I waited for 5 minutes - maybe longer. I didn't know if I'd be brave enough to turn around. I heard another snap - this one closer. I bundled all of my courage and cocked my head out from behind the tree. Joanne was gone. I blew out the breath that I hadn't realized I had been holding in. I heard another snap - this one extremely close. I felt that I was being watched. I stepped out from the tree's cover and looked around. I looked at the ground.
It sort of startled me at first, and then it terrified me...
