'Hafencenta' is a semi-autobiographical first novel which deals with my experiences as an ex-pat living in Germany.
Ben has been in Hamburg for several years. He's a senior teacher at one of the city's better language schools, and the community there has become like a family to him, although it's a pretty dysfunctional one.
Ben experiences are defined by his fascination with the Second World War, which he can't explain, and an addiction to sex, which he wouldn't admit to.
His life begins to change when his unofficial girlfriend, Jess, decides to leave for Korea. The end of this relationship catapults Ben into a dramatic new experience of life in Germany and a confrontation with himself that he was really not expecting...
