The Animal Within
People infused with animal DNA have to team up to save the world.

[Introduction] There was an experimental program established a few years ago, that would help sick babies survive. The doctors infused the fetuses with animal DNA to balance out whatever was ailing them. It worked nicely... perhaps too nicely. Now the people are finding that they have animal traits and can sometimes even "grow" certain animal parts! But maybe it was fate, for now the world is at risk from a new threat...

RULES

-No cursing, sex, or graphic violence please!
-You have four days to add
-Have fun!
Wiskers

Name: Abella “Bell” Lafayette

Age: 15

Appearance: Abella is the average height of a fifteen-year-old girl, but is perhaps skinnier. She has porcelain skin, azure blue eyes, and layered blonde hair that goes to her shoulders.

Clothing: Abella often wears summery skirts and blouses with white tights and gray suede boots that go a little higher than her ankles. She always has a pink ribbon in her hair.

DNA Fused With: The common household cat. She can grow white cat ears and a tail. Has the agility and good senses of a cat. Can also turn her fingernails to “points”, like claws.

|----------------------|

(I’m also going to play one of the… opposing characters, if you will. XD)

Name: Matthew Kincaid

Age: 18

Appearance: Matthew is lean and handsome. He has beautiful hazel eyes, and sandy blond hair.

Clothing: Matthew always wears jeans, converse, a t-shirt, a leather armband, and a black jacket.

DNA Fused With: Anaconda. Has a ridiculous amount of muscle power, and can grow fangs. (They aren't poisonous, but they'll still hurt!) He also is very good at sneaking quietly around and can sense body heat.

Other: Is from Scotland, so he has a Scottish accent.

FarynKatz: NaNoWriMo crazed!    Name: Rachael Clark

Age: 18

Appearance: Tall and lanky, with huge brown eyes and platinum blonde hair.

Clothing: Rachael often wears clothing with earthy colors, greens and brons and whites, sometimes greys and blues. Mostly modest clothing, but sometimes you can catch her in a dress.

DNA Fused with: Minahassa Barn Owl. She stays up late, and has amazing vision that can also help her see in the dark. Because of this fusion, she is also able to turn her head a lot more than a normal human, and at different angles. She also has no qualms about heights, so roller coasters/sky diving/climbing tall mountains are fun. Also, if she were to be pushed off a building, she wouldn't be too badly hurt- she's resourceful enough to find a way down safely.

Other: She's just recently come to the 'good side'. Other members give her space and sometimes maybe treat her like an outsider. She knows some of them don't trust her. She's had ins and outs with the 'dark side' including a tragic past love.

Wiskers
Abella flipped idly through her magazine as she sat in the train. It was a fashion magazine, and Abella just adored looking over all the pretty things. One day she might want to make such things herself. Yes, maybe she would.

"This is the Town Square, station 12. Next stop Office District, station 13."

Abella put the magazine in her messenger bag, and stood, getting ready to leave when the door opened.

This bag was one of her designs. It was made of denim, and she had ironed on some badges that had daisy's on it.

She kept all her important things in it. Like her cellphone, her sketchbook, her wallet, her lipgloss and nail polish...

She held her hand out in front of her as she walked through the station.

Her nails were a shimmery pink. The bottle had claimed that it had real crushed opals in it, and thats why it was so sparkly, but since it wasn't expensive she doubted it. Because, despite her likes, Abella really never spent that much money.

She shaded her eyes from the sun when she left the station. Goodness it was bright at this time of day...

The warm rays on her face made her want to take a nap, but she resisted the urge. She'd already napped twice today.

"You know, sometimes being a cat just isn't worth it." She thought as she crossed the street.

The sound of tinkling bells met her ears as she opened the door of a small cafe.

Rachael turned her head and Abella caught eyes with her friend.

"Hey, Bell." Rachael smiled at her.

"Hi Rach!" Abella jumped into the seat next to the girl with platinum hair and large brown eyes. Rachael had just "changed sides" so to speak, from people who did bad, to people who did good. A lot of people who knew what she had been didn't trust her, but she and Abella had become almost immediate friends.

"I thought you might have forgot that you were going to meet me here. You fell asleep last time, remember?"

"I know, I know!" Abella laughed. "But you have no idea how hard it is to be a cat." She shook her head and took a sip of water.
"I mean, you like to stay up late. I have a hard time making it past noon!"

"Its alright." Rachael said smiling.

"Hey!" Abella started so fast she almost knocked over her glass of water. "I have the new designs for you!"

She reached into her bag and pulled out her sketch book, which was already open to a page with a flowing dress in blues, browns, and yellows. She handed it to Rachael.

"Wow, Bell. This is really pretty!" Rachael lightly went over it with a finger. "But do you really think I'll look good in a dress? I mean, I never wear them..."

"Sure you would!" Abella said. "And I know you don't usually wear that stuff, but I thought this might make you want to." She smiled.

"If this was real, I would wear it." Her friend handed it back to her, and she put it back in her bag.

"Hopefully one day I'll have enough money to go to design school. Then I could make for you." Abella said.

"Can I get you ladies something?" A waiter asked them.

"Yes please! I would like a strawberry shortcake... and some English tea, too." Abella turned to Rachael. "Do you want anything?"

"Uh... I'll just have some of the English tea as well." Rachael said.

"Alright, you got it." The waiter smiled and headed off.

"Thanks!" Rachael said.

"Merci!"

Abella's family was French, but since she was raised here she didn't have an accent, although sometimes she spoke French without realizing it.

"Now, about that thing I was going to get you..." Rachael looked down.

"Oh no! They didn't have it?"

"No, they did!" Rachael looked up and smiled, extending her hand and dropping something small and light into Bell's hands.

"Oh my... its absolutely beautiful!" Abella looked fondly at the small silver cat charm in her palm. "Now you can have yours!" She reached into her bag once more and brought out a small silver charm in the shape of an owl and handed it to Rachael. "Although I'm not exactly sure why you couldn't have just taken it last week..."

"No." Rachael started. "I couldn't take a charm without giving you one. I mean, its our friendship bracelets, remember? Then we'd be all... uneven." She smiled.

"I'm going to put mine on!" Abella said, undoing her bracelet so she could attach the small charm to it.

She looked at it once it was back on her wrist. "Pretty."

"Mines nice too..." Rachael's eyes glistened as she overlooked the new charm.

"Here you go, strawberry shortcake, and English Breakfast tea." The waiter put the tea cups and the small cake in front of them.

Abella took some sugar and put it into her tea. "Do you want some?"

"Nah." Rachael said as she just put some cream in instead. "Thank goodness its Friday, right?"

"I know!" Abella said, then took a bite of her shortcake. "I didn't think I was going to make it through the week!"

Abella and Rachael were friends, but they went to different schools.

"So... we still going to the park?"

Abella looked up. The park was really just a wooded area nearby where they practiced their abilities and just messed around.

"Yeah, I mean I want to." She scratched her head. "I've been having the strong urge to climb a tree lately."

Rachael laughed. "I've been having the urge to jump out of a tree."

"So, can we go after this?" Abella asked.

FarynKatz: NaNoWriMo crazed!    Though she was three years older than Abella, Rachael couldn't help but love the half cat. She was always on the move- well, except for when she was napping. But other than that she was pretty exciting, and times with Bell were always interesting.

She was also the only person who trusted Rachael. That made sense, but it was still a blow to Rachael's confidence: If no one believed she had really made a turn for the better, could she sincerely believe it herself?

"Yeah, sure. Once I finish my tea we'll go," she said, jumping back into the conversation.

"What's up, Rach? You're distracted," Bella asked, taking a bite of her shortcake.

Rachael leaned across the table and grabbed her own forkful from her friend's plate. "I might be, I suppose." she said with a smile. "But I'm just in my own little world. There's nothing wrong."

She knew Abella wouldn't believe her, but whether the fifteen-year-old would press the issue was what was yet to be determined.

"My cake," the half cat said, playfully shielding her cake from Rachael's probing fork. "But seriously, Rach. Were you thinking about 'him'?

Rachael felt her heart beat faster. "Him?" she asked, her mouth dry. She took a sip of her English tea but it didn't help much, just the heat slipping down her throat.

"Yeah. That guy you write about in that notebook of yours," Abella said, avoiding Rachael's gaze as she picked at what was left of her shortcake.

How did Abella know about him? Had she read the notebook? Bell didn't seem like the kind of girl to go against the trust Rachael had given her in turn for acceptance and friendship.

Bell held her palms up as if confessing. "I swear, Rach, I didn't read much of it! You fell asleep on it and I thought it might be important . . . I didn't want the words to get smudged or anything," she said.

Rachael shook her head. "No, Bell, it's okay. Thanks for picking it up, though. It's really nothing, just a story I'm writing." In truth it was her recollection of those painful days she'd spent in darkness. Though the eighteen-year-old still had anguish over them nearly every night when she wasn't sleeping, they had also been wonderful, beautiful days spent in his arms.

But Rachael shoved those thoughts away and smiled at Bell. "Can I read it?" the girl asked excitedly. She always got overenthusiastic when new projects were started by either her or Rach.

"Maybe when I'm done," she answered, though she would remain adamant that no one ever lay eyes on it but her.

Seeing a gap in Abella's protection, she picked up her fork and tried to snag a last bite of shortcake. Bell shrieked and tried to cover the rest of her dish, knocking over Rachael's half empty tea.

"Oh!" both girls gasped, and Bell started to blush. Rachael grabbed a handful of napkins and started to clean up. "No, no, it's my job, I'll get it," a waiter said, rushing over and mopping up the mess.

"Sorry, Rach," Bell said, still blushing lightly. "It's okay. Let's go," Rachael answered, setting fifteen dollars on their table and hoisting her bag onto her shoulder.

"Lead the way."

LdyPhoenix    Name: Dirk Yilmaz

Age: 17

Appearance: Dirk stands close to 5’9” with a lean build, sharp facial features, and tan. His eyes are a golden brown as well as his hair, which is in need of a trim as its hanging in his line of vision. From an accident when he was younger Dirk wears specially made thin framed glasses to help with his sight.

Clothing: Dirk's main purpose is to work in the shadows so he sticks to dark clothing: cargo pants, a hooded shirt, a sweatshirt, and combat boots.

DNA Fused With: A hyena. Dirk finds that he doesn’t change into the hyena, but retains certain characteristics of the animal including the strength of his jaw (can easily crush through bone), sharp teeth with slightly longer canines, speed and endurance to run long distances, and hunting instincts.

Other: His parents are immigrants from Turkey who came to the United States for the experimental treatment while his mother was still pregnant with him. Currently, he is in a position to work for the “opposing side” (lol) although his feelings toward the situation are still uncertain.

Dirk stood in a dark corner across the street from a small cafe, close to invisible to everyone who passed. His target sat chatting with another girl, and from the way they communicated to one another, he could sense they were close. By his approximation of her skills, Dirk choose to stay a safe distance away. The last thing he needed was to be detected.

The sun shone warmly against his neck as he surveyed the happy scene before him. Not once did he think of moving. Not once did he ever think of turning away from his course. Dirk's mission was set and concrete, leaving any of his desires mute. It was an existence he was still trying to come to terms with.

His target and her friend stood up from their table making motions to leave when Dirk felt the vibration of his cell phone in his pocket. Not taking his eyes away, Dirk listened to the voice on the other side.

"Has the target still in sight?"

"Yes. I've been successfully tracking her for several days."

"Proceed with the second phase of the mission."

Dirk frowned slightly. "That would be unwise."

"Explain," spoke the mechanical voice in curt tones.

"The target is quite aware of the opposing forces. To try to initiate what you're proposing would be seen with great suspicion at best. And, to be frank, I lack to the social skills to overcome that suspicion. It would be better to wait for a sufficient opening and enter the situation in a time of duress or uncertainty."

A poignant pause followed his statement. "Continue with tracking. You will be contacted with further instructions by the end of the day."

"Understood."

Dirk placed the cell phone securely in his pocket as he stealthily followed his target and her companion. Unaware, a small smirk marked the corners of his mouth. It was a sight many would fear.

"Yes!" Abella cried happily as she released her cat ears and tail.

She jumped into the lower branches of a tree.

"I love the park!" She let herself fall off the branch backwards, but kept her legs on it so she ended up hanging upside down.

Her skirt almost went to her face.

"Whoops!" She held it down and jumped off, laughing.

"You really should be more careful..." Rachael said as she continued to climb steadily up another tree. "You don't want someone to see you, do you?"

"I don't really mind much actually." Abella said as she tucked a golden strand of hair behind her ear. "I have tights on, and my underwear's cute."

Rachael laughed. "I meant your powers, not your bloomers... silly!"

"Ooh..." Abella jumped in another tree, and held on to the trunk for support. "When do you have to go home? Do you think my mom is making spaghetti like she always does on Fridays?"

"I think so... but we just ate!"

"But I'm hungry." Abella said, making her eyes large and pitiful.

"Your always hungry." Rachael smiled.

"I know." Abella smiled as her hair was carried slightly by the breeze. "I think a have a super fast meti... metah-" Abella struggled.

"Metabolism?"

"Yes, that would be the word I'm looking for." Abella laughed. "And besides, you didn't really eat... other than stealing some of my cake!" She jumped from her tree to the one Rachael was perched on and frightened her friend.

Rachael fell, and as they were about twenty feet in the air, might be considered dangerous... but not for her.

She landed gracefully, then frowned up at Abella. "Bell! Someone could have seen!"

"Seen you fall out of the tree? Ha ha! You really need to work on your balance!" Abella snorted.

----

But someone had seen.

Matthew walked so quietly, he couldn't even hear himself. Which was saying something...

He leaned his head close to the young man in front of him until he was at his ear.

"Hey." He whispered.

The young man turned at breakneck speed and swung and arm at him, but he dodged it.

Dirk's eyes widened with recognition and then almost closed with annoyance and anger. "Matthew, how do you do that?"

"Just amazingly skilled, I guess." He shrugged then looked closer at the targets Dirk had been following. "Mm. They're cute."

"What are you doing here." Dirk growled.

"Aw... I just thought you might be lonely."

"Cut it out... or I'll kill you."

Matthew smiled, his nearly irresistible trademark. "Now that would be interesting to see."

"Ugh... just go away. I have this mission under control."

"Is that so?" Matthew leaned against a tree.

"Yes."

"Then where are they?"

"They're right the-" Dirk did a double take. The girls were gone! "Look what you made me do! I've been tracking one for days!"

"C'mon." Matthew began to walk in the other direction.

"What?"

"I know where you can find them." Matthew said.

"How?" Dirk asked.

"Lets just say... I know one of them more than then they'd like to admit." He smiled.

FarynKatz: NaNoWriMo crazed!    "Now watch how it's supposed to be done," Rachael instructed Bell. She then started to climb up the huge tree the two were nearest, the half-cat following at her heels.

"Slow down, Bell! Jeez you're gonna run me over," Rachael said with a laugh. "Well, just because you're lower than I am," Bell started. Rachael laughed. "Shut up! I'm going as fast as I can," Rach said, hoisting herself up onto a branch.

Soon the two were up in the top of the tree, and Rachael was ready to execute her fall. "Watch and learn from the owl girl," she said, and then proceeded to dive, pushing gracefully through the branches and leaves in her way and gathering speed and momentum.

She drew herself up as the ground came closer, and she stuck out her feet, landing beautifully on the balls of her feet. "I'd like to see you try that," she called up to Abella.

"No need, I'll just climb back down," her friend responded with a radiant smile, and did so, scurrying down the tree the way she had come, faster.

Rachael hugged her friend, and noticed two guys in the shade of some bushes outlining the park. She instantly froze, unable to take her eyes off fairer haired one. "Rach? Is something wrong?" Bell asked.

"What? oh- uh, no. Really. Let's go, I think I forgot something on the stove," she lied quickly.

Bell frowned. "On the stove? It's too hot to use the stove! That doesn't sound like you," she replied.

Rachael wanted to keep Bell in the dark, not wanting to worry her friend, but she also wanted to leave the watchful eyes of the two guys as soon as possible, and this seemed like an opportunity, while they were chatting away together, distracted.

"I got hungry early this morning and I want to make sure I didn't leave a mess. C'mon Bell, let's just go." she said, a pleading look in her eyes.

Bella nodded and gathered her bag. "Okay, let's go," she said. Rachael was grateful, but knew her friend wouldn't fall for the old stove excuse for long.

LdyPhoenix    Dirk watched as the girls left, automatically placing a safe distance between them. His first instinct was follow as it was his mission and his hunt. However, the albatross in the form a Scottish snake held him back. No matter what Matthew's skills were Dirk still didn't trust him.

The connection to one of the girls only made the matter worse.

"Are we going or what?"

Matthew's smirk was infuriating, but Dirk held on to his emotions. Barely. "Not until you tell me why you decided to help in this mission."

"And here I thought we were friends." His gaze followed the girls around the corner. "They're getting away."

Dirk crossed his arms across his chest. "I can find them again."

Matthew arched a brow. "Oh really? Then by all means, lead the way." When Dirk made no plans of moving, Matthew's smile returned. "Unless you're really spliced with a chicken..."

Lonewolf - Catching up    Name: Adam

Age: 19

Appearance: Roughly over 6 feet tall with broad strong shoulders he has silver shoulder length hair his eyes are white marble making him look as if he is blind but in reality he isn’t the cause for his eyes to be this way is a direct result of the animal fusion making him basically albino. His skin has slowly taken on a more of a bronze color however his hair and eyes didn’t follow suit so he’s a pale caramel.

Clothing: Adam usually wears blue jean cargo shorts and a t-shirt usually something old school like ACDC or Jimi Hendrix but when on a mission for Matthew he wears black leather pants with charcoal gray dress shirt under a black vest, and over all of this he wears a black leather trench coat that comes down to his ankles along with his black, metal buckled combat boots.

DNA fused with: White Cougar. He has the ability to look like a normal human until he becomes either angry or chooses to morph altering his body slightly giving him the ability to use his inherited cougar instincts: Speed, Agility, strength and stealth so silent Matthew and Dirk are envious of at times.

Other: Adam was the first fetus fused but since he was the first test subject he wasn’t told who his parents were nor was he allowed any real contact with the other test members except for Abella with whom he has taken on to be his little sister. Abella is also the one who gave him his name before that he was only none as TS001. Adam has his own motives for helping the doctors who did this to them. He is kept a basic prisoner by having a special ankle bracelet holding him in his cell unless he is on assignment.

Laying back in this bunk at the compound remembering the old times with Abella Adam lost in thought didn’t hear the cell phone that he had on vibrate buzzing nosily on the table next to his bed until he happened to look over at the chair Abella would often be in when she would come to visit. Picking up the phone and flipping it open he saw that it was Matthew calling and with a sigh of he answered.

“Hello? Why were you ignoring my call!? Matthew shouted.

“Sorry, I was in the shower.” Adam lied.

“Yeah, right. You've been activated for a mission.” Matthew stated in a frustrated tone.

“Yeah, well sorry bra can’t help you there you know I’m only given special assignments by the higher ups.” Adam informed with a smile spreading across his face.

“Why do you think I’m talking to you now? They have given me full control to use what I want if I need it, so that means you are under my control now. Matthew said, and from the way he said it Adam could tell he was smiling that annoying smile of his.

Adam growled into the phone with his face changing and eye twitching from the anger building.

“Excellent, I’ll send the GPS coordinates to your phone.” Matthew said before hanging up.

Adam looked down to his ankle to see if the light that is usually red was still red but to his dismay it was green which meant Matthew was not lying for once. Adam let out a primal growl of anger before grabbing his gear to meet up with Matthew.
