Tessa Corbett, age 30, is the last person anyone would ever have expected to take care of a sick and dying family member--but she volunteers to return to the small town she grew up in in order to take care of her ailing grandmother. She recently ended a failed romance, and she feels like a failure. She was also on a course of self-destructive behavior, eating too much and drowning in debt.
As she comes to terms with her grandmother's impending death, she realizes how important family is and she is able to reconcile with her own mother.
In addition, she meets a man, who at first glance isn't her "type," but she pushes aside her insecurities and fears of intimate relationships and finds a love that she never thought possible.
