I just watched the repeat airing of the case of these two poor young girls tonight on Haunting Evidence on the Court Channel and put their names in to see if I could find out if they had found the sick person that did this horrific crime and this came up on my search. I read your post and was wondering if anything further happened with your tip? I hope that they are able to someday find the animal that did this to give those poor girl's parents some peace.

I can only echo everyone else's sentiments. My Grandfather died in a nursing home, after being there several months. My Grandmother did everything - took his laundry home because they did such a poor job of it, fed him, sat with him from the crack of dawn until late night, sleeping only a few hours at home before she returned to him. She was constantly complaining about his care.

So I can see the two extremes - the neglect of the nursing home and the overwhelming work involved in the care of someone in this position.

Like everyone else has said, there has to be a middle ground, somewhere, someway.

And yes, the kid should be pitching in.

AJ is right you are giving him top-notch care that he would never see in a nursing home. They wouldn't let him use the restroom and would leave him in his mess most of the day and night. Remember to take care of yourself too though. It isn't unreasonable to expect the kids to pitch in.

Of course, I can't imagine anyone who would give him the kind of care you're giving him--he certainly wasn't receiving it before you came along. Perhaps, other family and friends could be "on call" for those things that it doesn't take you to do, at least part of the time.

You're doing the work of three shifts of nurses 24/7, so it comes out to getting paid a fraction over $1.10 per hour.

Even in a nursing home situation, patients don't get the kind of up-close-and-personal care around the clock from a full-time nurse and a visiting nurse, and they make at least minimum wage.

Anyway, you're definitely no failure at home health care--you're actually much more successful at doing the work of a minimum of three people than most people would be.

Something--I'm not sure what--has to be worked out.

Show what I've written to Effie and your mom, and see if the three of you can come up with something more doable.

You could still be Walter's primary caretaker.

You are going way beyond what you are being compensated to do. There are entities which provide home care 24/7 but the cost is by the hour not a salary weekly. You have 2 choices, either continue the current path or make the schedule clear. This isn't what you agreed to when you agreed to compensation.

I still can't imagine that insurance won't pay for more care. But ... if he wants to stay at home (I would!) it sounds like he'll need more than just you. You do need to sleep or you won't be able to function and there are others dependent on you.
