3.keep it along the story line only one or two crazy twists
Personality: She usually a very outgoing and happy person. Is very resourceful and can almost see a use in anything.
Apperance: Short, only 4'6. Long black hair that has light aburn hightlights. Usually wears it in a ponytail. Sticks to mostly pale colors but will wear bright colors once in a while. Deep brown eyes that shine in the light.

Hopes and dreams:1)Get off this island,2)Finish High School,3) move as far away from the coast as possible.
other: Lives with her grandmom and three sisters. Her parents disappeared when she was four.
Personality: He’s a guy that likes to keep his secrets, quiet at times but overall a pretty outgoing kid. Nicolas is usually calm, cool, and collected and he is extremely street smart. He doesn’t really like fighting; he’s more of the moderator type, and hates conflict. He’s pretty sweet too and knows the right things to say and when.
Appearance: He looks younger than he really is. He has bright green eyes and dark brown hair with natural dark reddish highlights and his hair is on the shorter side. He’s about 5’10 and pretty skinny but muscular, he can definitely take care of himself.
Hobbies: He likes to run a lot and play sports and do cross country. He also likes just hanging out with friends and likes to build things and create sketches of buildings and other such structures.
Hopes and dreams: When he grows up, Nicolas wants to be an architect, or at least that’s what he thinks now. Obviously he doesn’t want to stay on the island forever. He’d like to go to state for cross country before he graduates and also wishes to find his real parents and why they gave him up or what happened to them.
Other: Nicolas has a younger brother who is 15 and both he and his brother are adopted. They have been passed from foster home to foster home before they finally settled in with the Coopers and they officially adopted Nicolas as well as his brother. Nicolas feels very responsible for his younger brother.

Appearance: About 5' 9.5". He has brown/blond hair that he keeps spiked. Has blue/gray hazel that changes colors. Is sporting a faint, blonde goatee.
Hobbies: Before being deserted on the island, he was the lead singer of a school rock group. He also has a lot of stories and songs he has been working on.
Hopes and dreams: To get off the island, duh. To get his rock and roll group famous somehow.
Other: Has a crush on one of the female castaways( but not telling who it is just yet. Will be a while.)
Personality: Layla is hard pressed to talk. She is a very shy, wispy sort of thing, who likes to keep her thoughts to herself-even though her thoughts are very passionate and opinionated. She always bites her lower lip when she is thinking hard about something (which is almost always), and she hovers behind her friends for the support she needs. She has some very close friends, but she is much too quiet to have tons of friends. Layla's voice is very quiet and serene-almost musical.
Apperance: Layla is a very small person, very wispy with long flowing brown hair that comes down to her waist. It is a bit wavy, but all of it is her natural brown color. She has chocolate brown eyes that seem almost black and bronze skin. Her teeth are sparkling white and her lips are full and pouting.
Hobbies: Layla's biggest hobby before getting deserted was walking. She used to walk all over the town and through the woods and along the coast-trying to find places to be alone and think, and explore new places. She also loved to read and listen to soft music. She used to play the flute but gave it up when someone in the band called her a bad name.
Hopes and dreams: Layla never knew what her true passion was. Although she liked doing certain things, she never found the one true thing she could do for the rest of her life. Her nearest dream was to go deeper into the woods than she had ever gone before. But now, she has a whole new place to explore-the island!
Other: Layla blushes whenever she likes someone. (*hint hint*) She is also the only child of two of the richest people in her hometown. Before she got deserted, she lived in a huge mansion that had its own gardens and orchards, docks and boats. Now, she has to adapt to a whole new life.
Glam-BACK The sun was shining and it was perfect weather for sailing. Olivia's grandma had sent her on this cruise to get away, take some time off.
"Yeah right, the real reason she wants me gone is to have fun with the little kiddies and take them places. She can never do that when I'm around." Thought Olivia to herself.
This cruise was supposed to be wonderful, feel the breeze in your hair that type of thing. At least that's what it said in the brochure.
To tell you the truth I'm not having that great of a time. There's really nothing to do, although my hopes did rise a little when I saw I wouldn't have to be rooming alone. That was until I found out she was shy and didn't talk to anyone.
So that brings me here, leaning over the side of the railing wondering if I'd ever do anything fun around here.
***************
The sky became a deep grayish blue, dark clouds covering the once pale blue sky. The sound of thunder could be heard rumbling in the distance.
"What the-" My question was muffled by someone thrusting me down the steps down below deck. Once recovering from that rude awakining I relized I wasn't the only on down here.
"Anyone here know what's going on?" I said to no one in particular.
"I think there's a flash flood warning or something" said a boy with dark brown hair and bright green eyes.
The next thing I knew we were being tossed around like a sack of potatoes.
"OWW!" I yelped as I hit my head against something hard.
"Sorry" came a small voice.
A few minutes later the bottom deck begins filling up with water.
"I think we should get out of here" I say and start walking over to the door.
"No" Someone pulled me back and stopped me from advancing. "It's much worse out there than it is in here.
"Suit yourself you can all stay down here and drown for all I care" I say heading back to the door once more.
No sooner had I reached the upper deck do I see people folowing behind me. I didn't get a chance to see how many because a huge wave came over the side of the boat and I slipped.
Within a matter of moments the whole boat was in a frenzy, people runnnin around like chickens with their heads cut off.
I don't remember anything else because I slipped again and everything went black.
****************
My lungs ached, I couldn't breathe. I tried to gulp in air but all i got was a mouthful of salty sea water.
Well I do remember a little bit. I was swimming, and swimming hoping I'd reach land. I think it'd been maybe an hour and I just couldn't go anymore.
I assumed that I was thrown over board during the last of the storm because now it was calm as could be.
"Maybe just a little farther" I told myself. I didn't have to go much farther. i dragged my sore limbs onto the shore and passed out.
Agent-409 Nicolas just needed to get away. He didn’t quite understand why- his life was finally good for once, and all the pieces seemed to be falling into place; he was making new friends, he loved the Coopers and he and his brother Jake were finally starting to be happy. But still, there was something Nicolas just couldn’t understand, something that wasn’t right and something that was missing.
He had gone on this trip, to be by himself for awhile and try and figure out just what was wrong. The Coopers sent him on the cruise; they figured it was safe enough for him to be alone and fun enough that maybe he would find what he was looking for.
When the storm came, Nicolas wasn’t even that aware. He had been below deck even when the sun was out, it was quieter there and he found that he liked the cool air and the darkness that met him.
He was surprised when a girl, about his age, came stumbling down the steps. He mumbled a few sentences in her direction, not really sure himself what was going on, except that something was wrong.
It was then Nicolas realized the water beginning to fill in around his ankles, and the girl left up the stairs. The strangest feeling came over Nicolas; it was as if he didn’t much care if he lived or if he died. He was calm, knowing that whatever happened would happen and there wouldn’t be too much he could do about that. He put his backpack onto his back and tightened the straps, figuring- if he lived- he might want it with him.
The rest of the details were blurry and the next thing Nicolas knew, he was on a beach, backpack still in tow. His head hurt a little bit, but he wasn’t bleeding and he seemed to be okay- All the better… he thought to himself. He looked around- nothing special, it was a beach and there was the ocean, it seemed like a nice enough place to be, quiet- time to think. The thought that he might be stranded on an island for who knows how long did not even cross his mind.
Nicolas looked to the left, across the beach, he noticed someone else. It looked like a boy, about his age, about his height, with spiky hair. Nicolas didn’t know what the other boy was doing, but he figured it wasn’t really his business, and besides- if they were the only people on this island- he would know soon enough.
Then he looked to the right, and saw a girl lying in the sand. He noticed it was the same girl who had stumbled down the stairs earlier- earlier? When was earlier? This morning? Yesterday? A week ago? Nicolas didn’t know and he had no way of telling, but he figured it didn't much matter. He wondered if she was dead. Then he wondered whether or not he should help her if she wasn’t.
He walked over, and saw that she was still breathing, but her eyes were closed.
“Hey.” He said, tapping her lightly, “Are you okay? Can you hear me?” He poked her a little and that made her wake up. She coughed out some water and sat up, looking right at Nicolas.
“Hi,” He said again, “So I guess you’re not dead.” He smiled, trying to be friendly.
“Guess not.” She said returning his smile.
“I’m Nicolas,” he said, holding out his hand for her to take.
“Olivia.” She said as he helped her to her feet. “What happened?” She asked.
“I have no idea.” Nicolas replied honestly.
“So… you think there’s anyone else here?” She seemed to be wondering more to herself than to Nicolas, but he answered anyway.
“Well… there’s him.” He said, pointing down the beach.
Jason Simmons Alex stood with his feet placed firmly on the sand. What happened? he thought. He looked around the beach. He saw two of his shipmates, one boy and one girl, talking to each other. He knew he would eventually have to talk to them, considering the situation, but that could wait a few minutes.
He sat down, and tried to recall what happened before they got stranded. What was he doing on the ship before the storm? What happened to everyone else? These questions poured through his head, and he quickly cast them aside, knowing it would do no good to ponder.
He looked in the opposite direction from where the other two were. He froze as he saw a shape of another person lying still in the sand. He got to his feet and began running to it.
"Over here, I've found someone," he shouted to the other two. They got up and ran to where Alex was, hunched over the body of a beautiful girl around his age, maybe a year or two younger.
"Is she alright?" the girl said, looking worried. Alex put that memory in a safe place in his mind. She was a good person who cared for others. She could definetly help the group out.
"She's breathing, but she likes likes she might suffer from hypothermia if we don't get her dry," Alex replied.
"You," he said pointing to the boy."What's your name?"
"Nicolas," he replied." And this is Olivia."
"Ok, Nicolas. I need you to gather a few branches and twigs so we can start a fire. Olivia, I need you to gather food like berries or other fruits you can find. We need to get her warm and fed, or not only will she suffer hypothermia, she may go into shock."
Nicolas and Olivia quickly did what Alex asked, he seemed to know what he was talking about. Soon they had a fire going.
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! Layla didn't want to open her eyes.
She had been dreaming about exploring a huge, clear lake; her brown hair flowing behind her as she swam underwater, looking at orange flowers and big, shiny fish that swam by. She had been dreaming that the warmth of the sun was hitting her, and that she seemed to have no problem breathing as she swam deeper and deeper, trying to find the most hidden treasure within the lake.
But now, all Layla could feel was a soft throbbing in her temple, and her wet clothing sticking to her. She could taste salt on her tongue, and smelle the rusty smell of sand all around her. Her back was stiff and aching, and her cheeks felt burnt and raw.
I have to come back to reality, she told herself as she slowly opened her eyes. It took her awhile to focus. It was beginning to get dark outside-early evening, and she had been lain on the sand, with a jacket thrown over her. A fire was crackling roughly in the middle of a circle, that seemed to be surrounded by people. Actually--only three people.
Layla tried to sit up to fast, but felt her heavy head throb harder as a result.
"Look who's finally up and okay!" a girl, who Layla recognized as her roomate on the ship. "You were out forever!"
Layla didn't respond, but looked around with her big, chocolate eyes.
"Are you okay?" a boy asked, quietly. It was an older boy with spiked har. He seemed confused. Was this girl deaf or mute?
"Oh, she doesn't talk," the girl responded, giggling.
Layla became indignant. "I most certainly do!" Her head throbbed more, and she lay it back down on the sand. "I...I just...don't know any of you."
The other boy, the less scruffy one, let out a chuckle. "I'm Nicolas," he said, unconciously making patterns in the sand with his bare foot. "That over there is Alex, and you've met Olivia."
Layla was thinking hard, biting her lower lip. She knew what had happened to the ship. She had known when she first felt water seeping through her shoes. She had closed her eyes, and calmly let the ocean take her.
"Are you okay?" Alex was looking at Layla strangely, as if he thought she were crazy.
Once again, Layla didn't respond, but instead answered with her own question. It was barely audible of the crackling of the fire.
"Are we trapped?" she said softly.
The three others looked at each other, and nodded.
"But we can make it!" Olivia said cheerfully. "I mean, we've already found a fresh water source, that's something isn't it?"
Layla smiled inwardly. She liked this eclectic group. She liked the enthusiasm of Olivia, especially. They might become good friends.
"Well," Layla said again quietly. She saw three heads lean closer towards her side in order to hear her better. "Maybe we should find food and shelter next..."
The boys smiled, and Olivia clapped her hands together. "Great idea, let's get cracking!"
But when Layla tried to lift her haid again, she cried out in pain. She thought she might have a slight concussion.
"Maybe you should stay here," the three all chorused.
Layla didn't put her head back down, but leaned towrads the fire.
She waited until the three were gone, shed the jacket off her back, and started walking down the beach-looking for a sign from nature that something good might happen.
Glam-BACK Nicolas, Olivia, and Olivia were all standing in a circle trying to work out a plan.
"One time in Science class I learned that you have 3 min. without oxygen, 3 hours without proper shelter, and 3 days without food and water, or something like that." Olivia stated quite seriously.
"So are you saying that we should set up a shelter first?" questioned Alex.
"Yes, I suppose I am." replied olivia.
With that the three of them went of in search of some sturdy logs and other materials. This was going to be a long night.
Agent-409 It wasn’t too long before they were all back in the camp area with all the supplies they could find.
“Now what?” Olivia asked.
“We build.” Alex said matter-of-factly.
“Well… we should plan first.” Nicolas chimed in. “I mean, you can’t just start from nothing without having a picture of what you want the end to look like.” He knew this kind of stuff, it was just his thing- building and planning and drawing sketches.
“Right.” Alex said. Nicolas hoped he wasn’t angry for what he had said, he didn’t want to be Alex’s enemy but it wasn’t just as simple as building, they needed a plan.
“So what do you have in mind?” Layla said as she came around to stand by the group.
“Feeling better?” Olivia asked kindly. Layla nodded her head a little bit. Nicolas thought she was probably feeling just as bad but probably wanted to feel at least somewhat useful. “Good,” Olivia smiled at her.
Nicolas caught Layla’s eye for a second but quickly diverted his glance with a small smile.
“Right then…” he continued, “So this is what I kind of have in mind.” He said as he began sketching out a rough drawing of what their shelter might look like in the sand with the stick he had in his hand. He was kind of explaining things as he went along if anyone cared to listen. When he was done, he stood up. “Well…”
“It’s good.” Olivia said.
“You think maybe we should add in a wall over here?” Alex was asking as he pointed to a place on the sand sketch.
“Yeah sure,” Nicolas said, “If you guys want it there.”
“You think we have enough supplies for this?” Layla asked.
Nicolas looked over all the wood and branches they had brought back. “Should be okay.”
They worked through the night, and by morning their shelter stood. It had palm branches on the top that would prove to be semi waterproof if it ever rained and there were three walls and a half wall on the fourth side. It was big enough for four people which was all they needed, and it was simple.
When the dawn broke over the ocean, the four made the motions to settle in for some sleep.
“Might as well.” Alex had said, “It’s not like there is much else to do, so if you’re tired- sleep.” It was a good point.
Nicolas wasn’t tired though, so as everyone closed their eyes, he walked off to sit in the early morning light and watch the sun rise over the ocean.
Jason Simmons Alex wasn't tired, either, but pretended to sleep 'til he knew Nicolas wasn't paying attention. He then got up and made his way through the woods, hoping to help in any other way possible.
He hadn't told the others that he had made hunting weapons for when they would need meat, but he used them for more than hunting. They were deadly weapons, and there may be deadly predators on the island. So Alex went to scout.
He had made his way about a mile inland when he started to feel all of the work he had been doing and felt exausted. He sat down to rest. No sooner had he started to feel secure, than a small lynx walked into the clearing. It bared it's teeth and charged at Alex.
*********************************
Back at the shelter, the girls awoke.
"Where's Alex?" Olivia asked. Nicolas looked at her stunned. Alex had snuck away when Nicolas wasn't paying attention. He wondered where he could have gone.
No sooner had the thought crossed his mind, when Alex came walking back to camp, carrying a dead lynx on his shoulders.
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! "There are lynx around here?" Olivia said, acting skeptical, even though the animal was in front of her.
"We must be terribly far from home," Layla said softly, in a moment of awe. She had not completely taken in the fact that they were stranded-maybe forever.
"Don't worry," Nicolas said with a consoling air, "I'm sure someone will find...."
Olivia gave him a look.
"Okay, okay," he relented, holding up his hands, "But still, it's good to have some hope, right?"
Alex was still holding the lynx, and looking around for something sharp. Layla went over to look at the animal-putting her hand out to touch its still warm body.
"What are we going to do with it?" she whispered, looking at the creatures glazed eyes.
"Eat it," Alex said, not taking his eyes of the ground.
Layla looked around at the others, as if trying to get rid of her shock. They only shrugged their shoulders.
Glam-BACK olivia was very wary about eating the linx. She was used to normal food like chicken and beef, not cat.
"How are we going to skin it and clean it?" I asked uncertainly.
"With a rock and some water" replied Alex as if this was common knowledge.
"Well no offense to anyone here, but this kind of stuff grosses me out, so I'll go wait over there." I said.
***************
I was not in the best of moods at dinner because it had just dawned on me that in four days we were supposed to reach our destination where my grandmother was going to pick me up. Then this weekend was prom.
"What's wrong with you, you're not your usually perky self?" said Nicholas taking a bite of the linx meat.
"I'm just bummed because I won't get to go to prom. Tell you the truth I'm not really hungry.
With that I walked over and sat down in our shelter.
Agent-409 Nicolas ate quietly, trying not to think about what it was he was eating. He was hungry and he knew he had to eat something or else he would starve die, but he realized he might die anyways.
Everyone was pretty quiet, but the day was just starting out. He wondered why everyone seemed to keep to themselves so much and if he should make an attempt to bring them closer as a group. Nicolas was the kind of person who liked to be the mediator, make sure everyone was cool and that conflicts were settled if they arose. But of course, he couldn’t stop all conflicts and couldn’t settle them all either.
“Maybe some other day.” Nicolas thought to himself, not really wanting to start something today.
He saw Olivia sitting alone under the shelter, and Layla not far from that, Alex was over near the fire, messing with the logs and such. Nicolas didn’t feel much like sitting anymore. He was a runner, but he didn’t feel much like running, not right now.
“I’m just… going to go walk around for a bit.” He announced as he got up. Layla’s head turned but Olivia and Alex just kind of nodded.
“Would you… would you like some company?” Layla spoke up in a sort of shy manner.
“Um…” Nicolas thought about it, “Sure.” He said, not wanting to hurt her feelings and deep down really wanting someone else to talk to. “We’ll be back later.” Nicolas said as he and Layla walked out of the camp area.
“Don’t do anything stupid or get killed.” Alex only half way joked.
Jason Simmons Now, Alex and Olivia were at the campsite alone. Alex tried not to look at her, though she was beautiful. Layla was beautiful, too, and it was hard not to look at her. But Layla had gone walking with Nicolas. And Alex was always a loner, so he was content to sit by the fire, staring at it.
But after a while, he got bored. God, what he wouldn't give for a TV, or a gym. So, he got up and walked to lay down. He was exhausted. He closed his eyes, and quickly fell asleep.
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! "So, what did you do for fun, at home?" Nicolas was desperately trying to make conversation light and airy.
But Layla was captivated by the trees around her. Light was shining through thick foliage, and birds flew overhead. The air smelled like salt and green. As she heard Nicolas's words, Layla looked up at him with big, chocolate eyes. He was much taller than her. She didn't give an answer, though. Only stared at him.
He cleared his throat uncomfortably. "Uh, well, what about friends? Are they going to miss you..."
"Do you realize that we might be here forever?" Layla kept walking on, her light footsteps making impressions in the sand. Her voice was soft and whispering-it almost blended in with the ocean wind.
"Well, there are rescuers, and our family, they'll want us back." Nicolas was talking loudly and quick. "And then what about the Coast Guard? And the police? And the...."
Layla stopped and looked up at him, her eyes laughing. "You don't have to be so sure all the time," she said, showing a bright smile. "Sometimes it's better to accept things as they are. Haven't you ever just sat and wondered? Not ever space needs to be filled with talking."
Nicolas gave her a puzzled expression-almost as if he understood, but didn't understand. He opened his mouth to respond, but was taken aback by a shriek that rang from down the beach.
"That was a short trip," he said to himself as he and Layla hurried to where Olivia and Alex had been sitting.
Layla wished silently that it had lasted a little longer.
*****************
"What is it? What's the matter?" Nicolas asked, running over to Olivia. Her face was pale, and her eyes were wide with shock. Alex and Layla were now gathered around her too.
Instead of answering Nicolas, Olivia pointed to the sea, where huge waves were crashing on shore.
Layla gasped and moved closer to the surf. Someone tried to grab her arm but she couldn't help but be fascinated.
Out in the middle of the sea, was a water spout.
"What will it do if it hits land?" Layla asked, her voice a little louder than usual. Dark clouds were forming above the island, and the wind was picking up speed.
"Tornado," Alex said simply. "We'll be caught in a tornado."
"What do we do?" Olivia asked, her hands shaking.
Layla turned to Nicolas instinctively, as if searching for an answer. But his eyes, too, were plastered on the funnel of water moving closer to shore.
Glam-BACK "Okay let's not panick" said Alex trying to sound cool, calm, and collected.
"Oh sure, you're just saying that, not even accknowlodging the fact that were in mortal danger!" olivia screamed getting highly emotional.
"Let's just get into the shelter and make ourselves as small as possible" said Nicolas.
They all scurried inside the hut and squached dow on the floor.
The funnel was coming closer, and closer by the second and picking up power as it went along.
All Olivia remembered was the next five min. as complete and utter chaos.
When the funnel reached land amazingly no one screamed. olivia closed her eyes not wanting to see what would happen. The wind was roaring, and ripping at the hut. The roof had been ripped off and they were completley exposed to the spinning vortex above them.
Layla suddenly shot up into the air the funnel pulling her. Nicolas and Alex both grabbed her arms just before she was completley out of reach.
"Just let me go!" screamed Layla. "I'll be fine."
"No were not letting you die" screamed Nicolas above all the noise.
I have no idea what happened next because some how the two boys pulled Layla out of the spinning vortex of death and landed on top of me. In other words I got knocked out.
Agent-409 The wind only seemed to be getting worse as Nicolas and Alex pulled Layla back down, accidentally landing on Olivia. Nicolas got up quickly, and noticed that Olivia was passed out, she was still breathing, so Nicolas knew she would probably be okay when she came to- if this storm ever passed that was.
As quickly as he had gotten up, Nicolas realized they were still in the eye of the hurricane, or close enough to it to fool him. He ducked back down into what was remaining of the shelter. He pulled Layla close to him, trying to shield her as best he could from the flying debris. Alex did the same with Olivia.
“Are you okay?” Nicolas said quietly into Layla’s ear. She nodded. “Good.” He said.
The four of them stayed crouched to the ground, making themselves as small as they possibly could, hoping that the storm would pass without any more incidents. They got lucky. Pretty soon the wind began to die down and the four of them all stood up, Olivia was coming to, a little dazed but overall okay, at least just as well off as any of them were.
“What was that?” Layla asked, shaken up.
“We must be somewhere in the tropics…” Alex reasoned.
“The shelter is destroyed.” Olivia said, looking back at the remains of the shelter.
“We’re all lucky we’re still alive,” Nicolas said, “Besides, look at all the food the storm washed up.” They all looked to where Nicolas was pointing to see a beach full of fish and crabs that had been washed ashore.
Jason Simmons Alex gave a smile. It was true, they now had a good supply of food. The only only downside, their shelter was thrashed. He looked at Olivia, making sure she was alright. She was shaking a bit, but looked okay.
Then Alex felt himself shake. 'Hmm', he thought, 'I guess I was a little more scared than I wanted to admit. But scared for myself, or scared for...'. He let his thoughts trail off, smiling weakly at Olivia.
He looked to Nicolas and Layla to make sure they were alright. They were still embraced, huddled together. Alex let out a breath he'd been holding. It was time to get back to work.
So, while Olivia and Layla went collecting some of the fish, Alex and Nicolas began restoring their shelter, making a few adjustments to the design to make it more weather-sturdy. Then they sat down to eat.
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! Layla couldn't-wouldn't-take her eyes from the fire. The boys had built it up before the girls had returned-their hands sandy and slimy from carrying loads of shellfish back and forth from the beach to the shelter. They would collect the other, bigger fish later-when they had more light and more time. For now, they settled for clams, mussels, and oysters-mere mollusks that had been shunted from their homes by the driving forces of the wind.
"It's strange," Layla said as she loaded her arms up with the last load of the animals.
"What's strange?" Olivia asked. Her face was flushed from all the running and the fear of the day, Layla thought she looked quite beautiful in the evening light.
"Nothing," she said. When really she wanted to say, I wish I looked like you.
But Layla's lips were sealed, and she moved silkily back to the campsite, where the fire was raging. Now they were all around it-putting shells under the wood until slowly, they came apart and were ready to eat. Layla had eaten raw oysters before-but this was ridiculous.
"I guess we should decide what we're going to do to get rescued," Alex said, as he pulled apart a clam. "I mean, we ARE going to try to be rescued, right?"
Olivia nodded, and Layla shivered. What would they do for eternity on this beach?
"We could light a huge fire!" Olivia exclaimed, confident in her plan. But Nicolas shook his head.
"If we do that and we can't control it-it might burn down what we have left for shelter-the trees and everything. We need to preserve our resources."
Layla was silent as she took someone's jacket and put it over her shoulders. She was getting colder.
The three others continued talking as Layla looked around her. They weren't going to be rescued. They would live in the forest forever. Almost like The Lost Boys or The Lord of the Flies.
"I wonder what's in that forest," she whispered to herself. But no one heard her.
They were still busy talking about how to be rescued.
Glam-BACK The night sky was becoming darker and the air cooler as they sat around the fire and talked deep into the night.
After about 2 hours of straight talking they had somewhat of a plan. The next couple of days were going to be spent gathering food and building on to their shelter and making it even stronger. They still didn't know how exactly they were going to be rescued at the moment but they figured they'd find out later.
A little bit later Olivia said to everyone "Good-night everyone I'm going to bed, see you in the morning"
The other three continued to talk for a while and then everyone headed into the shelter to get a goodnights rest.
Jason Simmons Alex sat alone by the campfire after everyone had gone to sleep. Nicolas had told him that he needed to get some rest. But Alex was stubborn. He knew someone had to keep guard over the site during the night. He had made sure he was the first.
He heard a sifting of sand behind him and jumped up. Olivia gasped when he did this, frightened by his sudden move. He relaxed when he saw who it was. He apologized for scaring her.
She sat down beside him. Alex looked at her. She was still beautiful, the days on the island had not changed that. With the light of the campfire she looked absolutely stunning. Suddenly Alex couldn't help himself.
He looked at her, and she at him. He leaned over and kissed her. Then he fell into a fevered sleep from exhaustion.
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! Layla was sleeping fitfully. Although she wasn't having nightmares, she just couldn't shake the feeling of despair that had crept into her chest. It had started out small-when she thought of her mother and father crying over her lost soul. Or when she imagined her poor dog, Barbie, sitting near her bedroom door all alone. Although Layla wasn't prone to missing things (she welcomed change with silence and hidden gratitude), she started to realize that her house had really been a home.
Tossing and turning in the shadows, she tried not to make any noise. Sooner or later, the sun would rise, and she would be busy with basic survival skills. Layla touched the skin on her arm with a tentative finger. Although she was darkly complected, her skin was aching from the horrible sunburn that had covered the four islanders. There seemed no way to escape the harming UV rays.
Layla sighed and silently sat up. She decided she would take a walk into the forest like old times at home. She needed some adventure now-something not dangerous or hurtful-but maybe just a little alone time. After all, the sky and the stars were hers tonight.
She lightly padded down the sandy beach-catching a glimpse of Alex and Olivia sleeping by a fire. Layla smiled inwardly. Even if she were deserted on a sandy island, at least she had friends to share the experience with.
The ocean waves crushed musically along the shore-washing
against the sand and shells that crunched beneath Layla's toes. She strolled down by the water's edge, occasionally letting the surf lap against her ankles. Suddenly, she sat down and let the water run over her legs. She put her head on the sand and looked up at the sky.
"Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight....."
Jason Simmons Breakfast was alright, for what it was. Alex was not a big fan of seafood. He liked shrimp and crawfish, or what he called crawdads, and the occasional lake fish.
But he was hungry, so he enjoyed it. It was preety much their only source of food, other than lynx. But how long would that keep up for. He was the first done, so he sat back and waited for the others to finish.
Once they were all done, they let their food settle for a few minutes, then headed toward sea. It was preety hot outside, and the water felt cool on Alex's legs. Once he was deep enough, about waist deep, he sat down, enjoying the water's small surf swoosh over him.
Layla and Nicolas were wrestling each other in the water. Alex smiled. They made a cute couple, if they were, or were going to get, together. Olivia came and squated beside him. She looked at him square in the eye.
Agent-409 Nicolas and Layla were sitting on the sand after having had enough of the salt water splashed into their eyes by the other. Nicolas didn’t mind it so much but Layla wanted to get out.
They sat on the sand; Nicolas was watching Alex and Olivia, just floating closely in the water sharing in a conversation. He smiled but pulled his eyes away, knowing it probably wasn’t his business to watch.
Layla rested her head on Nicolas’ shoulder, surprising him a little.
“Hey.” She said softly.
“Hi.” He said in the same quiet way.
“Want to go for a walk?” She asked him.
“With you?” He said in a joking tone, “of course not.” She laughed a little and playfully slapped his bare arm. He smiled at her and stood, reaching out his hand to help her up. “Where to?” he asked.
Jason Simmons *To Glamgirl: I can't believe you left me with my own question.(LOL)*
"Well," Olivia said smiling. Alex tried to divert his eyes but couldn't. He didn't expect something like this to happen so soon. He had barely remembered kissing her. But when she asked, it all came back to him.
"This may take a while to say," he said, a little abashed. She smiled and gently squeezed his arm.
"It's not like we're going anywhere anytime soon," she laughed.
"OK. You are very beautiful and very kind. A good person. Someone who cares. Watching you brought something in me that I haven't felt in a long time. Attraction. And by the campfire, with it's soft glow, it was a very romantic moment. It felt right to do it."
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! "Somewhere no one has been before," Layla said dremily. As she got to her feet, she held tightly on to Nicolas's hand. "Don't be scared, Nicolas," she whispered, with a smile on her face. "I'll be here to protect you."
Nicolas looked a little uncomfortable, but followed Layla as she walked towards the tall trees. Leaves rustled above them and the sounds of birds flowed down to where Layla and Nicolas were walking.
"How are we going to find our way back?" Nicolas asked, looking down at the sandy ground. "It's thick back here."
Layla looked up at him. "See that tree over there?" she whispered. "It's leaning towards the opening on the left. And it's got a huge heron nest in the second branch on the right. We'll find our way back. Besides, even if we don't-is it any worse than being stuck on that beach for the rest of our lives?" She continued walking before waiting for an answer, still holding onto Nicolas's hand.
The two plodded on, holding hands, going deeper and deeper into the trees.
"Is there any particular place we're going to?" Nicolas asked.
Instead of answering, Layla said quietly. "There's something here, in the forest. A magic. Can't you tell?"
Layla was always intimite with her environment. She could tell when things were strange or interesting or natural. She was much more comfortable with herself and emotions, rather than people.
Suddenly, Nicolas stopped, pulling Layla back a little. "Did you hear that?" he asked.
Layla looked around. There were only trees and the occasional small animal. "No," she whispered. "Let's go find what we're looking for."
Nicolas tried to hold her back. "Layla, look. We're in the middle of a forest and our friends are back there and we don't even know what we're looking for."
Layla smiled and squeezed his hand. "Nicolas, look. We've lost our homes, our families, our lives as we know it. And when we find what we're looking for-we'll know what it is." She let go of his hand and kept walking.
Glam-BACK Olivia floated on the water thinking about what had just happened. No one had ever said anything like that to her before. It felt good, like someone actually did care about her.
Back when she lived with her grandmom and sisters no one ever listened to her. Even thought her grandma didn't come out and say it, Olivia knew she liked her sisters more than her. She'd always been too different. My sisters would always go out with my grandmom while I'd rather much stay home and read a book. Most of my sisters were like mega guinesses but I had problems in math. That always upset her because my grandpa won the world math brain thing.
So all in all Olivia was generally happy she was stuck on this island. She didn't even really care if she saw her grandmom and sisters again.
Her thoughts were interupted by shouting.
"What could possibly be happining now?" Olivia thought to herself.
"Come on, Come on, We found something, you have to see this!" Layla was the one screaming with Nicolas close behind.
Alex and I got up and trudged ashore to go follow them.
Agent-409 Nicolas was cautious, sure- but he knew he trusted Layla and her judgments and that was why he followed her into the forest.
“Nicolas, look. We’ve lost our homes, our families, our lives as we know it. And when we find what we’re looking for- we’ll know what it is.” And with those words she released his hand and walked deeper off into the woods.
For a few seconds, Nicolas just stood there. He didn’t know whether to follow her or not so he just stayed, contemplating what to do. Down one path was Layla and mystery while behind him, on the other path, was safety and the beach.
He took a deep breath and a step forward, pushing a few branches out of his way. When he finally caught up to Layla he found her standing in a clearing.
“Layla.” He said with a smile, “Got you.” He said, tagging her shoulder playfully. But she just stayed starting straight ahead. “Layla?” He said again, only this time it was a question. His eyes followed the path of Layla’s until they found what she was looking at.
“I don’t think we should be here.” Nicolas whispered. “Let’s go.” He reached his arms out and put his hands onto her shoulders to try and pull her to turn back. Just as his hands touched her shoulders, she jumped and started running back through the forest path they had come in on, calling for Alex and Olivia.
Nicolas stood in the clearing alone now. Something about what his eyes were seeing made him feel uneasy. His heart started racing and his eyes darted around the open space. To him it looked like ruins of some sort, burial grounds maybe- he wasn’t sure.
Layla’s words echoed in his head. “And when we find what we’re looking for- we’ll know what it is.” But he was sure this was not what he was looking for.
He turned around to run and follow Layla out of the forest, catching her easily before they met up with Alex and Olivia again.
“You guys have got to see this” Layla said to the two, “Come on!”
Nicolas caught Alex’s eye and was sure Alex could tell he wasn’t so sure about going back into the forest. Just then, Layla took his hand once again in hers, and Nicolas shrugged, Alex smiled, taking Olivia’s hand in his own.
Layla pulled Nicolas along again with Alex and Olivia close behind and the next thing he knew, they were all standing in the clearing once again, starting at the ruins of another time.
Jason Simmons Alex blinked a few times to let his thoughts come together. Ruins, in the middle of this jungle island. His frown deepened. He was worried, and he would show it.
Together, the group walked up to the ruins cautiously. It looked to be some sort-of temple from what Alex could see. He looked around for any type of hieroglyph or other markings that could tell what kind of civilization had built this.
"It looks almost like a mix between ancient Aztec and Egyptian," Alex said aloud. The others looked at him thoughtfully.
"It does have some similar characteristics of those," Nicolas chimed." Which leaves me to believe we're somewhere between South America and Africa."
"Probably an island right off the Canaries," Layla said, hopefully.
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! "Wow!" Olivia had picked up some small artifact- a tiny wooden figurine that looked almost like a miniture animal totem pole. "What do you think this is?"
Layla's mind raced with possible explanations, and her face flushed with the wonder of the place. There was a certain feeling of aura that covered the entire island, but now that they had found these ruins, Layla couldn't help but feel that she was always meant to stray here. She wandered a little ways from the group-her eyes scanning the ground, and fingers running over the cool stones that made up the ruins. Tiny marks covered the stones-etchings that could have been a lost language from some group of unknown peoples.
She could hear Alex's voice float down to where she was searching. "That means that people were able to live on this island for generations. That's a good sign. I mean, at least now we know its possible..."
She heard Nicolas's excited response, but couldn't make out the words. Layla wandered further into the pile of rubble, until she was no longer able to see or hear her friends. She stooped down among rocks and sand on the ground, and sifted through shards of material found she found on the ground.
Suddenly, her eyes fell on a small, jeweled object that had turned black with years of decay and worn with years of eroding sand. As she picked it up, she realized it was some sort of necklace-a necklace that had once been exotic and beauitful. Though small, the object felt special to Layla, and she pocketed it.
"Layla!" Olivia was shouting worriedly, and Layla stood up with an almost guilty look on her face. She didn't want her friends to know about the necklace. It was a secret she shared with this magical place.
Olivia came up to her, as she saw her stand. "Hey! Where have you been? Come see what we found...."
And as Layla was led behind her friend, she was glad that she had not asked what Layla had been searching for. Layla once again became almost invisible, speaking softly and gliding along in the wake of these new surroundings.
Agent-409 The four of them now stood before a door of some type, leading into a part of the ruins they couldn’t quite see from the outside.
“Do we dare?” Alex asked.
“I don’t know…” Layla said uncertainly.
“Sure.” Olivia said with a smile directed to Alex.
“Yeah.” Nicolas said. “Yeah… I mean look at it this way, this place is pretty much… messed up…I don’t think anything behind that door would be able to hurt us, I don’t think anyone has been here for a very long time.”
“Okay…” Layla said reluctantly, “Yeah… let’s go.”
Alex was the closest to the door and tried to push it open, it looked heavy and Nicolas went over to try and help him push it aside. The two of them worked together and in no time the door was opened and it was dark inside.
“Anyone got a light?” Nicolas asked with a laugh. Everyone shook their heads. “Guess we’ll just have to let our eyes adjust then.” He said as he was the first to step in, feeling brave, there was a good vibe about this place.
The others followed him in. As it turned out, the place wasn’t very big at all. There was a small table in the middle and the room for the most part was circular. It was definitely unlike anything Nicolas had seen before in his life.
“What do you think this place is?” Olivia asked.
”I have no idea…” Alex said a little mesmerized by the place.
“It’s a sanctuary.” Nicolas said in a low voice, “A place of peace.” And he felt it, here in this place, he felt comfortable, like maybe this one piece of the island he never could have done without.
Jason Simmons Alex could feel the peace of the place, too. And yet, still something ominous. Like it was a place for peace, but something bad had driven it away. He looked at Nicolas, who seemed to sense the same thing. Neither told the girls of their feelings, not wanting to scare them.
So they continued to wander around the room a bit. Alex's eyes fell on the large, well, it looked like some sort of cabinet, or closet. Alex went over and opened it. His eyes widened.
"Nic," he whispered, out of earshot of Olivia or Layla. Nicolas walked over to him. His eyes always widened when he saw the spears, swords, and shields that were in the closet.
"We could use these," Nicolas said.
"We could," Alex agreed. So they set about picking out a good supply.
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! Layla unconciously rubbed the necklace in her pocket. Even though they had found this place of peace, to her, something felt as if it were still alive-and the air around her vibrated with the possibility that this place had not been long uninhabited. As the boys looked at the weapons admiringly, Layla got in between them. She picked up a sword and was surprised at the heavy weight. It almost brought her to her knees.
Nicolas laughed, and helped her, taking away the sword. "I think you might be just a little too tiny for that sword." Layla smiled absent-mindedly. In the back of the cabinet was a small bow with a quiver of arrows.
"Can I try that?" Layla asked, pleasantly. The boys, too interested with the other weapons didn't mind giving up such a small thing. They handed Layla the bow and went back to their other weapons.
Olivia came over. "Can you shoot it?" she asked.
"I took archery since I was five. My dad always wanted me to be able to go out and hunt with him, so he tried to get me to take to rifelry. But while I was at the range, a nice man showed me how to shoot an arrow, and I loved it ever since."
Lalya pointed to a tree outside of the door. A long, straight shot from where she was standing.
"See that knot in the tree right there? I can hit it."
Olivia laughed at her. "There's no way you can."
Layla reached past the boys, took an arrow, strung it through her bow, released and watched as it directly hit the spot she had described. The boys, who had been watching since the conversation started, looked on in disbelief.
"I can teach you to shoot if you want," Layla said to Olivia.
"That was amazing," Nicolas said in admiration.
"Yes," Layla laughed. "But I can't even hold a sword."
Glam-BACK Olivia unlike the others wasn't too happy about the newly found weapons. She'd had some bad experiances with weapons before and wasn't looking forward to the days that lay ahead.
"No thanks I'll just watch," olivia said in reply to Latla's offer to teach her to shoot.
"Oh Come on. It's easy, besides you'll need to have some source of defense." urged Layla.
Layla started to pick up Olivia's arm and place it on the bow but Olivia was trying to stop her.
"Please no, i said no-"
"Oh stop moving or your hurt yourself."said Layla oblivious to Olivia's defiance.
"I SAID NO!" olivia screamed and dropped the bow on the ground and headed in the oppisite direction of the other's on the verge of tears.
Jason Simmons Alex ran after Olivia, carrying his three swords, one strapped to a sheath on his back, the other to swinging at his waist. He saw that she was heading back to the beach, where he guessed she felt comfort.
She ran and sat by the campfire, crying. Alex went over and sat down beside her. He wasn't sure if he should bother her, but he cared for her, and didn't want to see her sad.
He put a comforting hand on her shoulder, which at first she batted away. Then she looked up and apologized to him. She hugged him and asked to just be held. Those weapons must have brought back a really bad memory. So he sat there with her and let her cry on his shoulder, where she fell asleep.
Glam-BACK Olivia awoke with a blanket over her still by the campfire, she looked and saw the others sitting a little down the shore. She got up and made her way over to them.
"You guys, I'm really sorry I freaked out yesterday." Olivia said to the three of them.
"That's okay ," said Layla. "I shouldn't have pushed you.
Olivia just smiled in response.
"Now with that settled," Nicolas said. "We have some more exploring to to.
With that the four of them set out once again deep into the forest, unaware that today would be one of the biggest adventures of their lives.
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! Sometimes Layla worried about the group. Usually she could tell what others were thinking, but Olivia had escaped her understanding.
"Well," Layla thought to herself, as the four of them laughed and talked and enjoyed some resting time, " I guess we'll find out later. I can't ask her now, in front of everyone."
Layla couldn't stop touching the necklace she had found in the ruins. It gave her a special feeling throughout-a feeling of security and magic that could only be attributed to it's ancient vibe.
"Do you think people were here recently?" Layla asked in a whisper, her voice coming out innocent and naive.
Alex laughed. "No, no. These are ancient ruins. No one's been here for hundreds of years."
"Oh," Layla answered, bringing her gaze back towards the ruins.
Nicolas gave her a strange look, but Layla didn't notice.
Though she wasn't an expert on history, there was something about the place that made her feel they weren't alone. She thought maybe, for once, Alex was wrong.
Agent-409 Nicolas had the feeling that Alex was right when he said no one had been there for hundreds of years- how could they have been? Everything was destroyed and nothing seemed remotely liveable.
Layla, however, had a strange air about her now as if she knew something she wasn't sharing. Nicolas didn't like that about her, the way she kept her secrets. But he had his too, so he let it go for the most part and tried not to focus too much on that.
There wasn't much more to do as the sun was setting so they all decided they'd head back to camp. They had a little dinner and then all settled in for bed, knowing tomorrow there would be even more exploring to do.
Jason Simmons Again, Alex insisted to be the first to take watch. Again, the others begrudgingly let him. he knew what they thought, and they were right. by keeping these God-awful hours, he felt as if he were wilting away.
He kept his swords close to him, and a small spear stuck in the sand beside him. He'd use the spear first against anything harmful. But at the moment, he seemed to be the most dangerous thing on the island.
Nicolas came and sat down about three or four hours later. He told Alex to go to bed, and Alex relunctantly complied. He made his way over to the shelter. He saw Olivia shivering in the cold of the night.
He lay beside her and used his own body to warm her, forgetting his own cold.
Glam-BACK Olivia woke up the next morning a little more perky than usual bouncing around very cheerful. She had been doing a lot of thinking latley, she decided they'd probably be on this island for a while and that she might as well make the best of it. Time to forget the past, start fresh.
"Good morning!" Olivia said as she sat around the campfire.
"Someone's in a good mood," said Alex while roasting fish for that mornings breakfast.
Olivia didn't say anything just sat down, enjoying her surrondings.
The others woke and sat down talking and eating fish.
BOOM!!!!!
"What was that?" Layla asked covering her ears.
"It sounded like it was a gunshot" said Nicolas standing up.
All olivia could think was uh-oh, another adventure.
Jason Simmons Alex raced toward the sound. He had not, however, forgotten his own weapons. his heart raced as he climbed the hill. He looked down towards the shore.
There, sitting docked at the beach, was a small vessel. It looked unwelcome and aboding to Alex's eyes. Nicolas reached the hill right after Alex and looked down. He then looked at Alex.
He saw it. Alex was worried, and exhausted. Nicolas didn't know how much of a fight Alex could put up in his condition if it came to it. They turned to see if Olivia and Layla had caught up.
Alex froze.
Behind Olivia and Layla were two men who didn't look all that friendly. Alex decided that if it was a fight they were looking for, they had come to the wrong place. Especially if they hoped to win.
One grabbed Layla and threw her onto the sand. He raised his dagger, and stopped cold. He fell to the ground, the spear Nicolas had thrown lodged into his back. The other went for Olivia.
But when he reached her, he met the blade of Alex's sword. They saw another one approached and Alex picked up the bow Layla had dropped. He notched the arrow and sent it flying. The man was dead before he hit the ground.
They ran back to the shelter, hoping that others would not come, but they would be prepared if they did.
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! Layla was shaken beyond any sort of belief. Rough hands had grabbed her, and already bruises were showing where the savages had dented her skin. She couldn't get the image of the man's yellow teeth and wicked snarl out of her mind. Even hours later, as the four sat huddled together, whispering and wary, watching the ocean take the dead bodies wave upon wave away from them, Layla could only imagine black eyes and savage smells coming from deep within the woods.
"Are you okay?" Nicolas asked more than once, but Layla could neither say yes or no. She clenched the necklace tight to her, put a comforting hand on the bow, and went back to staring at the foliage.
"They could be everywhere," she whispered to Olivia who was sitting next to her. "Do you think we're surrounded by camps of them?"
Olivia was frightened, too, but not as terribly in shock. "No," she said, forcing a smile. "I'm sure those were just stragglers who had been on trapped on this island like we were."
But Layla looked Nicolas in the eyes and saw that he thought that comment as ridiculous as she did. At least Olivia was trying to make her feel better.
"We should have a meeting place that's easily found," Layla finally spoke up.
"What for?" Alex asked as he looked at the weaponry, and tried to shine it with sea salt.
"In case we get seperated," Layla answered in a whisper.
Jason Simmons Alex had silently agreed to Layla's idea. But the place to go would be another problem altogether. They couldn't rely on the campsite on the beach. If any more, for lack of a better word, pirates came, they could not hold the site if seperated.
Nicolas came up with the idea of using the ruins they found.
Glam-BACK "What should we do now?" Olivia asked feeling the tension between the group.
"Just wait I guess," said Alex.
Olivia had to admit she thought this was going to be great, not having a care in the world, alone on this island with her three companions. But now with these other people, what happens if they came back?
Olivia sat lost in her own thoughts breathing in the cool night air praying things would get better.
Agent-409 Nicolas sat staring at the stars, imagining a world far away from here. It was nice here, he supposed, but it wasn't where he truely wanted to be. What teenager in their right mind actually welcomed being deserted on an island maybe a million miles away from home (and if not, at least it seemed a million miles) with little food, little hope of rescue, and now invaders? He knew this was not good, as much as he tried to trick himself into believe it was- it was not good.
The night was silent and Nicolas knew no one would be able to sleep that night. He stood up, not content to just sit around anymore. He climbed to the highest part of the ruins to see if he could see anything. What met his eyes was in fact the worst thing he had ever seen in his life- absolutely nothing.
At least if there were invaders in sight, he figured, they might have a chance of stealing some food from their camp or trying to get some other supplies. And that's when he came up with the craziest idea he had ever gotten in his whole life.
"They have boats right?" He asked down to the others, sitting around a pile of sticks (they had not made a campfire out of fear it would be spotted).
"Yes..." Layla said quietly, but he heard her all right.
"Well..." Nicolas started, "I was thinking..."
"No." Alex said, "We can't do that."
"You haven't even heard what I have to say." Nicolas remarked.
"But I know what you're thinking- and you're crazy!" Alex replied.
"Maybe." Nicolas said, "But it would sure get us off of this island..."
"If we lived!" Olivia said, obviously annoyed at Nicolas' idea.
"Right..." He said, thinking over his plan again. It wasn't much of a plan, but it was an idea, an idea just crazy enough that it could work.
Jason Simmons Alex had thought of stealing the boats, too. But he knew it was too risky. He couldn't bring himself to put the others in harms way. He couldn't bring himself to risk their lives.
He looked at Olivia. He couldn't bring himself to see her get hurt. He had done a terrible thing already today. He had murdered another human being. Albeit, the other human had tried to kill some he cared for, someone he....
He pulled Olivia to the side. She looked confused at his sudden action. She could see he wanted to talk to her alone. She could see the desperation in his eyes. He wanted to keep her safe. He wanted her off the island away from harm.
"What is it?" she asked, concern in her words. He just looked at her. He gave her an embrace and assured her everything was going to be alright. He gave her a loving kiss. She blushed slightly.
After everyone went to bed, stillness settled on the ruins. When they woke in the morning, they made a terrible discovery. Alex was gone. And so was Layla's bow.
**********************
Alex stood on the cliff overlooking the beach. He could see their former encampment, and the pirates scrummaging through everything. They had a watchguard looking over the group. But he wasn't very good. Alex notched an arow and let it fly.
The guard died silently. The others never knew of his death. But they joined him soon enough.
GoldenHopeisWorkinHard! "Where is he?" Olivia was almost hysterical. The three islanders could not find Alex. They had looked as far as they dared to look, they had gone in every direction and even searched the sea.
"Why, he's taken your idea Nicolas. And gone to the boats," Layla said. "Should we go rescue him?" She said this so Olivia couldn't hear. She didn't want her getting into an even worse state.
"No," Nicolas answered, taking Layla's hand. "If Olivia hears, she'll want to go right away. And we need to give him some time-or else we might be the death of him."
"Nicolas, I'm not worried. He's pretty smart, you know? When will we know when it's time to go to him?"
"What are you two talking about?" Olivia came over suspiciously.
"Nothing," Nicolas answered, letting go of Layla's hand and pushing her visibly away.
Layla might have imagined it. But without his hand covering hers, she felt a little less sure and safe.
Glam-BACK It had been over an hour and a half and Alex still wasn't back yet. So many questions raced through Olivia's head: Where was he? what did he do? When would he be coming back? If he would be coming back.
She had a growing suspicion that Nick and Layla were planning something but she ignored that for the moment.
Olivia was pacing walking along the edge of the beach while all these thoughts raced through her mind. She hoped Alex was alright and he he was...she'd kill him. No she wouldn't do that but...
Her thoughts were interupted by a scream in the distance.
"HELP!"Olivia knew at once it was Alex and was the first one racing in the direction of the scream.
Jason Simmons Alex stood in the midst of bodies. Dead bodies. Pirates bodies. He looked at his hands. They were shaking uncontrollably. He could't believe what he had just done. He had slaughtered them all. Blood was sprayed over his shirt.
"HELP!" he yelled. He fell on his knees and buried his hands in his face. It wasn't long before Olivia came rushing on to the beach, followed closely by Nicolas and Layla. Olivia kneeled at his side.
It was only then did she catch her surroundings. She stared around in disbelief and looked back at Alex. Fear struck her. Had her Alex done this.
"What happened?" she asked. He just looked at her, a single tear falling from his face.
Glam-BACK Olivia was shocked. She knew it was for their own saftey but she never thought any human being was capable of doing this. But then again their was her Uncle. That cold Friday night down at the shore locked in the basment...No, she coulnd't dwell on the painful memories. Especially not now.
Once more Olvia looked around to take in her surroundings. She shuddered and took a deep breath. She had to be strong. She couldn't let her past weigh her down, it was time to move forward.
"Let's get out of here." Layla said after a few moments of silence.
With that the four of them headed down to their hut, leaving the dreadful scence behing them.
Jason Simmons Alex sat by the campfire they had created, still trying to get a hold of himself. What had he done? Why had he done done it? But these questions he quickly answered to himself. Both the how, and the why.
But still he just sat, while the others made sure they had food. Soon Olivia came and sat down beside him. She just threw her arms around him and gave him a hug. A hug he desperately needed.
And after he ate, he simply curled up, and fell asleep.
Agent-409 "At least we're safe." Nicolas thought to himself. He was standing away from the group and the campfire that Alex had created. He glanced over at Alex, but only for a second, then he looked away.
He hadn't pegged Alex to be the type to brutally murder another human being, let alone a group of them. He was a little bit surprised that he had it in him. At the same time, he was grateful for what Alex had done. Mixed feelings... he wasn't sure what to do about them.
Nicolas had buried the men in a shallow grave on the edge of the forest when he had the chance to, but even that seemed like hours ago. He hadn't asked Alex to help because the other boy seemed so distraught over what had been done. He felt bad for the guy.
He walked over and came up next to Alex, gently touching him on the shoulder as he crouched down. He thought he felt Alex flinch a little, but then he just looked at him.
"Hey..." Nicolas sad, "No one blames you okay? I just wanted to come over here and tell you that we're grateful... thanks..." he whispered quietly. Alex didn't say anything, he just looked away.
Nicolas got up and walked away. He wanted to help Alex feel better, but at the same time, he didn't want to get on his bad side by trying too hard.
"He'll be okay..." He whispered to Olivia as he passed her.
He walked away from the group a little ways. Looking out over the water, Nicolas wondered how far he could swim before he got tired and drowned. Right now, that was all he could think about, the only option he could see... them swimming away. He sighed... just hoping that the coast guard would be around when he finally decided to take the chance...
