Shalom! I was born outside of Haifa, moved to Tel Aviv when I was twelve, and served in the Israeli Defense Force for two years. Now, I am a student at TAU.

I hope I can show the world the humanity of my nation. We're not so different, after all.

Whoever destroys a single life is as guilty
as though he had destroyed the entire world;
and whoever rescues a single life
earns as much merit as though he had
rescued the entire world

Yesterday I went to the ceremony here in Tel Aviv to honor Yitzhak Rabin. I remember when he was killed I was eight or nine and didn't really understand. Is still interesting to me how passionate people can become. Rabin's assasin, Yigal Amir, was an Orthodox Jew who wanted, he claimed, to only save the State of Israel. He was very wrong, but passions are very strong. Is scary.

Also today there are rumors that Obama and Fatah have made a secret deal to create a Palestinian State. I think a Palestinian State is ideal, I think it is necessary, and I support it, as long as it is demilitarized. If it is not, Israel faces grave dangers and our existance will not only be threatened, it would stand a very big chance of being compromised. Netanyahu supports a two-state solution, as do most Israelis. We want peace, too.

My friend was very offended that this deal would be made in secret, and, indeed, he should be. But let us remember how Israel was created. The British government began the job (sort of), the United Nations attempted to mess it up, and then we eventually won it ourselves with help of the Americans. It was not a mutual agreement. It is hypocritical to think that the creation of a Palestinian State should have to be so open-minded, but, then, it would be better this way.

A Palestinian State, with no military or arms, if it brought Middle Eastern peace, and if it eliminated what our country has had to become, would be ideal. I would pray for this. But let us be honest, yes? A Palestinian State would not solve problems. Israel would still be under constant attack from our anti-Semitic enemies. Iran would gain a sovereign ally.

But the international community would stop accusing us of crimes against humanity, so I suppose this would be a positive.

I want the Palestinian people to have a country, to have peace, and to have what they deserve. I do not, however, want the achievement of these things to hurt a single Israeli. This, I think, is almost impossible.
