A Country Vet's Journal
This is fiction, however much of it is true.

January 29--I thought I would keep a journal when I was young. I wanted to record all the fantastic things that happened to me. Here I am now at 65 just getting around to looking at it.          When I was 18 I went off to college and studied very hard and felt very dumb. I'm not sure why I wanted to be a vet. At the time I thought it would be economically beneficial, and I thought it would be easier than being a "real" doctor. Maybe it was my father who thought that. At least it would be cheaper--less years in college.
He wasn't too keen on any of it. His daughter should be more conventional. He had in mind a gracious job as a designer or a bookkeeper in a well appointed office. He did not envision that I should crawl around in a cattle chute in the middle of the night trying to deliver a calf. Such is life!
