WELCOME ABOARD!!
Every couple years, athletes from around the world gather in one city and participate in two and a half weeks of athletic competition. The athletes live for the events...and so do many of us! This forum is for Writing.com members who love the Olympics, be it a die hard fan who keeps track of IOC happenings even in non-event years or if you just enjoy griping about media coverage during the games. Whatever your pleasure, you are welcome here.
Like any Olympic event, there are some rules for this forum.

Though the forum is rated 18+, do not use sexually derived profanity in this forum. I have the rating set at 18+ to accomodate frequent discussions about doping, the occassional rant and any world events which affect the Olympic movement in some shape or form.

I
will not tolerate any attacks of nations or people due to their connections to a given country. This act of trolling is what has discouraged me from visiting other Olympic forums on the internet. If you violate this rule at any time, I will ban you by suspending/deleting all of your posts made after your offensive comments for one year. If you receive three annual bans, I will ban you from the forum for life. If this becomes a widespread problem, I will have to restrict posting to group members, and no offending posters will be admitted into the group. This is harsh, but discrimination based on nationality contradicts the Olympic spirit. Also, it creates a hostile environment which inhibits discussion. Thus, I have decided to draw a line in wet concrete on this issue.

Offsite links are permitted in the forum posts. The only exception to this rule is if the links contain any discriminatory material in regards to nationality.

Athletes may be discussed, but try to keep rants about particular athletes to a minimum. This helps prevent flame wars, and the rants usually aren't worth the energy.

If you wish, you may write the rant elsewhere and post a link to it in the forum.

During the Olympics, I do request that you talk about the Olympics only. It can be past, present or future games. All non-Olympics posts will be suspended (as I don't want this forum to turn into a chaotic discussion melee). If a post is even peripherally related to the Olympics, it's good to go.
That covers the general rules of the forum. Rules for specific contests/activities will be contained in separate posts, which I will link here as needed.

So, anything pertaining to the Olympics is fair game for discussion! Great discussion is always golden.
