Is it just me?

My name is Paul Duenas. At one time I wanted to be a writer. Now that I'm staring at the mirror of middle age, I've decided to try this again. This is a personal blog, journal, diary... whatever it is and can be to express my opinions, frustration, rage, curiosity, etc. I've titled it "Is it just me?" which refers to sometimes you have an opinon about something, while the world around you seems to think otherwise... an exercise really at finding common ground amongst my fellow writers. And this blog hopefully will cover any and all subjects. Enjoy!

Everywhere I look - entertainment websites, news websites, newspapers, magazines, tabloids ... there is this constant barrage of information on Jon & Kate (plus 8 - to be accurate). Are they breaking up?? Are they staying together?? What about the kids?? Hey - she's at the beach, wearing a different swimsuit every day!
There's just TOO MUCH exposure about them.

Now - I haven't seen the show. I don't have any desire to see the show. It's just not my cup of tea. But, is it just me, or is there just way too much attention being given to them ... nothing against THEM, mind you... they may be publicity seekers, but it's the MEDIA that has created this maelstrom of coverage.

I mean - what the hell??? There's as much information about them, being treated as news, as there is surrounding the events in Iran?!! (oh, I know I'm exaggerating) ... but still!
Yes, I understand news outlets have to compete these days, and our celebrity obsessed culture here in America really feeds the news outlets need to attract an audience.
In fact, they are just a part of a larger issue I have with too much attention in the mainstream media being paid to entertainment news. But since I'm a big entertainment fan, I don't want to sound too much like a hypocrite.
I'd really rather see an interesting article (with PHOTOS) of Padme Lakshmi, than Jon and Kate (plus 8).

Yes... it's a mindless thing to begin a blog with. But you try navigating through CNN, or CNBC, or MSNBC, or your local paper's website... without seeing the OTHER NEWS list of stories, littered with celebrity news.

And what is it with our nation's obsession with families that number into the double digits??
Is it just a curiosity??? And do we follow them in reverence or disgust???

Greetings -

That's right.... ANOTHER blog. As if the internet weren't already full of them. But as the saying goes, opinions are like (&$*##($) - everyone's got one.

What I've decided to do, at least with this particular space, is to run the gamit of topics... most times with the idea of 'Is it just me?' going through my head.

Everyday, everyone experiences something that happens, and this occurrance is beyond what a normal person believes should occur, or happen. Politics... life ... relationships... movies .... entertainment ... music.... religion ... just about everything will be fair game for me. Maybe it's going to be something that's touched my nerve that day... that hour ... that moment. But I will try to do it in such a way that most times, won't offend anyone, but instead will encourage them to think, respond, act... I will try to prompt something... anything.
I will try to do this with humor most times... because sometimes things are so outrageous, you have to laugh - either at yourself, or the event.

I hope you will enjoy it.
