  ( Note UPDATES as of 6 February 2008... ) Well, folks... my dictionary defines "story" as a tale of either Fictional OR Non-fictional origin, and thus, this Contest is being created. This competition will be reserved strictly for Non-fictional tales, either involving the author personally and/or an event with which the author is personally familiar, and may be inclusive of the author's observations, philosophies, and/or conclusions as they pertain to his or her subject matter or the story they are relating. Entries may center around past, present, or anticipated future events and are NOT limited to human experience (i.e., they may involve a pet, nature, a spiritual experience, etc.). I do not automatically equate "spiritual" or "paranormal" experiences with being "Fictional"... providing they are experiences that have truly taken place. I'll be looking for polished pieces that captivate, hold, and powerfully touch, move, or otherwise impact me in some way... how it does so will be entirely left to you! Please be advised that grammar, spelling, and format WILL play a role in determining winners. These will not be the " be-all, end-all " qualities that winning stories must have ~ but they WILL play a significant role. Nothing distracts from an otherwise superb story more than unkempt format or a lack of attention to proper spelling and grammar. When you create a piece of artistry, you never frame it shabbily ~ and I am looking for flair, talent, and artistry with the pen. Paint with words... and ' frame ' your work to maximally showcase it ! And remember ~ your Brief Description is your reader's first glimpse of what treasure might lie within ! For the time being, this will be an ongoing, monthly contest. Round TWO has now begun and the DEADLINE for Round TWO is 11:59 P.M. WDC Time on 29 February 2008 (unless too few entries are received as of the deadline, which would automatically extend Round TWO's deadline to 11:59 P.M. WDC time on 31 March 2008. SEE NEW PROMPT POSTED BELOW. From that point on, as long as finances permit, each subsequent Round will begin on the 1st of each month and end at 11:59 PM on the evening of the last day of that month. Prizes will be awarded on or about the 15th of the month following that in which the associated Round began. EACH ENTRY WILL BE GENERALLY RATED & REVIEWED, BUT NO SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE R & R IN ORDER TO KEEP THE CONTEST COMPETITIVELY FAIR. IN THE EVENT THAT A PARTICULAR ROUND DRAWS LESS THAN TEN ACCEPTABLE ENTRIES, THAT ROUND WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE EXTENDED FOR ANOTHER FULL ROUND. NOTE: Ratings & Reviews other than my own (and/or Guest Judges, if and when applicable) WILL NOT be taken into consideration in ANY WAY in determining Winners. THEREFORE, "LOW-BALLING" A-N-Y COMPETITOR'S ENTRY WILL N-O-T AFFECT THE JUDGING OUTCOME. Entrants may polish/edit their story(ies) up until the deadline date only. We are operating on the Honor System in that regard. Your story may involve you or any person/place/thing/event/circumstance(s) you are aware of / familiar with. Entries must consist of 3,000 words or less. A Word Count MUST be noted at the conclusion of your piece. 4. All Entries must be newly created for this contest and uploaded into your personal Writing.com Portfolio. 5. You may enter as many as TWO short stories per Contest Round. 6. You retain exclusive rights to all Entries, and they must consist entirely of your own, Non-fictional work. 7. ALL entries must be in BITEM FORMAT - (you just type... {bItem: 0000000}, plugging in your Entry's Item Number in your Portfolio where you see "0's here, and deleting the space between the colon and your Entry's Porfolio Item number). Your Entry must in some way involve some aspect of each month's Prompt. Entries do NOT have to include the prompt's wording in their texts, but MUST in some way tie into the prompt for each Round. Aspects of sub-genre "flavoring" of any kind and/or number are permissible (Comedic, Romance, Suspense, Psychology, Mystery, etc.) ~ as long as the Entry itself is NON-FICTION. 9. CASH GRAND PRIZE WINNERS may choose one of two options: a cash prize sent to you via your Paypal account OR an ONLINE Gift Certificate from any reliable online site of your choice. 10.There will, for now, be NO RATING LIMIT / REQUIREMENT placed on perspective Entries.
