Alone on earth
Rated: E | Campfire Creative | Appendix | Activity | #1861165
You have been getting ready for your junior year or grade 12 and feel alone on earth with;
[Introduction] With no one around like you, you feel
alone with your two powers you must pick in this story, its summer before school. This story takes place in the summer only as a pre story to The Warriors - Campfire. If I have selected you to join from The Warriors you can use your character from there but you don't have to. But if you do please maintain a balance with the warriors.

Name: Jason Myers
Gender: Male
Power: Telepathic and Telekinesis
Looks: Brown hair and eyes, 5’9”
Extra: Son of a family of four, Mom(
Mattie) 5’4”, Dad(Jake) 5’7”, Sister(Maranda) 5’3”, all Brown eyes and Hair and all Aliens from a planet much like earth on the other side of the milky way galaxy. These aliens don’t just live together as a family on this planet they are one person in each family. Starting as two teens and two new born the teens grow up in a facility much like schools on earth, but more advanced. When the new two new born reach the age that the teens were, when they were basically cloned or genetically formed is the best way to put it in human form, they as one person are sent to a near planet to live a life as whatever living thing on the planet is the most intellectual. On earth most likely in a government facility like area 51 is where this alien in this story is sent at first, trying to find out info on earth and other aliens that might have come to earth and kept secret. The only information the alien had was of the sort you can see and hear from radios and TVs and some info was found out by spying on earth from powerful telescopes.

Coming to earth I found this vision much different then where I come from. The first contact I have managed is with this 6 foot dark skinned man with black hair and dark brown eyes. His mind is pretty easy to navigate, with files upon files of information about his life on earth. But this vision I see through his eyes is but one. I find it hard to understand. These humans, as I find from the info in this man’s brain, are living but with one vision. I have four visions and four different paths to walk with these four visions. His mind seems to tell me that they all live like this on earth and can't look into other minds for information in a telekinesis way. Movies are a projection of themselves in the past making true and fictional stories with each other to entertain and educate themselves. Much like the way I have grown up with telekinesis and learned from others storys and images put together to for entertainment but we have done it in our heads. Not to say we don't have tecnology, infact looking at this guys files in his head our tecnology is far more advanced.
"Hey you what are you doing in this restriced area?" A guy dressed in a uniform much like this dark skinned man was wearing asked my Jason body and vision. Searching his mind I find the right thing to say.
"My tour guide has lead me to this area then I seem to have fallen behind, can you show me the nearest exit?"
"Sure, right through that hall and take a left." He answered.
I quickly left to join the rest of me in the other room befor he could realize there was no tours today or much of that information kept classifed his mind seemed to be saying as I was leaving.
Name: Sam Undling
Gender: Male
Power: Teleportation, Pricision/accuracy (throwing, shooting)
Looks: 6 feet tall with brown close cropped hair. Ice blue eyes, and an extremely athletic body.
Extra: Sam A.K.A. #213 was created in a military testing facility under the secret government program "First Strike". He was raised to be an ultimate weapon. But at the age of 8 the program was suddenly scrapped and he was sent to live with a foster family. His teleportation powers didn't manifest until he turned 12 when his foster father came at him intending to punish Sam. He suddenly disappeared, then reappeared in the next room. They didn't know what to make of it, but eventually they came to belive that the father was just so drunk that he didn't even know what really happened.

I grabbed a small computer chip near my bedside. Then felt behind my head in the small amount of hair that I had, and inserted and the chip into a compartment. There was a stab of pain and then a cold rush as the data flowed directly into my brain. Seeping into every crack and crevice and flowing down my spine. I felt a surge of electricity as every nerve in my body reacted and recognized the data.

“Activate.” My eyes suddenly itched and with a soft click and the darkness of night suddenly brightened substantially, vitals began rolling across my eyes as my internal heads up display activated. And lastly a retical appeared following wherever I looked. I guess there were some advantages to being created in a lab. I smiled as I heard my one and only family speak.

“Hello #213.” A calm voice in my head.

“Hey Amie.” Amie was an Artificial Intelligence, assigned to me when I still worked for the government, she was specifically created for me and has “grown up” alongside me for as long as I could remember.

“Can’t sleep?” she asked.

“Haha what’s new? Scan police transmissions please. I need to blow off some steam. Look for anything out of the ordinary.”

“Complying...Well we have a robbery in progress near 13th street, high-speed chase on I-94 S…wait I’m getting something right now. An elderly woman just called 911, translating from Spanish…she’s saying a large red…monster broke into her house.”

“Well that sounds interesting, location please?” That was the good thing about having an Amie. Whereas my teleportation abilities limited me to only travel to places I have been, Amie could augment my ability to allow me to travel virtually anywhere so long as the location had coordinates.

“Location primed, ready when you are.”

I flipped a switch hidden inside the closet. The west wall slid back and then to the side and revealed another small room. I walked over to the gun rack and selected a pistol from the top. A Smith and Wesson M&P 45 caliber. I grabbed two extra clips and slid the gun and clips into the corresponding holsters. Then I walked over to where the knifes were set in their respective positions. I studied the collections. I’ve dealt with these “monsters” before they usually meant demons. I grabbed a few silver ones and secured them on my person. Then grabbed a slightly larger on and strapped it to my leg.

“Have the police arrived yet?”

“Negative,” Amie replied. “I believe this call is pretty low on their priority list.”

“Good.” I smirked, excitement building, and disappeared without a sound.

The city looked so peaceful. Then again it always looked that way in the early hours before the first shifters got in thier cars and began yet another boring day. The people of this city were so niave, they had no idea what goes on in the shadows, nor do they care. They just continue on oblivious of the evils, and even when they come in contact with it, they justify it. Somehow thier simple minds come up with some explaination to explain the unexplainable.

I looked to the east, knowing the sun still had an hour or two yet before it will the horizon.

"Sunrise is at 5:47am today." Amie mentioned.

"Thanks. Lets get to work." I was standing atop a 15 story apartment building overlooking the house from which the disturbance call came. I took one step off the edge and smirked as I felt gravity take it's hold on me. The wind whipped past my face and the floors of the apartment building flew past at a startling rate. At the very last second I made a small port to land safely on my feet. And pulled out my pistol.
Name: Rodney Beck
Gender:Male
Power: Duplication (both physical and temporal)/ Omniscience
Looks: Rodney does not look or act like act a guy that knows everything. He is 6'5" with a solid muscular frame and tanned skin. He has long dark blonde hair and light brown eyes.
Extra: Superpowers is nothing new to the Beck family. His father, Gordon Beck, was actually the inspiration for the well-known fictional character Elastic Man. It was unusual that Rodney did not get the powers his father had, but his powers are still very much welcomed by his family. To help hide his powers, Gordon enrolled Rodney in several sports programs growing up and placed an emphasis on athletics in Rodney's life, thus explaining the muscular frame.

As I lay on my bed watching an eight-year-old version of myself play with legos, a question popped into my head. Would that little boy be proud of who he was going to become? I was very popular in school and had a great football future ahead of me, not to mention the hottest girlfriend in school; of course he would've been proud. I had everything going for me... right?

Being omniscient definitely had its advantages, but it also had its problems. I could not understand people. No matter what I may have known about behavior patterns or personality traits, people were always unpredictable. Because of this, I could not fully understand emotions, the future, or relationships. It was frustrating.

"Rodney!" my dad called up the stairs. I knew exactly what his tone meant. I watched my younger self vanish, and quickly cleaned up the toys. The door opened just as I shoved the lego tub under my bed. It was my girlfriend, Courtney.

"What are you doing down there Rod?" Her big green eyes looked down at me in confusion.

"I... uh... was just... cleaning up," I choked. Great recovery Rod.

"Whatever you goof. Blake is waiting for us though. Hurry up!"

I grabbed Courtney and gave her a quick kiss on her lips. "Okay, babe."

As we ran down the stairs, my dad made a subtle gesture to me. I paused a moment before I acknowledged it.

"Uh... babe, I'll meet you outside. I need to talk to my dad for a second."

Courtney playfully rolled her eyes at me before going outside. My dad walked towards me with his 'look' on his face. This conversation was going to be more than a second.

"Rodney, what do you have planned for this summer?" he asked me expectantly.

"I don't know dad, I was thinking of just taking it easy, spending time with Courtney, and getting ready for football. Is that okay with you?"

"Rodney, I want you to start using those powers of yours for good. I understand you're young and want to have fun, but you should consider using those powers sometime in the future."

"Dad, I know. I'm omniscient... remember?"

"Sometimes I wonder about that. Now your mother and I have worked hard to make sure you succeed in society, but we also want you to use your powers. Please don't waste them."

"Relax dad. I know all of this already. I promise I won't waste them. As for right now, I have a date with Courtney. I'll be back later tonight."

My dad rubbed his forehead (a clear sign he wasn't satisfied) and released a quick sigh. "That's fine. Just don't get in trouble."

Name: Faerydae(means: dark child a gift from the fairies) McLachlan
Gender: female
Power: has magical powers that let her not only shield herself and other but blow up things: rapid self healing
Looks(straight black/blue hair down past her waist, deep green eyes that change to dark purple when she uses her magic. She is tall for a girl, six foot)
Extra(never knew her real parents, raised by kind loving gypsies that found her as a baby and raised her. They taught her how to heal others with herbs and how to read tarot cards)

As I look out the window of the rolling house that was now my families new home, I wonder why the people we bought it from looked weird at my parents, and even odder at me. I know I am not like other girls my age, I don't look like one, 6 foot tall at sixteen through people off. Still mother would say it was my uncommon beauty that held people's eyes. Still I hated when they would stare at me, like I was from a different planet.

I could have been for all I know. Mom and dad found me on the road side one late night, when I as newborn. Their kind hearts could not leave me there, and with no children of their own, they felt the powers that be had given me to them as a gift for all their good works. Though gypsies had been given a bad name by some of the ones that were not so helpful, my parents and their band were good people. Set out to heal and help all those who needed them. Mom had a way to know where those people were and father a way to earn the trust of those people so that Grams could use her powers of healing on them. So many times I sat a watched this all in wonderment, wishing I held a power of my own to help.

It was not until I was ten that we found I held any powers at all. Those powers would set me above the others. The night it happened, I remember like last night. The storm that hit the caravan fast and hard. Many people were going to be crushed by a huge oak about to fall, inculding mom and me. I was so scared, I wished I could just hold the tree at bay until the men could come and save us. I `
I, or we as earth people would say, walked around this building hiding when humans walked by and found out as much information as we could about the facility. It seemed to be a good place to come to first, of course my planet would send me here first its the best place to find information about earth and all its inhabitants. Area 51 is a name a lot of humans would call this place. Looking through minds I find most call the facility, "The Second Diget", a military site for testing, learning, teaching, and discovery. This town already has some powerfull humans? No I wouldn't call them that for sure they look like humans, but most of the humans in white lab coats have thoughts about how they call them super hero's. Some are humans that have been through experiments and created as secret government programs. One that caught my eye was this one man who was thinking about a boy named Sam. This mans name was Robert and was thinking about an old project called "First Strike". The man went on to think how the project was scraped to create the ultimate weapon with number two, one, three. They put the boy in a foster home at the age of eight and Robert kept tabs on him since. When Sam turned twelve, Robert saw him start to develop his powers. His thoughts would have went on to tell me more but someone interupted him. I thought I would have to come back to Robert later to find out more. Some other lab coat men were thinking of different aliens that are secretly living on earth. I have actually heard of some of these aliens for my planet has already studied their planets. But some are new to me, either I didn't come across the alien in the database or I did and don't remember, but most likely our species never went there planets.
"Hey kid what are you doing down this hall?" Another uniform man said to my Jason body. It always seems to be my Jason body getting caught.
"Just looking for "first strike"." I said, my mind was still thinking of Robert and that boy he was thinking of. "I mean I'm looking for Robert he wasn't far ahead of me."
"Well if you go back down this hall and hang a right you'll come to the section twenty lobby and the receptionist there will help you find Robert and first strike." The military man said as he was thinking, 'Whatever first strike is, sounds like an old secret government program.'
Before Courtney and I even left the driveway, she jumped in my lap and pressed her lips against mine. I had to get going, but I didn't want to ruin the moment. Eventually, she relaxed and climbed back into her seat.
"We aren't really going to see Blake are we?" Courtney asked. I could feel the annoyed tone in her voice.
"No, I think he's busy. But you don't like Blake? Since when?"
"Really Rod? He's so obnoxious sometimes. Can't we just go out just the two of us?"
I let out a long sigh as I looked into Courtney's eyes. "Fine."

As Courtney and I made our way to the movies, I noticed a girl walking on the sidewalk. I had never seen her before, but she was cute. She looked tall, probably around six foot, and had long dark hair. She was alone.
"Let's pick her up," I told Courtney as I pulled over to the curb.
"Rod! What are you doing?" Courtney objected. It was too late though. I had already rolled down my window and called out to the girl.
"Hey there! We're gonna go catch a movie. You wanna come? It's on me," I offered the girl. She looked at me in sheer confusion.
"Do I know you?"
"No, but you should. I'm Rod Beck. You might know as the popular kid from school. Well anyways, me and my... friend were gonna go watch a movie. Wanna tag along?"
Courtney glared at me. I knew I was going to be paying for this later, but she would get over it.
The looked at me as a smile slowly crossed her face...
Mom knew then I was the one, the one she had been told about. I hated it but loved it too. How was I the one, but how could I not do as I was told. Father never let on to anyone who I was, he said it would be harder for me if everyone knew. He told mom and Grams to keep quiet too. Time would show enough and others would harden me to the ways of the world other wise. I knew then that normal people did not hold powers the likes of mine or my family. Still they were not all bad people for it. No most were worth saving, even if you only seen the bad on the front page of the papers. Killers, wife and children beater, rapest, and all the others that were bad shown past the good people. The saviors were not front page news any more, nor were those who would do for others without thought. Grams would try to hide the papers from me, telling mom that I would think the world was not worth saving if I knew the truths. However I would still see them from time to time when no one was looking. Only when I was fifteen did the bad touch me.
I was dancing with my dearest friend, Marie Bell when a drunken man attacked us. Our men stopped him then, however later that night when all were asleep he came back and raped and killed Marie Bell. I will never forget his face when he made his way to my tent, the anger and evil in him shown through his eyes, clear as happiness and good came through Marie Bell's. As he came towards me, I could hear the cries of my friend, her voice pleading to him not to harm her. However later I found he had. As I felt his hands on my legs pulling me towards him, my powers came on full force. He soon pulled his hands back so fast, as if he had been burnt, which looking at his hands he had been. Next a glow came around him, a bright red light lifted him up over me, over the room and pitched him back and forth with a strength of four men. Once the nightmare was over the man fell to the floor, dead.
The cries of Marie Bell's family were no louder to me than that of her own out of the man who lay dead at my feet. They came at once to my tent to check on me. What the found was a dead man and me very scared. Grams said then that he got what the powers that be wanted him to get for taking the life of one of their own. However mom said that Marie Bell was now one of them now and was looking out for me and now I would always heal faster and find less danger in my travels.
When I got to the section twenty lobby the military man must have been thinking subconsciously about how there really was a old project called 'first strike' and the section twenty lobby really used to be the main area of entry for it. The reason I knew this was because I was looking at an old receptionist reading what was on her mind. It happened to be thinking of the old project and how the little boy was hooked up secretly with a foster family that lived near another little kid around the same age. The kid had just found out she had superpowers when her and her family were in danger in a storm and a big oak tree was about to fall on them. She held that tree for a bit, with some kind of force field that acted like a dome over them, waiting for people to come cut it up and take it off somehow. When no one came for a long time she suddenly blasted the tree into two leaving splinters of wood everywhere. When the government found out they kept an eye on her and had Sam live near by. I dug a little deaper in her mind by going up and touching her hand and asking, "Is it true Robert might start up 'First Strike' again?" I had no idea if this was true and didn't need her to think about the subject at hand, I only needed to touch her. But it helped when their minds were on the same track. At least so far humans seemed to be that way and other aliens work that way too. When I got in there I found out where the two lived and another thing too. A different kind of project that first strike was supposed to help. Some super hero's, a man called elastic man human name Gordon Beck, his son was about the same age as the other two I was just inquiring about and my two young body's I have named Jason and Maranda in the human English language. I must go to this town at once.
"Who are you and what do you know about first strike?" The receptionist asked. Oh no I thought she is looking at all four of me standing there and thinking these are not human. I didn't want to stick around to find out how she knew that. Maybe she has powers of her own.
"Robert told me you knew about first strike and I was involved, I thought maybe you would remember me." My Jake body told her, realizing that all of my body's asked her that first question and that's why she was thinking these are not human. Quickly I told her with Jake, "I guess you don't remember or they don't want you to, sorry I'm not even supposed to be talking like this to you, top secret, I just slipped. I'll leave now." Then before she had a chance to think about maybe picking up that phone for security or a higher person in charge I left with all four of my body's following the exit signs still listening to her thoughts about if she should call then deciding to leave it be and maybe asking Robert later in a sneaky way to try and see if he really is starting up project first strike again.
Name: Ian Anders

Gender: Male:

Power: Self-propelled flight/Ability Absorption

Looks: Hazel nut colored eyes, shaggy black hair, olive tanned skin, tall athletic 6'1 frame, he can always be seen wearing jeans of some sort, and a t-shirt usually something that has to do with a metal band.

Extra: Ian was raised by his father after his mother mysteriously disappeared. His father took Ian away from the outside world until he was 13 because of the abilities Ian showed he had as a child. Of all of the abilities Ian possessed the only one that has remained present is his ability to fly and ability absorption. His father possesses the ability of rapid healing to which he thought he passed off to his son. However after an incident that left Ian bleeding from a fall off the roof proved otherwise. It wasn’t until Ian’s father Horatio came to see if his son was okay did they discover Ian could absorb the ability of those around him for his own use.

~ ~ ~

It’s been pretty rough around here since my mom disappeared, and to be honest I’m having a hard time remembering what she looked like. My dad and I have struggled for awhile to make ends meet. It would have been really bad if I didn’t have my ability to help us. I don’t even know how many others are out here like me and my dad. Yeah, my dad is special too. As I can fly, and seemingly absorb and use different abilities at will. My dad only has the ability to heal from any wound which is how I attained the ability. The taken ability doesn’t last for longer than 4 months, but as I train I am able to make it last longer. When I started out I had to be in the presence of the person who had the ability for me to use it as well. My dad has a few friends with different abilities, and they train with me, so I know I can handle two different abilities other than the one’s I was born with. The only thing that is keeping me connected to my mother is my ability to fly. I wish I knew where she was.

Until next time, this is Ian Anders.

Ian stared down at the notebook in his hands. The crisp feel of the paper mad him want to write more, but he knew he had to get home. The birds that were keeping him company were getting restless and had began to peck at the pencil in his hands. Ian had aspirations of being a writer, but never felt comfortable enough to allow others to see anything he had written under his own name. Ian had been reclining in the clouds as he enjoyed the company of the brown and grey pigeons. He enjoyed the moisture the clouds provided, and always loved the way it was able to cool his skin whenever he sought them to escape the heat. He figured the birds were annoyed that a human was spending time in their natural habitat. However, that puzzled Ian as he began to fly around them absentmindedly.

"Was he human? He could still bleed, yet he could fly, and do other things." he thought.

It’s hard trying to maintain a level head when you know you had certain abilities. He heard rumors of others who say they have special abilities, but most often than not they are lying. His dad said that he shouldn’t tell anyone about his powers. It could be so lonely sometimes though.

Ian allowed gravity to take him into its embrace as he raced towards the home he shared with his father. When he was close to the roof he forcibly made gravity stop making him land easily on the roof as if he had just stepped up there to fix something. The advantage of having a house in the middle of nowhere was having no neighbors that could be nosy. It wasn't until Ian felt the strange sensation in his stomach, kind of like when you know something dangerous is about to happen and your stomach does its best to let you know about it? Yeah, Ian's stomach was in knots. He was just about to take off from the roof as fast as he could when it happened.

All hell broke loose under him, and the roof burst into flames.
The girl stood outside my car, smiling. She seemed to be frozen.

"...Are you coming?" I asked, hoping to get some sort of response.

The girl began walking away without saying a weird. I still don't know what happened, but it was the first time a girl ever turned me down for an invite; I was not happy at all. Courtney's eyes followed the strange girl as she continued walking away. She then glanced back at me.

"What's her problem?" Courtney asked.

I couldn't answer. In my omniscient, I could tell there was something special about her. I knew she was born in a gypsy environment (at least the clothes supported that), but there was something more. My brain went from file to file, searching for an answer as to who this girl was. In a matter of moments, I concluded that I would not be able to tell what her secret was. Maybe I'd get to ask her later...

**

After the movie, Courtney and I drove out to our... "spot." Our spot was located in a forest preserve. It was a dark secluded corner, but here we had the freedom to do whatever we pleased; Courtney and I made many memories here. As we lay in the grass talking, I heard a quiet rustle in a nearby bush. It was too controlled to be an animal, so I quickly prepared for the worst. I stood up, and made sure Courtney was behind me. In moments, a man jumped out of the bush. He was holding a gun.

"Hey kid. Looks like you and your girlfriend are having fun. Sorry, but I think I'm going to be taking her with me," the man said with a twisted smile.

I could feel Courtney's hand touch my back. "Please don't let him near me Rod," she whispered. I could feel the fear in her voice.

I closed my eyes as I developed a plan. When I opened them, a copy of me stood behind the man. A second copy appeared to his right, and a third to his left. In one fluid motion, the trio attacked him. The left copy quickly knocked his gun away, and the other two copies tackled him to the ground. A fourth copy joined in on the fight as the copies kicked the man into the ground. I can still hear his muffled yelling as my copies stomped him away. In a few short minutes, he was silent. The copies disappeared to reveal a bloody mess of a man laying in a crumpled mess on the floor. I looked back at Courtney, who was staring at me with more fear than before.

"Rod... what was that?"
I went to the town where Sam and the girl Faerydae lived. Looking around I found a home for sale. Phoning the number I arranged a meeting to look at the house and maybe buy it. Since coming to earth I have kept in touch with my supervisor. For the most part the sound of my voice I send in my head to my supervisor is the sound of Jason's. The voice I get back mostly is the boys voice that is about Jason's age. His name is Miguel and the older male of the alien has the name Mike. Janet is the mom figure and Alice was the younger female before when on another planet she was killed. When a body gets killed from my race its like how a human losses a arm but worse in ways. Like losing part of your memory. This alien, my supervisor, told me he set me up a job as a teacher for my Jake body. He said it took a lot of work
looking with the powerful telescope at principles of schools and other head people. Then talking into their minds making them think they just read my application or transfer. The supervisor did this as soon as they found out what town I was going to. Another thing they did was get me a bank account with lots of money. They did this by hypnotic thought on a rich guy making him think he needed to donate a buch of money into an account with my name set up to it.
"I like this house." I told my Jake body with my Jason body, putting on a show for the salesman. We did this kind of thing all the time on my home planet. But there its more practice for when you do get shipped to another planet.
"Yea its good but what does your Mom say." I said from my Jake body feeling weird calling myself Mom, even though I have practiced all the time on my home planet. But this was with a different audience.
Flames surrounded Ian as he stood on the roof of the home he shared with his father. Ian’s first reaction had been to fly off somewhere to safety instantly, but memories of his father filled his mind and he just couldn’t bring himself to leave. The flames that erupted below him suddenly accumulated into one spot and slowly rose from the burning house in the form a human figure working itself into a spiraling ball infused with flames. The flaming ball then sprouted two arms, legs, and a head with glowing red coal colored eyes.

The figure stretched his arm out toward Ian and flames arched up from the burning roof to encircle its hand. Flames jumped from one finger to the next, across its splayed hand.

“Ian, we meet again.” The figure said.

The wind picked up casting smoke and flame embers into the air causing Ian to choke. His eyes began to tear up from the thick smoke that rose from the roof.

“Who are you?” Ian choked, fighting his instinct to fly off.

The figures laugh was harsh and wasn’t unlike the sound of fresh snow being walked on for the first time. “You can call me Ember.”

Ian covered his nose and mouth with his shirt in hopes of making it easier for him to breathe.

“Where is your father Ian?” Ember asked, walking across the burning roof. Each step he took seemed to ignite the pieces of roof that weren’t on fire. “He has something that belongs to me, and as soon as I get it I’ll leave you both alone.”

“I don’t know where my father is, and if I did I still wouldn’t tell someone like you!” Ian shouted.

“Ah, yes, defiant just like your mother. She was...something else. I remember her well.” Ember commented, steadily walking forward.

Ian could feel the heat of the flames increase each step Ember made.“What do you know about my mother?”

“Since you have no information for me, unfortunately, you’ll never know.” Ember stated, drawing ever closer.

Ember’s body began to glow and pulse a bright orange red that began to suck up the fire from the roof. Ian had to cover his eyes because of the intense light that emanated from Ember. The fire surrounding Ian seemed to have a mind of its own as it began to move toward him. Flames encircled Ember’s body with each pulse of light. Ember gathered a writhing ball of flame between both of his hands then threw the ball toward Ian.

Ian seemed to be stuck in place. His mind told him to take off, but for some reason he just couldn’t make his body move. The ball of fire hit his chest and splashed over his body like he had just took a swan dive into a pool of water. Through the haze of fire that blazed he could see Ember begin to walk away.
