This is an on-going tale, originally created as an incentive to write daily as part of the 500 Words Per Day Group. It is no longer affiliated with the group, having been replaced (kinda) by my daily blog. This is now a "stand-alone" item. It is a (or at least it is supposed to be) comical satire based upon the original sci-fi tv series, "Star Trek."
(Note: If you're a regular reader of "Word Trek" then you can skip all of this do-do and go directly to just below the asterisk line (an asterisk line looks like this: *******), and go and pick up the current episode from there).
These are the voyages of the Star ship Seldomfies...a blatant rip-off, er, I mean take-off based on the original television series, "Star Trek." Its 500 word mission: To do just that - to come up with 500 words - not just any old words, but coherent ones, strung together to form sentences - on a daily basis, to meet the minimum standards as mandated by the 500 Words Group.. To seek out new writing forms and pretend that I'm capable of establishing levels of communication with them (with a minimum of typos). To boldly go where no writer (at least none that I know of, but I haven't really checked) has gone before...
Author's note: To new readers (I know somebody someday will stumble onto this story by accident): This story is a 'serial' in which very little "in-the-last-episode" background is given on a episode-to-episode basis. Therefore, it is advisable to read prior episodes for plot clarification (Wait...who am I kidding...you'll even get more confused)!
Also, you may notice a word highlighted in blue in the episode. This little brainstorm is a result of an activity from the "Exercise Your Writing" Group where one of the exercises was to introduce a word that you're unfamiliar with on a daily basis. The blue word is one that I found randomly in the dictionary that I didn't know about prior to seeing it but that I cleverly tossed into the story. The definition of the word is in blue at the end of the episode. So, not only do you have just tons of fun reading these episodes, but I try my darnedest to educate you a little also. Who else gives you this much horse manure at this price? Don't thank me now...unless, of course, you want to part with a couple of ten's or twenties and mail them to me, then maybe we should talk!
