Welcome to my Star Trek Fan Fiction Contest!!!


Hello everyone. This is a contest where you can submit any Star Trek fan fiction to win exciting (ok, maybe not that exciting   ) prizes. I will accept other forms of sci-fi fan fiction as long as I have a comprehensive knowledge of the fandom. That means, Star Wars, Firefly/Serenity, and possibly Battlestar Galactica as well. There mabe others that I have just forgotten) . The reason why this isn't simply a Sci-Fi Fanfic contest is that I've been a 'beta' (fanfic writers will know) for about four years and there's nothing like editing a fandom that you don't know that much about. And now imagine you would have to judge them on top of that... I also think it wouldn't be fair for both sides. Each would be disadvantaged in a different by the extent of my knowledge of the fandom. At first, I thought I'd make this solely a Star Trek contest, but since I'm only just beginning, and have no idea what the turnout will be, I've broadened it a little bit.

There is no prompt for this contest and the stories you post don't have to be written specifically for it. The only criteria is that they have't been previously awarded and are fan fics in the above mentioned fandoms.

I will NOT accept poetry. Sorry, but I simply don't have the competence in that area. I won't, however, set any word limit. I will accept everything from short flash fics to novels or series. Although, if you think a particular episode of your series or chapter of your novel is especially good, I can consider only that portion.

Finally, I would like to encourage people to have a go at writing Fan Fiction. I know some writers frown upon it, don't consider it 'original' work etc. but Fan Fiction can be a guaranteed method of reaching a larger audience. So even if you think your piece isn't all that great, this is your opportunity to have it reviewed by someone who has edited thousands of pages of fanfiction both for complete newcomers and also award winning authors and read thousands more. Some of the writers I've been a beta for have gone on to become published writers, so who knows, maybe you will be next!

The contest will be open indefintely until I can get some idea about the number of entries. If I don't get more than ten entries in the first month I'll probably close it. If the turnout is large, I'll make it a regular monthly contest.
