| [Introduction]
Welcome to the Garrison household! In this campfire we'll be playing a family. A big one. :P I need two people to play the parent parts, and I cant start it without having parents so if you want the part email me. I think there will be about 6 kids. Crazy, right? How are we supposed to all get along!? The family dynamics are more than a little crazy, so feel free to get on each others nerves. Thats what family's for, right? Oh... and did I mention this family has super powers? ---- -The kids can be age 10-18 -No cursing, sex, or graphic violence -Please don't be all powerful. -You have four days to add -Have fun! |
Name: Seth Garrison Age: 16 Appearance: Has shaggy brown hair that falls over his face and at some points almost goes to his neck, blue-green eyes and a lean body build. Wears skater shoes, gray jeans, a black hoodie and generally some T-shirt that has some kind of rock band logo on it, and sometimes a black hat. Personality: Seth is quiet, and generally misunderstood by the populace at large. His family understands him... sort of, but most of his school dismiss him as just another punk kid. He's great with the younger kids in the family, and does well with the older ones too. Powers: Seth can go through anything. Walls, lockers, etc. It can be his hand or his whole body. He also seems to be able to sneak around eerily quiet, but no ones sure if that is actually a power, or just part of his personality. Age: 18 Appearance: Long dirty blonde hair, usually in a braid. Large green eyes. She's muscular for a girl, considering she's on the crew team at school and has weight lifting class every day. Personality: Allie's got the worst temper in the family, but she doesn't throw tantrums or anything. She just simmers and glares at you until you apologize. She's also adventurous and doesn't usually think before she does something if she gets excited or angry. When she's good tempered she's tons of fun. Power: Super hearing. She can hear anything up to fifty miles away clear as a bell, which means if you whisper in another room, she can hear you as if you're standing right next to her. She can also hear heartbeats and things like the ticking of the second hand on a clock. Gets frequent headaches. Age: 41 Appearance: Medium brown, wavy hair that falls to her shoulders. Her tilted eyes are a shade of greenish blue like the Aegean Sea. She has a lean, fit body frame with some soft curves from having six children. She's a simple gal when it comes to clothing as there always a bunch of activity in the house to attend to. Jeans, t-shirts, and cardigans make up most of her side of the closet. Personality: Helene number one priority is being there for her family. She has a warm presence and compassionate nature that draws even the toughest of people out their shell. Her respect for her children has eased most of the complicated teenaged frustration that many parents face with their kids, but there are rare moments of bickering. Still, she laid back personality coupled with structured guidelines make the family a close-knit one. It also helps that she's best friends with her husband. Power: Plant control. Helene has a super green thumb when it comes to any type of plant life, which can come in handy for those dangerous occasions and helps save on the produce bill. She loves to garden, especially when she needs alone time. Because of her ability the family's backyard is like an enchanted forest of various fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers. Can become weak and unconscious if she overextends her power. Age: 45 Appearance: Green jade colored eyes, dirty blonde hair that comes to his shoulders, he usually keeps it back in a ponytail, well defined body build, with a house full of children you have to keep your body in shape. When not working he likes to wear sweats of all colors, or jeans, and a nice t-shirt along with his converse. Personality:Lucas loves his family above all else. He's the kind of dad that tries to understand both sides of the situation before passing final judgement. Lucas believes in open communication, meaning he makes it his first priority to spend time with his children as much as possible. He thinks his life is pretty good especially because he not only married his highschool sweetheart, but before they were a couple she was his best friend, so when it comes to laying down the law there are no misunderstandings. Power: Flight- This isn't your normal flying ability. He can make anything light is a feather to take with him. His ability also cuts the cost of gas. He can go up to Mach 2 when flying so he can get places pretty fast. The only down side to his ability is that he can only stretch it up to four people. Age: 11 Appearance: Eyes as gold as the stuff she creates. Wavy brown hair below her shoulders. Wears casual 'outdoorsey' sort of clothes, still fashionable in a unique way. Average build for an eleven year old girl. Personality: Quite mature for her age, capable of understanding 'grown-up' conversations when the older people of the family speak of 'adult matters', so people have stopped excluding her. She enjoys exploring outdoors, and looks up to Seth in every way possible. Always follows him around when possible. She knows he feels misunderstood and wants him to know he's not alone. Power: Has the power of creating a gold colour substance not found anywhere else on earth. It can be manipulated in any way possible, hard, flowing, smooth, round, slimy, sticky, anything. Limit is that it cannot be duplicated once made, eg she can't make it expand. She can't create more than three litres of it a day. Name: Samantha Garrison (Sam for short) Age: 16 Appearance: Born as a twin to Seth. Has long shaggy brown hair that falls to the middle of her back, blue-green eyes and fairly skinny. Wears tight blue jeans and close fitting shirts. She usually wears black skater shoes but sometimes, just for the heck of it, she goes barefoot. Personality: Samantha is basically the opposite of Seth. She is very outgoing and has many friends. Teachers like her(usually because she's nice to them when other students aren't). The teachers wonder how exactly Sam and Seth are twins but are so different. She gets along well with the family. Powers: Samantha's power is slightly opposite from Seth's. Instead of being able to move as if the object isnt there, she can make objects stronger. For example, she can make a wooden door as strong as a air-tight steel vault door. She has yet to find all the possibilities of the power, but her dream is to make something that Seth can't walk through. Age: 17 Appearance: Short build with wavy brown hair and dark blue eyes which people claim to get lost in if they stare too hard. Tends to wear T-Shirts and striped wool jumpers, completed with baggy trousers and worn trainers. Personality: Is the scientifical member of the family, using his unusual for his age intelligence to deal with problems rather than always his actual powers, and has strived to being well-read and has a great thirst for knowledge. However he is not a complete recluse and enjoys spending time with his friends and family, ahd has a great love for Comic Book Super Heroes, his idols being many of the science types like Reed Richards and in particular Hank Pym (who of course shares his abilities, abeit artifically rather than organically as he does) and he is keen to enter University for a Science Degree in the coming years. Powers: Can malipulate the size of himself and other objects and people around him, the latter which must be a metre away if he does not wish to strain himself. Size Changing his own body, whether it be smaller or larger, can also cause him to strain if the change is too extreme. Shrinking he has never pushed himself beyond an Itch tall as the effect can be exhausting. Growing is more problematic, as his parents have advised him to save this for emergencies only lest he be recognised even at fifty feet tall. With his scientific prowess and mother's help, Jamie built a special suit which respond to his size changing as well as being capable of surviving more dangerous environments, a special version of the costumes his parents have given to their children to protect their identities. "Alright guys, can you come to the living room for a second?" Helene called. Everyone gathered around their mother. "I know this is your first day at school, but try to think positive okay?" "Can I join the gymnastics team?" Arhian asked, jumping up and down with her hand up. "I think you have to try out, but sure. And... you don't need to raise your hand yet. I'm not your teacher." Helene smiled at her children. "And remember, this is a new year. Maybe things will get better." Seth sighed. School getting better? Yeah right. "I can't drive you guys today because I have a doctors appointment." She threw the car keys to Allie. "Besides, I bet you guys don't want your mom dropping you off at school." "I do!" Arhian hugged Helene. Helene laughed. "Now, get moving or your going to be late. And I'm not going to take any excuses, you got it?" Then she kissed each of her children on the head and stood out of the way. "I'll see you all later!" She called as they filed out of the house. Seth got in the middle seat. "Hey, this is my spot!" Sam cried. "You have a spot?" He asked. "Yeah, I do. I always sit here." Sam explained, annoyed. "How come you have to sit in that seat?" Arhian asked. "Is it like a weird tic or something? "If you don't get your butts in the car right now, I'm leaving all of you." Allie growled. Seth went through the middle seat and sat in the back one. He wasn't sure why Sam wanted her seat so bad... but no one messed with Allie. "Thank you." Sam said, hopping in and setting her backpack in her lap. They started to go down the street, when Allie looked back in the rearview mirror. "Sam, put your seat belt on." She said. "Don't worry, I made our car as strong as a vault door in Fort Nox." Sam said. "Yes, well the police don't know that. I don't want to get a ticket." "She's so afraid cause she wants mom and dad to get her her own car." Sam snickered. "Only so I can get away from you guys." Sam stuck her tongue out, and Allie returned it via mirror. "Oh, yeah, thats mature." Jamie said, scribbling something in a notebook. "What are you doing?" Allie asked. "Homework." Jamie replied. "What? School hasn't even started yet. How can you-" "Oh, well I applied to some summer school classes." "But I never saw you going anywhere." "I did it online." Jamie shrugged, returning to what seemed to be a very complex geometry problem. "You are such a nerd." Allie said, shaking her head. "Hey, Seth." Arhian was leaning back over her seat to see him. "Do you like my notebook?" She held up a butterfly filled notebook. "Yeah." He smiled. She beamed back at him. "I really hope I get into the gymnastics team this year." She continued. "Last year I thought I wanted to be a cheer leader, but... their too catty. " She smiled at Sam. Sam promptly whacked her with her own notebook, sending Arhian and Seth into laughter. Finally they pulled into the school's parking lot and the all got out, Seth using the trunk as an exit. Opening the door, of course. "Okay, I'll meet you guys here at three." Allie said. "See you." Everyone separated, Allie and Jamie heading to their classes, Seth and Sam to theirs, and Arhian to hers. "Man, it seemed like summer went so fast!" Sam cried, throwing up her hands. She seemed to be taking in the sunshine. "Yeah. Back to the old routine." He sighed. "I think I'm going to like my classes better this year." Sam said, putting something in her locker, which happened to be located near Seth's. "So glad to be out of Mr. Herrick's class." She shuddered. "That guy's a creep." "Sam!" Some girls ran over. "Its been so long, girl!" "Erin, Ashley!" Sam threw herself into the huge group of girlish hugging. "What classes do you have?" One of her friends asked. "Oh, the normal." Sam shrugged. "Did you get the text I sent you about what Jessica Drew did with you know who?" Erin whispered. "No!" Sam cried. "No." She lowered her voice an octave in disbelief. "With-?" "Yeah! I know, right?" They were all laughing as they walked away. He had every class with Sam except first period and P.E. Seth looked around after he checked his schedule. Different people and their clicks, all doing something, going somewhere. Except him. He sighed as he saw the jocks heading over, knowing that they'd noticed him. They didn't bother him too bad, since they thought both of his sisters were hot, but it wouldn't stop them from making this year just as hellish as the last one. Oh joy. Joy and ecstasy. Allie sighed and tugged out a notebook and a spare pencil. Physics with Mr. Howe would be torture. All the other girls might think him the hottest teacher in the school, but he had no tolerance for late or missing work and unacceptable grades. Since she had nothing better to do and her friends were probably going to be to school late just as they were every morning of the new year, she trooped down to the Physics room and took a seat. She could hear the girls in the corner of the room three hallways away. Ugh- the preps. Why were they in here so early? Didn't they have football player boyfriends to hang out with? "Oh, look who just walked in," one of the girls whispered, though Allie could hear it crystal clear. "Isn't she that Garrison kid? With, like, eight siblings?" another replied. "Yeah. She's such a freak and I hear she almost killed the lunch lady last year," another added. Allie clenched her teeth. "Brush it off, Al," came a whisper from her left. She turned to find Jamie sitting in the seat next to her. "What are you doing here?" she asked, narrowing her eyes. "This is my first hour," Jamie answered. Allie grabbed his schedule and saw it to be true. Could fate screw up her life any more? Before she could say anything back to her brother, she heard another voice beside her, to her right. "Hi Allie, how was your summer?" Allie turned and her face immediately brightened to find her best friend, Dustin sitting next to her. "Dustin! Hi!" she said, forgetting all about her brother. Maybe this year would be great after all. Helene could have seen and had been enraptured with the plants process had her mind not been elsewhere. One of Helene's most treasured places was outside in her garden. When she was able to twist the arms of her children, the family all hiked outside and had picnics under the shade of the avocado and orange trees. With the green grass under their feet, they'd play baseball or simply romp around without a care in the world, laughing toward the sky. Those were precious moments she wouldn't give up for the world. It could all change, she thought nervously, sadly. It had never been easy for them, especially given how gifted they all were. Being discreet with such power was complicated in this day and age. But they had made the most of it. They had remained a family even through the tough spots. And she wanted nothing to change that. Suddenly tired, Helen sat down on the stone bench underneath the shadiest of the trees and closed her eyes. She felt the essence of life around her, something that had stopped the moment she left the doctor's office. The feeling and emotions tingled along her skin. She felt light again, somehow whole. She wanted so desperately to forget the haunting words of her doctor. Time passed slowly as she simply absorbed her surroundings. It was only the faint rustling of the leaves on the path, and the sudden sense of energy, that made her open her troubled eyes to the sight of her husband. It was odd their connection to each other. Even when they first met in elementary school, the day he saved her on the playground, she had had an elemental reaction to his presence. No matter where they were or how crowded a place was, she always knew when Lucas was close by. That sudden feeling of safety allowed her fisted hands to relax slightly in her lap. A slow, lingering kiss was placed on her mouth before Lucas took a close seat next to her, facing the opposite direction. They sat in silence for a few minutes, enjoying the peace and togetherness of the moment. The feel of his large, calloused hand holding hers made her heart lurk. She leaned into his solid frame. "How did the kids do this morning?" Lucas asked, giving her time to gather her thoughts. Helene smiled in memory. "Pretty good. Nervous a bit but excited to start a new year." She picked up a small, wilted red rose that had fallen from the bush. With a simple touch of her finger the flower bloomed again. "Well, Seth wasn't as happy as the others but I know he'll make it. He has a strong spirit like his father. And Ahrain," she laughed, the sound bringing a smile to Lucas's face. "She was such a burst of energy I know she could have fueled the sun if she wanted." "Our kids are growing up." Helene's smile turned wistful. "Yes, love. I'm afraid they are, and much too fast for my tastes." "What happened with the doctor today?" With agile fingers, Lucas took the rose bud from her hand, feeling the new life pulsing through the flower, and tenderly placed the newly restored bloom behind Helene's ear. "Dr. Tomikoto is a little worried about some tests he had run a few months ago." Lucas frowned. "I thought those were standard tests?" Helene turned her gaze down to the garden, nervously fingering the rose tucked behind her ear. "They were, but there's something not reading well. He took more blood samples from me." Lucas tilted her face back up to his with the tip of his finger. The sight of unshed tears sent a flash of worry through his system. "You're never this bothered by tests. Will they-- can they find---" "No, love." Helene shook her head softly, sending the dark strands of her hair dancing before her eyes. "They can't find our powers through our blood that way." "Then why do you seek solitude out here with cloudy eyes?" As Helene moved to turn away Lucas brought her back to gazing into her eyes. From his stare she knew there would be no hinding from the truth. "Tell me, Hel. What's happening with you?" In that moment she wanted to be more like her children and all their quirks. She wanted Sam's happy-go-lucky smile, Jaime's practical mind and common sense, and Allie's fiery temper. She wanted all of her children close by to know that they were safe. And happy. Happy was the most important. Lucas would always make sure they were happy should she not... "Helene?" Helene took the hand stroking her arm softly and brought it to her face, cradling the large, rough palm gently against her cheek. She always needed Lucas's rock steady sense of being to get through the hard times. Now she had to be a rock for him. "Baby, tell me what the doctor told you." Helene sighed, breathing in the essence of the plants, before finding the courage to say, "Dr. Tomikoto told me I might have cancer." Lucas thought these things as he flew high above the clouds letting his thoughts run over all the years they had together. "Dr. Tomikoto told me I might have cancer." Those words he will never forget and as he speeds through the sky away from everything getting himself some time to come to terms with the days events. How could this happen? Lucas thought as he sailed in the sky away from all the things he knew. Actually, he was suppose to be stopping by the store for some monthly groceries but that would not have taken him that long so he said that an old friend needed some help with something. In all the years they have been together they have always faced things together, but this illness or rather the possibility of this illness had hit a spot that went very deep with him. The memories of his aunt seeped into his mind as if a parasite had taken a hold of him. The flashes of the past entered without warrant, and with the memories came unseen tears that flowed freely down his cheeks. He was glad he had gone off to the store because the thought of his children seeing him like this was too horrific to think about. The wind eased itself across his skin like an embrace from his loving wife, and the thought of her sent his mind reeling back to the possibility of her being sick, and then to the thought of having to raise their children by himself. Determined to get his mind thinking positive he did something he always loved doing while flying. He took a steep dive toward the lake about 20 miles from his loving home, what he liked to do was get so close to the water that just his feet rested on the surface making it look as if he were skating on the water. He always loved doing this, he remembered back to his first date with Helene, and how her face lit up. His bare feet touched the surface of the water; he could feel the wet rippling water under his tender feet. He had fully begun to enjoy his skating when he heard the splash and scream of someone who fell in the water from a nearby pier. Thinking it was just kids at play he decided to just head for home when he hears the sound of muffled screams. Lucas kicked into concerned neighbor with superhuman abilities mode, he could hear voices. “Did you think I would let you get away with that?” Smack! “I wasn’t playing with you!” Smack! “PLEASE NO MORE” Smack! “I’ll tell you when you’ve had enough!” Smack! “Jake, please I didn’t mean to talk to her.” Someone was pleading through their tears. Smack! Lucas dived under the water after first taking a breath he may have been given the ability to fly but he could also hold his breath for a long period of time. Flying through the water was like a hot knife though butter, he quick made his way over to the two people he over heard. His heart was pumping so hard he thought it would burst then slowly let the adrenaline take over his body, making his movements seem as if they were automatic. Time seemed to slow down as he sprang from the water with a speed that was inhuman, he could see the hand of the man coming down on the woman that was cowering from the blow she expected to receive. That hit never came, Lucas saw that the attacker wasn’t paying attention, so going as fast as he could, he hit the man with all of the momentum he picked up from being freed of the water that was constricting some of his speed, knocking the man back further down the pier. “You should go get help.” Lucas said to the woman that was still cowering from the blow that wouldn’t come. The woman had her hands up so he knew there was no chance she saw his face or anything that he looked like. He took off fast in the direction of his loving home as the jubilation of saving someone flowed throughout his body driving all the negativity of the results his wife received from her doctor, and throwing a positive spin on it. He knew that they could make it through anything; they need only have each other. Whether she was sick or not he would always be by her side. It was recess at the moment, and Arhian and her friend, Tia, were lining up for food. Tia rattling on about her parents buying yet another puppy. This brought on a fresh wave on lonliness. Arhian had always wanted a puppy. It would be an ideal playmate, and she was sure that a puppy would want to play with her and explore the garden. Every year for her birthday she asked for a puppy, but never got one. It was her birthday in two days. Maybe this year... "Are you listening to me? Hello?" Tia's question brought her back to reality. "Oh, yes, sorry, just sort of spaced out for a minute," she laughed. Tia seemed satisfied with the apology and continued chattering. "So what are you planning to do for your story?" asked Tia. "I'm going to do one about my puppy going on an adventure." "Neat. I'm going to do a story on superheroes," replied Arhian. Tia rolled her eyes. "Again? You always do a story on superheroes whenever we have to write a story for class. Besides, superheroes are for boys." "No they aren't. I bet a girl could be an even better superhero than a boy." "I think you need to grow up Arhian. Superheroes only exist in stories. And they are for boys. Or maybe you are a boy. You don't look pretty enough to be a girl." Arhian stared. Had she misheard her friend? Tia had never been so rude. Without thinking she ran away, shocked. She ran outside into the playground and sat under a tree by herself, arms folded and tears welling in her eyes. She wanted Seth to be here badly, her brother always knew how to cheer her up. Seth isn't here, she told herself, and again, the lonliness came crashing down. Sam tried very hard to supress a yawn, she failed miserably. If there was one thing she tried to avoid every waking hour it was the one thing that plagued her right now. Boredom. She couldn't escape it, no matter how hard she tried. School always had a close friendship with it. So did third period math. If that was the only problem, Sam could have kept her sanity. There was no such luck in the world. Sam had second and third period with Seth, the master of depression. Add that to the fact that this stupid teacher liked seating students in alphabetical order and it equaled a nightmare for Sam. She could feel the waves of negativity push on her back from the seat behind her. The boredom plus Seth's own school time depression was driving her insane. Sam was determined to stop at least one of them. The only problem was that she had no idea how. "Would you stop that!" Sam whispered loudly at the cloud of depression behind her. She would have thought he woud improve after lunch but he was worse than in second period. She threw a rock hard pencil behind her, trying to hit him. She heard it hit the empty seat behind Seth. Sam sighed in frustration, "Stupid depressed twin,"if there was one thing in the world that irritated Sam to no end, it was the fact that she could never make something Seth could not pass through. Waves of depression and frustration radiated from her as she remembered all the failed attempts. She heard a low chuckle behind her, "well at least he's laughing...at me! Sam turned, glaring daggers at her twin. She was about to say something smart and insulting when a voice interrupted her. "Samantha," the teacher, Mr. Davis said, with what Sam thought was a slightly mocking voice, "thank you for volunteering, please come up to the board and solve this problem." "Stupid Seth, getting me in trouble," Sam mentally beat her twin since that was the only way she could hit him. She stared at the complicated math problem for nearly a minute before Mr. Davis spoke again. "Samantha, I asked you to solve it, not have a staring contest with it," eliciting a few laughs from the class. "It's not my fault you give us such complicated problems on the first day of school!" Sam yelled in her head. She wanted to say that but instead it came out as, "I don't know how, Mr. Davis." The stupid teacher smirked, "I thought as much, now go back to your seat and pay attention." Sam walked red faced back to her seat. She put her head in her hands, sighing again in frustration. "This is the worst first day ever... ############ It was at last lunch break, and Jamie pulled out the sandwich that his mother in all her blessed wisdom always gave him on a particularly difficult day, like the first back at school - Corned Beef with Ketchup. Though he enjoyed the opportunity to be amongst his peers and in an environment which suited him, Jamie still loathed some aspects like the irritating bullies, Allie's occasional childish antics and some teachers who he considered he was already so much better at their subject than, such as boring Mr Howe. Physics could be an interesting subject if there weren't such tiresome individuals as him, he thought to himself. He glanced about at his peers and felt pangs of loniness - most of his classmates saw him as 'the brainy geek kid of that weird massive family', save the odd other misfit Jamie had allied himself with to help them out. Allie was of course attempting to ignore her slightly younger brother and stare longfully at her hearthrob and best friend Dustin as Jamie was well aware to be clueless to his sister's crush on the fellow. Jamie did admittively have his own seemingly unattainable love interest - the stunningly beautiful and remarkably intelligent Rebecca Summers. She was one of those girls who was attractive and yet unaware to the fact kind of women. Her IQ was impressive to say the least - almost equal and worthy of his own. Jamie was as much in love with her mind or she was in her appearance, and he almost went on a dream trip of himself shrinking down and probing her delightful brain before he realised himself and snapped out of it. As Jamie leaned himself away from the majority next to the large stone wall which seperated the outside areas of the younger secondary from that of the older year which he resided on, he became aware of some sobbing on the other side of the wall. Since he was aware that the younger years were not yet having break he found it odd, and the crying seemed distressing and femanine enough for Jamie's galliant gentleman's side to want to intervene and investigate. He was rather at an odds as what to do - Seth might be able to simply walk through the wall, but he wasn't Seth. Glancing about and seeing that the coast was clear round this area, Jamie bent down to look about, found what he was looking for, frowned and then smiled. ############ Needless to say his older sister was not initially happy at the interruption to her conversation with her various girlfriends as she turned round to face him. "What!?" "There's something you might be interested in hearing." "When I'm less busy, Ja-" "I said, there's something you might be interested in hearing." Jamie made to be careful how much empathsis he placed on the last word, but thankfully it seemed to do the trick and he got the slightest look of recognition on Allie's face. She made up some excuse to her friends which regretfully included how dorky he was and then followed him to the same area. "What is it? You know our mum tells us to be careful how we-" "#Sigh#. Just use your power over the wall and tell me if you think what I'm thinking." Allie rolled her eyes, concetrated and then looked shocked. "That's Arhian crying." "I knew I was right. I don't know what she's crying about but..." Jamie akwardly glanced at a small hole in the wall and then back to Allie, who after a moment stared at him in horror. "No! Out of the question! What if someone sees you?" "That's what you're for. Unless you want to tag along?" "No, I've had enough bug-sized adventures for one summer, thanks." "Hey, its not my fault you got chased by that bee, you were the one who got yourself covered in pollen." Before Allie could reply he raised a hand. "We can discuss all that later, Arhian needs consoling and since Seth is too busy, I'm going to have to talk to her. Watch my back, I can't be late for class." Jamie dropped his backpack, moved right next to the tiny hole and concentrated. To describe what shrinking felt like would be difficult. Jamie tended to say (and though who had shared the experience agreed) that it was like he was falling without taking his feet off the Earth. It had been disorting the first few times when he started some ten years ago, but now it was almost second nature. When Jamie felt he was the right size he opened his eyes. Sure enough the hole was now large enough for him with some effort to get to the other side, and in the distance behind him he could see the now towering form of his older sister, her legs reaching up into the sky. He estimated he had reached about 1/2 an itch tall, making his sister about the size of a cruise liner as far as he was concerned. The short turfs of grass were now a large jungular barrier, and taking care to see if any insect predators were about, Jamie crawled through the wall and out onto the other side. Thankfully the tree which his little (a rather pooor expression right now of course) sister was by human standards only a couple of metres away, but by poor Jamie it would easily take a good hour at his current perspective. Fortunately there was no one else about so Jamie was able to risk some level of growth until his towering little sobbing sister was now more a blue whale than a wole horde of them. The now mouse sized Jamie risked prodding her in her leg flesh slightly and waited as she stopped her sobbings and looked down. "J-Jamie? Is that you?" Jamie often found that human beings seemed to have a bit of a resounding effect in their voices when he had shrunk, the more so the smaller he was, and at present his sister Arhian had something of the sort. "Yeah, its me. Me and Allie heard you crying so I thought I'd pop over and seeing how you were doing. What's the matter, hey?" He was surprised to see a light laugh come from Arhian's lips. "What's so funny." "He he! Sorry... its just that you always have a speaky voice when you're small. It suits you." Jamie rolled his eyes at that but was at least happy to hear her giggle. She put her left palm down on the ground and he climbed onto it before she brought him to her tearful face. "Anyway... it was one of my friends. Or who I thought was my friend. She said some horrible things about me and how I was a boy for liking superheroes and-" "Hey Arhian, there is nothing wrong with you sis." Jamie affectionly prodded her big thumb before continuing. "If the kids think you're weird, then they're no different. Everyone's got a gift, sis - you're is just a bit more restricted, thats all." He saw her frown. "You and Allie, are using your powers." "Erm... well thats true, But I'm only using them to check up on you. When class finishes, you and me and Seth and Mum will make you feel better, alright?" He saw his sister nod, but just as she was about to respond he heard a loud voice in the distance. "Arhian Garrison! What are you doing!" In the distance a stern-faced junior teacher was headed their way, and his sister paniced as she realised she was still holding him in her hand. Jamie was thankfully used to being careful, and gave her a quick wink before jumping onto the grass and rushing towards the hole. He managed a quick shrink, reaching the correct size by the time he was there. Turning round he saw that a worried Arhian was telling her story to the teacher, then he crawled back into the senior area. Allie was clearly bored and jumped slightly when he reverted to normal size. "Thank god, I've been waiting for like ever!" She then spoke in a more caring tone. "Is sis ok?" "Yeah, she's just had a rough first day like all of us. Come on, we've both got history next." He grabbed his backpack as his sister stared back at him, a bemused look on her face. "What is it?" "You were running through the grass, right?" "Yyyeah, but wh-?" His words faded as to her horror he realised that patches of mud and dirt were all over his once clean school outfit. "Oh darn it!" He bore the brunt of his sister's laughter all the way to the classroom while he tried to clean himself up. This had been an odd first day thus far. Seth sighed as fourth period ended. Sam rushed out after him. "Will you please stop being so mopey? Your sending me all sorts of bad mojo." "Sorry." He apologized. "Well... as long as you stop I guess I can forgive you." She said, then smiled. "Hehe, look! Allie and her boyfriend Dustin." Sam giggled. "Like you don't have a crush on that Jason Anderson guy." Seth said as he exchanged a book in his locker. "You can't blame me for being attracted to him. He has the whole school's girl population under his finger!" "Which is why I think your wasting your time." Seth said. "What's that supposed to mean?" Sam frowned at him. "He's a total player! You don't really want to be with someone like that." Sam's face was red. "How about you leave that decision to me? Gosh Seth! Why do you have to be such a jerk?" She yelled, then spun and hurried off in the other direction. Seth put his hand to his face and sighed again. He was just trying to look out for his sister... Seth was about to head back to class, but he decided that Sam was probably too mad to see him right now. Besides, he wanted to check up on Arhian. Jamie had sent him a glance when he passed that showed that she needed him. Seth walked through the wall and found Arhian sitting by the tree she went to when she wanted to be alone. It wasn't her first choice, but her back up tree, because usually the teachers wanted her to be closer to the campus. "Hey." He smiled. Her face shot up, and so did she, as she launched herself into his arms. He could tell that she had been crying. "Are you alright?" He asked. "Yeah." She sniffled and tried to straighten her facial features. "What happened?" He asked as he smoothed a piece of her hair out of the way. She sighed. "My friend was just being a jerk. She says I'm not girly because I like superheroes." Seth laughed. "Thats stupid." "I know." She wiped her cheek and laughed a little too. "And you are most definitely a girl." He smiled as he touched her small earring. "I'm glad you decided to come." She said. "Jamie checked on you, didn't he?" Seth asked. "Yeah. He and Allie totally used their powers... but I guess you did too." Seth was quiet for a minute while he thought. "Hey... want some ice cream? There's that store down the street..." "You mean ditch?" She asked. "Uh... yeah, your probably right. Its only the first day, so-" "No, I want to!" "Okay, then lets go." Seth said. Sure, he would get in trouble, but his sister was worth it. Besides, the teachers were used to him skipping out, and taking Arhian with him. Allie was ready and waiting at the front of the school long before her other siblings showed up, tapping her foot, annoyed. The sun was glaring straight at her and not warming her up a bit, just making it halfway impossible to see. Sam, peppy and chattering with one of her girlfriends, had set her stuff down by Allie's feet and then gone off with aforementioned friend, leaving Allie feeling slightly like her sister's keeper, which she most definitely was not. The two moved as though they were out of Allie's hearing range, though Sam knew better, and knew Allie could hear every word they were uttering. Jamie slunk over at some point, And it looked as though Seth and Arhian would be finding their own way home. Their mother hadn't shown up yet- why, Allie didn't know. She just wanted to get home and away from this frickin' school. She didn't want to spend anymore time here than she had to. If Jamie could tell something was bothering her, he didn't say anything directly. "Seth and Arhian have set a new record," he remarked. "Couldn't even stand one whole day at school." Allie glared at him and then sighed, thumping her backpack down on the grass next to Sam's. "Jamie, as oldest kid in this family-" Jamie glared and made something sort of like a growl. Allie rolled her eyes and continued. "-and you as the second oldest, I think you should know something. But we can't worry the younger kids about it. And mom and dad definitely can't know. Got it?" Jamie looked as though he was considering and then nodded slightly. He was curious, and his curiosity always won out. "I heard mom and dad talking today. it sounded like they were in the garden," Allie whispered, dropping her tone so only he could hear. "You know I usually tune them out, since they usually talk about stuff like groceries and whatever, but their conversation caught me today in Physics." She bit her lip. She didn't like listening in on her parents' conversations. She didn't exactly like listening into others' conversations, unless it served her purposes. But she couldn't have tuned this conversation out if she wanted to. And normally her hearing didn't even extend that far, it was just her strong connection to her parents. Allie was fairly sure that she would be able to hear any of her family members at a very far away distance, solely because they were her family, and they were important to her. Not that she would admit that aloud. "Jamie, they think mom has cancer." © Copyright 2009 Wiskers, FarynKatz: NaNoWriMo crazed!, LdyPhoenix, Lonewolf - Catching up, `lemur`, Taiah, Albireo Dreamweaver, Derek the Dalek, (known as GROUP).
