The Great Name Game

Here's how it works. I find a username or handle of a friend or acquaintance here on Writing.com (usually through scroll) and I tell the real story of how that name came to be. Sound like fun? *Laugh* It is for me, anyway!

Oh, by the way, if it so happens that you end up one of my targets, please take no offense, I'm just having fun and I like your username. If I do happen to offend you, just inform me and I'll quickly take the story down. Smile

So I peeked into scroll, to see Storm Machine had changed her handle to "Storm Machine", because she and Crys were talking about how she was getting through her NaNo prep really fast. Then Crys says, "a storm machine? hmm sounds like a science fiction idea"... cue me! My tiny, squares in my head start moving (others have wheels, I have squares), and I have a new username origin idea. Even if the handle may just be for short-term use.

Once upon a time, there was a crazy, crazy scientist. He preferred not to be called a mad scientist, because he was really quite good-natured. Anyway, the Crazy Scientist loved doing, y'know, crazy scientisty things. One day, he was like, "DUDE! I'm gonna invent my craziest invention EVER!"

And so he went to work. He really didn't know what he was creating... but he knew it was gonna be insane. And then, one day, he finished. He didn't know what it did, he didn't even know what to call it. It was a small blue rectangle (with the emblem of his hero's greatest invention, Ol' Franky, on it), and... well... it was kind of weird, but he knew it was brilliant. He tried to name it. But he kept changing the name. He just couldn't decide. Did I mention he was a little crazy? And did I mention Ol' Franky? Oh, right. Anyhow...

When the crazy scientist took it outside, it came to life! He realized it wasn't an it after all, it was a she! And she was smart, and funny... although she still had Ol' Franky tattooed to the side of her head. She didn't appreciate that too much.

So the scientist asked his invention, "What can you do?"

And she replied, "Well, Mad Scientist-"

         "CRAZY Scientist!" he interrupted, perturbed.

"Oh, right." said the invention, quickly. "Well, Crazy Scientist, just watch and see!" And with that, she made a storm come! With lightning, and thunder, and all that!

"Oh my! It's amazing!" said the crazy scientist, in awe. "The most brilliant invention of all! What shall I call her?" And he thought, and thought, and thought, and then he said, "I shall call her, Crunchy Aardvark!"

What followed was an awkward pause. Then his invention said, "You could call me Storm Machine."

"Oh..." said the Crazy Scientist. "I like that too."

The end.

Once upon a time, there were triplet sisters... They were funny, creative girls whose names were Criss, Cross, and Applesauce.

Now, growing up, they were raised to do exactly the same thing. They were all to dance and sing together, all the time, on stage, and entertain people.

At first they liked it; they liked to entertain people, and they liked having fun. But as they got older, they realized they were different from each other. They didn't always like doing the same things. Sometimes, Applesauce thought she would rather cook than dance. And sometimes Cross thought she'd rather solve complicated math problems than sing. (Cross was good at addition). But their mother hated this! "No! No!" she said. "You'll do what I've raised you to do! And make money! And get famous!"

You need to understand here that the sisters' mother loved them very much, and cared for them. But she thought that their best interests were found in singing, dancing, and making lots of money.

Criss was different from the others. She liked to write. She wrote wonderful stories, stories that made people laugh, stories that made people think, and stories that touched people's hearts. But whenever Criss, Cross, and Applesauce tried to do something else besides what their mother told them to do, she discouraged them and wouldn't let them. But Criss had a plan.

One day, she wrote a story. A most wonderful, touching story that made you laugh, made you think, and touched your heart. She decided to have it published. It was such a great story, that publishers were falling all over her to publish that excellent story. But Criss, not wanting to get caught by her mother, decided to get a pen name. At the same time, she still loved her real name so she decided, in the end, to just change the spelling of it. Her amazing story was published. And her mother read it. It touched her greedy and caring-but-misunderstanding heart, and that mother changed her ways. She still loved her daughters, but now she let them do what they wanted to do.

Applesauce became a world-famous chef, Cross because a Nobel-prize winning physicist, and about Criss, well... nobody knows much about her. But everybody loves that famous author, Crys.

The end.

Yikes! Didn't I do another story between those two *Down*? I can't remember! Can anyone else?! If I did, could you just remind me quickly who I did it for so I can get it written down? I have the worst memory... maybe I didn't and I'm just going crazy... *Rolleyes*

Once upon a time, there was a dude who had the greatest eyes in the world. He was so observant, people just couldn't believe it. But this dude, named Andrew, loved to write. He would write and write and write and write. And when he was really getting into his writing, sometimes he just wasn't observant. But boy, did he just love to write.

Now, Andrew also loved to award people. He liked it when people, who worked hard, earned things for their hard work. So he started the Quill Awards!

There was also a guy who loved to write. But the problem with this guy... is, well... he was really bad at writing. But he thought he was good... I mean, he thought he rocked so hard at it he was the greatest ever. So he tried to get himself a Quill Award... but naturally, because his writing was really bad, he lost. He was angry. Very, very angry! "It's all Andrew's fault!" he thought to himself, for no apparent reason. He decided he was going to do something about it. By the way, this guy liked archery.

One day, Andrew was out in the middle of nowhere, writing. He loved to write, like I said, and he was really getting into it. Unfortunately, the bad writer guy I just mentioned decided this was a great opportunity for some payback. He sneaked near where Andrew was, and carefully got his weapon of choice ready...

Before anything could happen, a random dude yelled, "ANDREW! See the bow man?!" and saved his life.

The end.

Once upon a time, there was a strange and evil cat. Very evil. You see, this strange cat was born without a heart! Now the cat really wanted a heart, but he didn't know what to do about it. But one day, he had an idea.

There was another cat around and he had been born with three hearts! Way too many, in our strange and evil cat's opinion. And so, the evil cat one day went and found the cat with three hearts. And the evil cat did a little operation (and gosh, did playing that board game over and over for hours help out!). He took out the other cat's two extra hearts... and ate them.

Naturally, eating two hearts isn't the same as actually having a heart, so we must change something... perhaps the spelling of heart, to help us all remember the difference? But in any case, it was better than nothing, and so our evil cat was proud of himself. He finally had hartes, 02 of them!

The end.
