We've all got funny or interesting stories to tell, experiences we share around the water cooler, in our blogs, or when we're really drunk and wish we hadn't. But how many times have you told someone your story and they just give you a blank stare? Invariably it follows with something like "I guess you had to be there." Well, here's your chance to redeem yourself. There must be some reason that story gives you nightmares, causes you to laugh so hard you piss yourself, or makes you point and snicker at the weird guy down the street. We're supposed to be writers, so rather than screw up the story by struggling to verbally get it out while you're laughing so hard you're wheezing, how about writing it?

I love telling entertaining anecdotes, but I'm sick of doing all the work. It's your turn to tell me an interesting anecdote. Spice it up with some humor, drama, horror, whatever. Change the names to protect the innocent, or give the full names just to stick it to The Man. Make the fish a foot longer than it was, or make the smell worse than a bean fart in a heated car. Embellish it or don't; it's entirely up to you. You have only one goal when sharing this anecdote with me and the rest of Writing.com: make it entertaining.


Anecdotes must be nonfiction. They can be based on experiences of yourself or someone you know. Parts can be fictionalized for entertainment's sake, but the main content of the entry must be factual.

Entries should be static items or blog/journal entries no more than 30K in length, and they need to be linked in the forum below via an item tag or an entry tag. If you don't know how to do that, go look it up.

There is no rating requirement on the entries, but keep the content of your forum posts to 18+. This means even XGC entries are allowed. So if you have a hilarious sex story, now would be the time to tell it.

Entertain me. I don't care how you do it, but that's the goal here. It can be done via humor, intrigue, fascination, bewilderment, shock, horror, disgust, whatever. Keep me reading, and make me feel like I was there experiencing it with you, even if I'd rather not be. The more entertaining, the more likely your chance of winning.

Spelling and grammar do count. Occasional mistakes are fine, because this is about entertainment, not award-winning writing, but an excess of errors will prompt me to skim the entry as quick as possible.

You may enter as many times as you like. The item/entry may already exist, so long as it is not previously awarded.

Less than 10 entries and you can consider the whole thing off. Each participant would be awarded a consolation prize if that were to come to fruition however.
