the span in class hours. (I will take the extra time at school to work on homework, essays, and research papers.)
This brings the total cost of Monday and Wednesday to $42 each. The first ten weeks of Tuesday and Thursday $139 each and the second ten weeks $100 each. This week, and the next ten weeks, cost me $42+$42+$139+$139= $362. The last ten weeks will cost $42+$42+$100+$100= $284.
This does not include the cost of my books $310.27, food $100 (total est.), gas $38.50/wk., or other needed supplies ($50 est).
This makes the total cost of this quarter (362x5)+(284x5)+310.27+100+(38.5x10)+20= $4045.27
I suddenly feel a pain in my wallet! Scholarship anyone?
