Welcome to Beyond The Water's Edge, a monthly nonfiction writing challenge brought to you by your friends at "The Talent Pond" . If you're interested in other great contests and activities run by The Talent Pond, just click on the image above. Smile

There are so many short story and other fiction writing contests on Writing.Com, we wanted to do something a little different and challenge you to write critically. But just because it's nonfiction doesn't mean it has to be boring... we're going to challenge you to still be creative through the use of unique, thought-provoking prompts.

Entries will be judged on two criteria... creativity and effective incorporation of nonfiction elements (research, objectivity, persuasive argument, etc.).


IMPORTANT DATES:

*Bullet* New prompts will be posted at the beginning of each month.

*Bullet* The deadline for entries is the last day of each month at 11:59PM WdC time.


RULES:

*Bullet* New writing only. That means items with a creation date in between each round's opening and closing.

*Bullet* Only one (1) entry per person, per round.

*Bullet* The contest is open to all WdC members of any case color.

*Bullet* Entries must be between 500 and 2,000 words, rated 18+ or below.

*Bullet* Entries must be posted in the forum in bitem format. (e.g. {bitem:1277388}). Do not copy and paste your entry into your post. If you need help creating a bitem link or do not have room in your port to create a new item, contact SoCalScribe for assistance.

*Bullet* If less than five (5) entries are received, only 1st Place will be awarded. If less than three (3) entries are received, we reserve the right to extend the deadline OR issue gift points as a consolation prize.

*Bullet* You may edit your entries at any time. However, they may be judged at any point after the contest deadline, so there are no guarantees that any changes you make after the deadline will be read.

*Bullet* Spelling and grammar count. While a typo or two will not disqualify your entry, proofreading is an important part of the writing process. Frequent errors and/or poor readability are likely to affect your chances of winning.

*Bullet* Judging will be done by SoCalScribe unless otherwise noted. The judge's decisions for each round are final.

*Bullet* All entries will receive a rating and review.

*Bullet* Donations can be made to the "The Talent Pond River Bank"  (Group #1614936).
