'Attention to Detail' is the theme of this contest. Two individuals, when asked to describe a scene they just viewed, will respond with starkly varying levels of detailing. Some people have the innate ability to see much more than others. While it could be a natural gift for a fortunate few, I am certain that with practice everyone can develop it. This contest is an opportunity to hone this skill.
Contest Rules
Only Short Stories will be accepted. For the time being, I have decided not to allow poetry. . Only one entry per person per round is allowed. Please post your entries in the bitem format ("Newbie Letter - bitem, static instruct." [E]) in the forum posts.
This is a monthly contest running from the first day till the last day of the month. Late entries will be disqualified. WDC time will be the reference.
Every round will have a prompt.
This is a forum to test your ‘Attention to Detail.’ You may innovate and give the details through a story, dialogs, diary entry, monologue or anything else that you can think of. Needless to say, judges will be partial to an item that is more interesting to read.
An example: Suppose the prompt is ‘Your mother's kitchen.’ You may choose to present a laundry list of all the items in your mother's kitchen. On the other hand you may describe a scene of your mother cooking showing us where she stores the ingredients, where is her fridge, what make is her microwave and so on.
Neither style is wrong. What judges are keen on seeing is how closely you observed your mother's kitchen. You may give an interesting description of how your mother made the apple pie, but if you don't show her kitchen, the item doesn't work. On the other hand, a mere monotonous rattling of details could just put the judges to sleep . Remember, that this is about 'Creative Detailing.'
A piece which is free of grammatical errors or spelling mistakes would get additional credit.
There is no word limit, but a verbose piece would better detail that much more and at the same time be interesting enough to hold the judges' attention
There are no rating restrictions. If erotica or horror is what you need to prove your Detailing skills, I surely have the appetite. However, I will not read bestiality, incest, underage or non-consensual sex. The forum posts should be 13+ only, or will be deleted. Readers are warned to see the content rating before reading the entries.
All entries may be read at any time. Edits done after posting would not disqualify the entry. However, if the judge has already reviewed the story, the edits may not be read.
If you have any doubts you may pose it on the forum or write a mail to Moriarty doing better ![View profmoriarty's Portfolio. [Offline / Private]](http://images.Writing.Com/imgs/writing.com/writers/costumicons/ps-icon-regular-40.gif)
All reviews will be public. You may visit "PAPER DOLL GANG REVIEW TOOL TEMPLATE" [E] to get an idea about how the reviews will be done. What judges will evaluate is originality, creativity, relevance to the prompt, flow, grammar and above all, the detailing.
Entries must be newly written for this contest.
Please add a word count either at the beginning or at the end of your item.
Prompt for Round 8 (October 2011)
The Newlyweds
Give me a tale of newlyweds. You can use any situation. It could be a traditional Westen wedding where the couple courted before marriage. It could even be a conventional Asian marriage where parents made the match. It could be a polygamous tribal alliance if that is what fires your imagination. Give me a glimpse of life after marriage. You may use conflict or humor or plain vanilla romance or any other type of drama. It could be a story from their routine life or something that occurred during their honeymoon. Make it interesting, and provide lots of details as that is the theme of this contest.
