The year 7203 of the Fourth Age. The days of the High Kings of Ava are long gone, little more than a memory. The descendants of Faeros, a mortal god, have gone their own way and forged their own nations in the absence of a High King to unite them. With the direct descendants of Faeros gone, the remaining Houses grow bolder by the day and ever more hostile. None have claimed the throne of Ava yet, but it is only a matter of time before a claimant steps forth.

In a world of kingdoms that don't want to be united, such a claim will bring about an all-out war. Into this world Lady Eirene is born, a young duchess whose noble lineage is second only to that of the Prince of Bóreal, the heir presumptive to the throne of Ava, and there are many who believe her lineage is greater. When her father decides it is time for her to marry he takes her to the Kingdom of Deimin, where civil war is already stirring.

The princes of Deimin each have their own reasons for seeking Eirene's hand in marriage, and they will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. The fires of war are fuelled, and the surrounding nations are slowly but surely getting drawn into the conflict. Eirene's choices will determine the fate of the people as the storm approaches. From the north the Prince of Bóreal watches and waits, and all of Ava holds its breath...
