Welcome to a sporadic journal of my financial explots, successes, and failures. Follow along as I journey through one of lifes most interesting and challenging shifts, from a guy who can't stop spending to a young man who is financially responsbile. Maybe you'll see something similar to your own life, maybe you'll find a lesson or trick you can apply. Maybe you have some suggestions for me to deal with my own bad fiscal habits. Let's make this journey together, and pray there are more laughs than tears.
You're not an idiot, but I hate to think about the state of your file box.
Save forever:
Titles, deeds, birth records, passports, social security cards
Save for 7 years:
Copies of your tax returns and any attachments (reciepts, etc.)
Save for 1 year:
Other reciepts, paid bills, credit card statements
You should shred (or burn, if you have a woodstove) documents that you no longer need to keep. If you're really paranoid, you could always scan things and keep them on a flash drive. :)
