We have all heard ghost stories around a campfire. Well now it is our turn to tell the story. Let us work together to create the scariest story around. Remember we have young ears around our fire so keep it clean.
Numb Hands    It was Halloween night, no moon shone lit up the sky. Maggie and her new boyfriend Trevor waked through Irons trick or treating. Suddenly they heard a strange noise. It sounded like a child screaming, however at the end of the scream it was like a dog howlling.

"What in the world was that," Maggie asked.

JOY-remembering Sticky    Trevor laughed. "Oh, it's just kids goofing off for Halloween. What's the matter?" he teased. "Scared?"

Maggie tossed her hair defiantly. "Of course not! Are you?" She poked him in the ribs, just a bit harder than necessary. He rolled his eyes and grabbed her hand, pulling her down the sidewalk towards the next house.

"Come on. Mrs. Daniels always has the good candy. Let's go see what we can get!"

Just as they stepped onto Mrs. Daniel's porch, they heard the terrifying sound again!

Numb Hands    Trevor hesitated slightly before he knocked on the door. "Sounds like those kids are having a blast."

"Yeah, I wonder who it is." She laughed trying to disguise her fear.

"Trick or Treat," They said in unison as Mrs. Daniels opened the door.

"Maggie is that you?" She looked at the two teenagers disappointed. "Aren't you two a little old for trick or treating?"

"Kind of, but you can never have too much candy" Trevor pointed out.

Maggie opened her mouth to say something, only to shut it as the sound came again. This time it seemed to come from the woods directly behind Mrs. Daniels house. "You two better head on home. After all this is the seventh year of the decade." Mrs. Daniels closed the door and locked it behind her.

"That's just a legend about the Dogman right?" Maggie looked at Trevor with a hint of fear in her eyes.

"I think so, but Mrs. Daniels did look nervous when she shut the door." He looked around spooked by the memory of stories about the Dogman.

JOY-remembering Sticky    The legend stated that every seventh year of a new decade, a fearsome creature would emerge from the foothills and wait in the forest. Supposedly, it was a hybrid of man and dog, closely resembling the mythical werewolf. However, the goal of a Dogman was said to be the claiming of a bride, and any time a girl turned up missing during that year, inevitably there was someone who would speculate about the legend.

"Umm, Trevor?" Maggie whispered. "Do you think maybe we should go on home like she said? I'm not really in the mood for candy anyway." Trevor could clearly see that his girlfriend was genuinely shaken. Although his teasing hadn't bothered her, Mrs. Daniel's reaction had obviously gotten under her skin. Her eyes kept darting towards the tree line at the edge of Mrs. Daniel's yard.

Numb Hands    "Yeah, let's go. I'll walk you home first. Wouldn't want to lose you to the dogman." He laughed. "I like you to much."

"Trevor thats not funny." Maggie punched him in the arm.

The horrible sound came from directly behind them this time. They turned to see where it came from. Maggie caught a glimpse of something gigantic as it pounced back into the woods.

"Did you see that Trevor," she asked frightened.

"See what Maggie?"

"That thing that ran into the woods. It looked like a dog, but it was way to big to be one. I live on the next block I'll race you there." She wanted to get home now.

"Okay lets go." They started to run. Trevor got ahead of her "Your going to lose the race Maggie." He turned laughing. "Maggie, this isn't funny where are you."

Maggie was nowhere to be seen.

JOY-remembering Sticky    Trevor's mouth went completely dry. He broke out in a cold sweat, his eyes nervously sweeping back and forth. "M..M..Maggie? Cummon', don't mess with me like this." Spinning in a circle, he searched the neighborhood for any sign of life, but the streets and sidewalks were empty. All the other kids must have hurried home after hearing the odd cries. Trevor wanted to go home too, but he couldn't just take off, not knowing what had happened to Maggie. Where could she be? Was it possible that she had been captured by the Dogman?

Rubbing his arms in an attempt to stop the trembling, the worried young man gulped in a deep breath of air. With concern for Maggie outweighing his fear, he headed back towards Mrs. Daniel's porch. Tapping lightly on the door, Trevor tried to build up his courage.

"Trevor! I thought I told you to get on home," exclaimed Mrs. Daniels.

"Um, yeah you did, Ma'am," he stammered. "We were going, I promise! But, you see, Maggie has disappeared! I guess she could be playing a trick on me, but she said she saw something in the trees, and then she was just gone!"

Mrs. Daniel's hand flew up to cover her mouth, fear showing in her eyes.

Trevor clenched his hands into fists. "I have to go look for her."

Numb Hands    "Wait, let's call the police and her parents first." Mrs. Daniels tried to pull him inside.

"No, I have to go now." Trevor took off to the woods behind the house. Urged forward by worry for his girlfriend. He stopped just inside the forest. "Maggie," He yelled. "Maggie where are you."

"Trevor, help." Maggies voice could be heard somewhere in the dark woods.

Looking about frantically Trevor noticed the smell of rotting flesh, saw heaps of old wet leaves, and reaching for a tree he felt a sticky wet substance. He remembered the flashlight in his back pocket and turned it on, only to see that the sticky substance was blood.

"Oh God, Maggie," He screamed. He listened close for Maggies voice looking everywhere for any sign of her. Just as he started to turn around he saw something heading for him.

"Trevor," Maggie's voice sounded weak.

"What happened to you?" He grabbed her before she could fall.

"We have to get out of here. It's following me." She cried.

Trevor looked up then, and saw a creature that stood seven foot four, long black fur covered it's body. It had a long snout like a dog, but walked like a man. His eyes were blood red and his lip pulled back over it's pointy teeth in a snarl.

JOY-remembering Sticky    "Run, Maggie! Run to Mrs. Daniels!" yelled Trevor, shoving her down the path. He heard the low growling of the creature coming closer, and turned around to face it. He could hear Maggie crunching through the dead leaves as quickly as her weak legs would carry her, and he was determined to keep the Dogman from following her.

"Hey, you big smelly animal!" he hollered. Purposely aiming his flashlight towards the beast, he beamed the bright light directly into it's blood shot eyes. With a snarl, the Dogman flinched and tried to escape the light. It seemed to Trevor as if the light was causing it pain. Determined, he stepped closer, shining the light right into it's face.

Numb Hands    The closer he got, the more the Dogman would shrienk away. Trevor decided to keep pushing his luck, and walked right up to the snarling creature. With a final growl the animal turned on it's heels and sprinted into the woods.

Trevor headed back into town as he tried to figure out what had happened. That thing must be scared of light or something, he thought.

"Trevor, Trevor Johnson," A man was yelling.

"I'm right here." Trevor was still shaking from the adrenaline rush.

"Are you okay son," the officer asked.

"Yes, where is Maggie?" Trevor looked at all the faces, but saw Maggie in none of them.

"She'e on here way to the hostpital. Come on, I'll take you to her." The officer started for the cruiser.

"Hang on, there is something you all should know. The dogman is out there. He is scared of light. You have to find him." Trevor shouted.

JOY-remembering Sticky    Mrs. Daniels and her neighbors had joined the police officers out of concern for the teens. Some of them looked scared and went back to their homes as soon as they heard about the dogman. But several others volunteered to help hunt it down. While they were gathering up flashlights and rifles, someone handed Trevor a cell phone.

"Trevor?" The voice was weak.

"Maggie! Are you all right?"

"I will be. The doctor is checking me out now. That thing clawed me pretty well in the thigh when I tried to escape, but it should heal just fine. I wanted you to know I was ok. But please, someone has to stop that horrible creature!"

"Don't worry, Maggie. We think we may have found it's weakness and a bunch of us are planning to hunt it down right now!"

"Be careful Trevor. Remember, you promised to take me to the Christmas dance this year."

Trevor smiled. "I remember. Get some rest, Maggie. I will come see you as soon as we get this monster!"

Numb Hands    Everyone headed towards the place Trevor had last seen the creature. Carefully scanning the area watching for any sign of the dogman. What no one knew was that the dogman was also watching them.'They think they can catch me, it snickered to itself. I've been around for over 300 years. I know these woods better than any of those people. He took off for his cave deep within the forest.

JOY-remembering Sticky    Although confident that the town folk would not be able to locate his lair, the creature was visibly irritated that he had failed to keep his prize of the young girl. The fact that her boyfriend had also discovered the Dogman's weakness in the form of bright light caused even greater concern. The burning rage coursed through his veins like adrenaline, and his thirst for blood deepened once again.
