Nice way to put it, and so true!

I belong more to the artful people , kept my editor gagged and locked in a little prison cell in my messed head and just hammered away ... loads of crap.

Next year I will release her and begin to turn the crap into gold.

Re: Re: THE SECRET to winning NaNo. imho.

Right up front, I have no experience with NaNo.
That out of the way, I was reading this thread and feel that I do have to stick my 2 cents in.

There are two sides to writing that are essential to producing great writing.

The first is art, the second is craft.
The art is the inspiration, the flow of words, the "crap" if you will.
The craf...[Read Full Post]

Re: THE SECRET to winning NaNo. imho.

My 2cents on the subject of writing 50k of crap:
Here's a sample from the words I wrote yesterday:
"In that curious country, there was a powerful ruler whose army possessed such powerful weapons that many people could be wounded all at the same time"
I think we can all see the faults in that sentence but they don't matter at this stage...[Read Full Post]

Re: Re: THE SECRET to winning NaNo. imho.

Turning off the editor isn't that hard. Just tell her when you set down to write that she can let you have it in December November is for writing.

I'll be honest. I try not to write crap. But, I don't worry about it if it is crap. Everything I write is crap the first time through. Thats what December is for. Turning it into not crap....[Read Full Post]

Re: THE SECRET to winning NaNo. imho.

I hear you. It is hard to train myself to do that though. I was doing a test run today, of just writing a story in the way I imagine I am going to need to for NaNoWriMo, and it was slow going. That editor keeps coming up and taking over, so I have to somehow train myself to turn that off.

THE SECRET to winning NaNo. imho.

Right, so, here's what I think the secret to winning NaNo is.

Write CRAP

No, seriously.

Two years ago was my first NaNo. I did it on a whim, signing up on Oct 31st. I'd never written a word of fiction before. And I made it to 52k - though, by then, I'd gotten bogged down by the fact I had no idea how to...[Read Full Post]
