Hawk's Vocabulary Extravaganza
A test of skills on the use of vocabulary. (2 time Editor pick) (Quill honorable mention)
Rated:
E
by
Avg Rating: (17)

When writing, a great vocabulary can mean the difference between an ordinary story or poem and a piece which will be remembered --- sometimes for years afterward. Each month this contest will present ten vocabulary words for inclusion in a work of short story or poem. Many of these words you will have to look up the definitions and some you may recognize. Practicing writing and expanding your boundaries as a writer is what this contest is designed to do.

Rules:

*Check* There must be a minimum of 4 entries in any given month. Anything less will be pushed to the next month's judging.
*Check* You must use at least 3 of the 10 words on the vocabulary list each month
*Check* Submissions must be made by midnight EST on the last day of the month
*Check* Short stories should be 500 to 1,000 words
*Check* Poetry must be at least 25 lines long
*Check* Only one story and one poetry item can be submitted. You can submit one of each.
*Check* You are allowed to edit your piece all the way up to the end of the month
*Check* Submissions do not have to be new, but they do need to be original and fit all other rules
*Check* Submissions should be presented with the bitem format
*Check* All submissions should be rated lower than 18+
*CheckG* A word count is not required, but definitely is appreciated

Most of all, have fun and be creative. Judging will be centered around how seamlessly you insert the words into your piece and the correct usage and, of course, a great story/theme helps too!

Judging will be done by the 15th of the next month.

Prizes:

1st Place receives 5,000 gift points and a merit badge!
2nd Place receives 3,500 gift points!
3rd Place receives 1,500 gift points!

An annual Grand Prize of the highest awardicon that gift points will allow also will be awarded. Each monthly 1st Place winner will be automatically entered. You will be Vocabulary Royalty! *ThumbsUp*

One further note: Should a writing piece be removed from WDC, it will become ineligible for the annual award.
