| [Introduction]
Congratulations! You have just graduated from the Star Fleet Academy, and have been assigned to the new patrol ship, the USS Harmony. But its going to be a lot harder than thought. With traitors and lies as deep as they can get, its hard to trust anyone. And now, a new threat is approaching. A currently unknown species that seem hostile in their intentions has just arrived, and don't seem to be taking friendly to our attempts to communicate with them. The Earth is counting on you. ---- -Please write reasonably sized additions -Most of my general rules for campfires apply (no swearing, etc.) -You do not need to be an expert on Star Trek to join the CC. I don't even know that much. Obviously Star Trek experts are invited as well. If your not sure what to do, just check in Star Trek in Wikkipidia. -You have four days to add -Have fun! |
Okay, only a few people have accepted, so I am going to just start the story. Like me, please put in a bio as well as your first "real" addition. ----- Name: Syvin (Vulcan's rarely use their last name) Race: Vulcan Appearance: Similar to all Vulcans, having a tall stature, slanted eyebrows and pointed ears. (Pretty much like this guy http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/53/Spock-B_Stacey.jpg) Age: 23 ----- Syvin stood in the crowd of Star Fleet graduates, motionless, not sticking out in the slightest. Admiral Grant Herrem had called a meeting and was standing up on a stage. "As you all know, today is not only graduation day, but the day we reveal the Star Fleet's newest ship. Everyone? The USS Harmony." The man motioned behind him, and a curtain was pulled back to reveal the picture of the ship. A collective gasp came from everyone, except Syvin, who wasn't used to displaying such outward expressions of emotion. It indeed was beautiful, Syvin admitted to himself. But beauty was not its purpose. It was designed to keep the United Federation of Planets and everyone under its protection safe. "The United Federation of Planets and the Star Fleet Academy are proud to give you our newest invention towards the stabilization and safety of the galaxy." Everyone clapped, and the Vice Principal of the academy stood from her chair and walked to the Admiral. "I am proud of all of you students." The elderly woman said, smiling. "If anyone has what it takes, its you all. You will make the universe a better place." "Now, a ship cant fly itself, can it?" The Admiral laughed. "It is an honor announce the crew who will be flying the Harmony." He took out a data pad, and got ready to read the names. Race: Betaziod Appearance: His appearance is pretty much like this:(http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/library/aliens/article/70556.html) with black medium length hair. not to mention his normal starfleet uniform. Age: 23 ---- Standing with all the other students excited over the new ship being revealed, Xatroni, or Xat as his fellow peers called him tried to block all the feelings coming his way from every direction. It was maddening as it was that he was having this joyous sensation creep all over his body, but also feeling the deep sense of worry from the Admiral his attempt to block the emotions failed. Xatroni could hear the the cheers and commotion but wasn't really paying attention to what is being said when he felt a tap on his shoulder. "Xat, the Admiral just called your name. You're going to be on the USS-Harmany." The tap on the shoulder came from a fellow classmate by the name of Syvin. Xat liked Syvin because unlike everyone else his emotions were under control. He was always able to get along with Syvin because being around him helped him control the rate at which the emotions of so many came at him, it was like Xat tapped into Syvin's vulcan like ways. "Have you been chosen as well?" Xat asked his long time friend. "Indeed, we shall serve together." It always amazed Xat how Syvin could always act straight and natural without showing much emotion during an emotional event. The names were still being called off, and Xat wondered who would be called next. Name: Chakotay Race: Human Appearance: Here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chakotay Age: 26 ---- "And I suppose you all want to know who the big man is gonna be don't you?" The admiral asked the crew and still assembled graduates. They all murmured their assent. "Then it is my pleasure to present to you Chakotay, formerly captain of the Val Jean, returned to us now for this mission." A tall, dark native american man stepped into the room from the door behind the admiral. Many of the (human) females in the crowd sighed their appreciation of his good looks, while many of the men were fascinated by the tattoo that took up most of his face. "Good afternoon! My name is Commander Chakotay. I'll be serving as captain on this new Galaxy-class starship, and will be pleased to be serving with you all. Will my chiefs of staff please meet me in my ready room at 1800 hours promptly this evening for their briefing. To the rest of you, good luck." He granted the assembled crowd a smile then turned back and walked back the way he had come. Race: Half Human/Half Ktarian Appearance: Her appearance is much like this http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Image:Naomi2394.jpg with a few minor changes. Kutara's skin is tanner and her hair about two shades darker to appear more deep auburn. Also, her eyes are slightly more Ktarian (feline) in appearance. Age: 24 --- Kutara stood back away from the crowds as she waited with the graduates for the names of the new crew to be called. Her arms were crossed firmly over her chest, her fingers tapping a rapid tattoo on her forearm - a subtle sign of her nervousness. "You have nothing to fear, Kutura." The Talaxian woman at her side rested a comforting arm around her shoulders. "Your name will be called." Kutara bit her lip in uncertainty. "It may not be possible. With the rocky relations between the Ktarians and the Federation, they may feel it would not be wise to have a Ktarian, even a hybrid, on their new starship." Dula frowned at the girl she had come to know as a daughter. "Kutara," she said reassuringly. "Your parents have been loyal members of the Federation for years. Your father has served under the Admiral before with high marks. Furthermore, you have outstanding recommendations." Dule gave Kutara a rare smile. "This worrying is foolishness." Kutara opened her mouth to further argue the point when her name poured from the Admiral's lips. A thrill went straight through her body, but she contained herself to a small grin. Feeling a presence behind her, Kutara turned to find a Vulcan and Betazoid looking in her direction. After an assessing glance, she gave them a nod of greeting and congratulations. They returned it with severe politeness. Such formal appearances, Kutara thought with slight amusement. I wonder what the other crew members will be like. Syvin was walking down the hall when Xat intercepted him. "So, this is actually happening." Xat said, seeming sort of awestruck, now walking beside his friend. "We're going into space!" "That we are." Syvin said, his hands placed easily behind his back. "Their jealous." Xat said, leaning near to Syvin to be quieter as they passed a few people standing by. "Its only to be expected." Syvin said. "Human's are quite irrational." When he finished the sentence the smallest sign of a smile could be seen on the corner of his mouth. "And did you see our captain?" Xat continued. "Chakotay. I remember hearing stories about him. He's one of the best captains around, I think." "Then we should be..." Syvin paused, unsure of what to say. "Grateful." Xatroni said, smiling and bumping Syvin on the shoulder. "We really need to work on your people skills, pal. Oh! I just forgot! I still need to finish packing up my stuff. I'll see you at the briefing." Xat hurried off towards his room. Syvin walked over to the large window and looked out at the Golden Gate bridge. The sky was an almost perfect blue, with no clouds in sight. Action was happening behind the Vulcans eyes, but no one could tell if it was emotion or just logical thought. And beyond that perfect sky, lay the vast realm of outer space. Where he and a few others would find themselves shortly. And somewhere in the never ending black, lay his planet. Something else shined behind his dark eyes as he thought of his home, so far away. Suddenly Syvin felt the presence of someone near him. He turned to see the Ktarian woman, Kutara. "Uh, hi." She said, slowly advancing until she was at the window to. A smile spread across her face as she overlooked the clean air and beautiful, if not practical, training areas. "Its everyones dream here, isn't it?" She said, looking at him. "What is?" Syvin asked. "To, you know-" She waved around one arm, trying to find the right expression. "-be out in space, defend the galaxy!" "Yes, I suppose it is." He replied. She seemed sort of put out and maybe even a little sad at his lack of emotion. "So, I should be happy." Kutara sighed and looked down, biting her lip. Syvin straightened, his eyes now back to the sky. "You are afraid that you will not fit in." He said, feeling her emotions without having to mind-meld. She looked up at him as he continued. "That because of who you are, you will not be accepted." He paused. "Is this not correct?" "No... it is." Kutara seemed a little bashful. "You are worrying over the wrong thing." He said. "And what would be the right thing?" She asked. "You are worried that because of what you are, you will be rejected. It does not matter what you are. It only matters who you are." She seemed to be thinking over the words. "I'm... going to go get ready for the briefing-" She pointed her thumb behind her. "It was... nice talking to you." Syvin nodded in response. "It will be an honor serving with you." He turned back to the window after she was out of sight. What he had said was true. He'd thought about it long before this day had even come. Vulcan's were known for their smart, quick, logical thinking. But... not their hearts. That gave him something to think about. While on my way to the room I came across Commander Chakotay, he seemed to be in deep conversation with The Admiral. I got the feeling there was an adventure coming soon and Commander Chakotay was excited to get on with the mission we would be getting soon. When I got to my room, it was still half a mess with all my things out of order. I had come to love this room with all my things I acquired over my years here, but my future was changing and for the better I would be on board the new Star ship and I was half excited and half worried about where this would take us. I wonder what position I’m going to have on the ship. I’m well versed in many things mostly combat, but I Syvin would make a good Number one to the commander, but maybe I’ll have that position. I guess I’ll just find out when we actually board the ship. Upon packing my last item in my chest, a baseball, my heart sank at the thought of having to bury my dear friend who had mentored me when I was just starting Star fleet academy Jake Sisko. After everything was packed, I made my way to the transporter meeting up with Syvin when I got there. Kutara glanced up from her duffel bag to see Dula standing in the doorway, a small smile dancing on her lips. Trying to hide her embarrassment, she zipped the bag firmly closed and took a seat at the edge of the bed with a neutral expression on her face. Sorting and organizing had always been her way of calming nervousness. It was a telling habit she could hide from most people. Except, of course, her oldest friend. Dula stepped inside Kutara's quarters and took a seat next to the girl, wrapping a comforting arm around her shoulders. "Your paranoia has always been one of your more charming qualities." Kutara frowned, bringing attention to the sharp ridges of her forehead. "I'm not paranoid, just extremely...cautious. The schedule from our return hasn't been announced yet." "Its just a room, Kutara," Dula replied as she noted the young girl's troubled glances around the possessions being left behind. "They do not make up who you are." "Everybody's a philosopher today," she murmured, looking down at her feet. "What was that?" Kutara chuckled softly. "Nothing, just some advice I got today from a fellow crew member." "Already making friends." Dula patted her on the shoulder in reassurance. "Wonderful progress." "I'll need all I can get." Grabbing her two bags off the floor and throwing them over her shoulder, Kutara took a slow turn around her quarters. Most of her life had been spent there. So much time. So many memories. How she would miss this place. "You'll be fine." Kutara forced a smile. "I'll be excellent." "Be good out there in deep space." Dula embraced her in a soft hug, fighting back the tears she knew made Kutara uncomfortable. Kutara hugged back, tightening her grip. "Be careful, okay? Once I'm gone you'll have no one to defend you from Brax's affections." Dula laughed. "I think I can handle him." "I have to go," Kutara said after a moment, stepping back to gather her composure, her spine straight. "I...Thank you. For always looking out for me...I'll make you proud, I promise." Before Dula could response Kutara was out the door with her belongings. Overcome, she sat down on the narrow bed, trying to come to grips with the little Ktarian girl see met all those years ago, growing up into an intelligent woman headed out to space. "You've already made me proud, Kutara." Race: Klingon Appearance: Dark skin; bushy, waist length hair pulled back in a ponytail; stands at 6'3; ridged forehead. Age: 25 _______ "Mother, please, stop fussing. I have everything." K'Heliar looked at her human mother. Even though she was adopted, she loved her parents. her father, George, grabbed Emily by the waist. "K'Heliar is right Em. She is ready for this." Emily huffed. "She may be ready, but I'm not. Don't get me wrong dear, I am proud of you, just... I'm not ready to give up my little girl!" K'Heliar gave her mother a hug, simply to comfort the woman. she let go and grabbed her one suitcase. "Promise, for your mother's sake, that you will be safe?" K'Heliar nodded. "I love you both. and I promise, I will stay as safe as I possibly can. It won't be easy working in security and all, but I'll try my best." Emily was in tears, and so K'Heliar had to give one more hug to her before she left for the shuttle. When she got to the shuttle, she found the only spot left and sat down. She wasn't here to make friends, but to expand the boundries of the Federation, and to help prove Klingon loyalty. Yeah, Worf had done most of the work, but someone had to help establish it. The human by her acknowledged her, and continued talking to her friend. K'Heliar took a deep breath and exhaled. This is what she had been waiting for nearly her whole life. Syvin had just left the briefing room. They had been told only the basics, and nothing specific. They didn't even know what exactly their mission was! Strange, but not entirely suspicious. If it was important, it had best be revealed out in space, where there was no turning back. Not that Syvin expected many to turn tail; but they were humans. Most of them anyway... Xatroni had gone of galavanting somewheres; he'd been so eager to get on the ship. Syvin decided to go to the medical bay, to make sure everything was in order. No need for more deaths than could be avoided... Suddenly someone bumped into him. He turned to see a Klingon female, bending hurriedly to pick up a data pad she'd dropped when she'd backed into him. "I apologize." He said. "Uh, sorry! I mean, no problem." She pushed a strand of hair out of her face and smiled. A few people looked at her coldly, but she seemed to be ignoring them. It was only recently that the Klingons had made an alliance with the Federation, and many people doubted their allegiance. "I'm K'Heliar. The new security chief." She said, shifting the data pad to her other hand and extending her arm. Syvin shook it politely. "Ah yes, I believe I've heard of you. The Captain was adamant about you on his ship." She seemed surprised and delighted. "R-really?" "Yes." He said as he slid his card through the med by door. "I think it a logical choice. This could help to improve our relations with your species." "O-oh." She looked down. Something beeped on her belt and she answered. "K'Heliar. Yes. No I told you, don't cross it with the main converter or we lose our shielding!" She covered turned quickly and stormed down the hall. "Do you want to have your blood boil inside of you when we leave the atmosphere?!" Syvin looked after her for a moment then entered the med bay. He went through the lists of all the supplies they were supposed to have, and checked them off one by one. Everything appeared to be in order. Things rarely turned out to be what they seemed however. K'Heliar wanted to slam her forehead against the control panel, but used some self control and dragged the boy to her quarters. All he had done was ignore the two orders she had given him, but she knew that small issues like that could wind up being big problems. "Sit." K'Heliar commanded. The boy just looked around the room. Fool she thought to herself. She then put her hand on his shoulder and forced him into the chair nearby. That got his attention. "What?" he snapped. "Look, I know that you don't like me, and that you probably don't like Klingons in general. However, being your commander, you're going to have to put aside your hate for me and do what I tell you or else we may all die. Is that understood?" "Nope." K'Heliar sighed, and leaned towards his face until they were merely millimeters apart. She could now practically smell his fear. "Let's put it this way then. I don't care what you think of me. However, I do care about how you treat me and your fellow crew mates. If you don't want commit suicide and let others die as you commit suicide, then I would strongly suggest that you do what I tell you to do. The only time you may disobey me is when the Captain tells you something different. Is that understood?" "Yes m'am." She leaned back. "Good. I'm glad that we reached this point. Who knows, maybe you'll learn that I'm halfway decent. So, what are your duties?" "Guard the south end of Deck 14 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 0800 to 1600 and to check the weaponry Monday Afternoon." "Glad you did catch those. Now, if you'll excuse me, I should have been on the bridge a few moments ago." "Yes m'am." They both left the compartment, and K'Heliar headed towards the bridge. Soon, their not-so-subtle stares began to push her beyond the breaking point. She would endure the stares in due time but not today - they're first day. She needed this to go as smoothly as possible. She didn't want to be the freak child on this new beginning. With data pad in hand, left her assigned deck and headed out to explore more of the U.S.S. Harmony. She did her best to attempt to memorize every passage, every gate, every sector. It would take time, but it was also imperative. Who knew when that information would come in handy during an emergency. Passing through an entry way she saw the Vulcan she had met earlier standing in the medical bay. Her first instinct was to wave, but as soon as her hand shot up she put it down by her side. Even though he was one of the few people she knew on the ship, she didn't want to make a fool of herself any more than she already had. Still, as if sensing her embarrassment, he look up from his supplies and gazed at her. Not sure what to do she smiled broadly. He simply stared back, nodding slightly acknowledging her presence. Dear planets... Kutara waved back swiftly before rushing down the passage. What was she thinking? She should be memorizing the passageways. She should be meeting other crew members. Why was she embarrassing herself in such a- Wham! Kutara found herself colliding into an extremely tall Klingon woman and falling to the floor. The woman looked down at her in what seemed like contempt and lifted her off the ground by the forearm. She did her best to recover, dusting off her uniform and retrieving her data pad, while trying to formulate an appropriate response. "Be careful where you step," the Commander said. "These passages are difficult to navigate when you're not paying attention." There was a note of sympathy in her voice. Kutara took the opening with the little self-respect she had at the moment. "I'm sorry, Commander K'Heliar." "You know my name?" "Yes, Commander. You're reputation at the academy was exemplary." Kutara took a deep breath and firmly stuck out her hand, proud her fingers didn't shake in the process. "It's an honor to be serving with you." The Commander look at her hand for a moment before shaking it. Her grip was firm and strong. Kutara did her best not to wince. "You have no problem serving with a Klingon?" Kutara smiled, a small giggle forming in the back of her throat. She suppressed it with all her might. Why did authority do this to her? "No, Commander. That would be a bit hypocritical given my circumstances, would it not?" "Indeed." "If you ever need an engineering hand, I am at your service." "That goes without saying." Surprising Kutara, Commander K'Heliar smiled down at her. "I think I'm going to like you..." Kutara watched as the Commander walked her way to the bridge, taking a deep sigh of relief. Maybe she hadn't screwed up after all. © Copyright 2009 Wiskers, Lonewolf - Catching up, Albireo Dreamweaver, LdyPhoenix, Bumble Bee, (known as GROUP). All rights reserved.
