The Rendezvous Hotel A History In the town where I grew up, there was an old hotel. It was called The Rendezvous. The Rendezvous was a wondrous example of an architecture of a bygone era when it was still unlucky to have a room number 13, and every bedroom had its own porcelain pitcher and bowl on a little washstand in lieu of a bathroom. On the inside, there were twisting stairways leading up to endless guest rooms. They were tucked beneath high-ceilinged hallways that echoed our footsteps as we explored the winding corridors. On the outside, there were sprawling verandas lined with high-backed rockers that invited guests to linger. The sprawling, grass-carpeted grounds were shaded by ancient, moss-covered oaks, that ran down to the edge of a peaceful, meandering river. How that view must have soothed guests' tired spirits as they sat there. The Rendezvous was always such a restful place. I wanted to re-create it here--as a haven for all who enter. I invite you now. Come in. Feel free to explore. Wander its hallways. Rock your blues away on the veranda. Stroll across the grounds. As you do, May the spirit of that once majestic haven Bring you peace. And, when you leave, May that peace go with you. |
