I always found Alfred Noble's story so touching. He really was a great man with a strong conscience. I didn't know that his brother died in an explosion, it makes more sense why he took it so personally to level out the damage his invention was used for.

All of that is true about his regret that his inventions were used for violence instead of peace. He really did start out just trying to make explosives safer to handle and transport. Like most great inventions, they have the possibility to be used for evil and good.

He was a great inventor, though. Dynamite was only his most famous (and ironic) invention. His brother really did die in one of several factory explosions, all of which impacted his drive to make explosives safer.

If I sound like an eighth grader presenting my research paper, err... well, let's just say my son and I took our sleeping bags to the library last year. Good thing I saved that paper on my hard drive. (((Ssshhhh! Don't tell Kiya. She thinks I stayed up all night and missed work today to write this factual story.)))

Great story, I recently heard about this man. Alfred Nobel, inventor of explosives, whom the Nobel Peace Prize is named after. The concept seemed a little absurd to me, but this gives me a different slant, a different perspective. Thanks.
