With the recent passing of WDC member Emilbus™ , a Rising Star, many members have been encouraged to make their personal information known to one or more close friends on Writing.com. While no one likes to think about something happening to themselves, things do happen. This program is to help members have someone they trust keep a watchful eye on their port, and in the event something happens to them and/or their membership is nearing expiration, the member's Guardian Angel will then notify the Rising Stars group.

Real life situations might keep you away from your port for extended lengths of time. If you are unable to access the internet and log onto Writing.com, you might be unaware that your membership is about to expire. These possibilities might include computer problems, students returning to school, beginning a new job, or becoming a new parent. In addition to these types of situations, there might also be serious health issues for yourself or a family member, and/or death(s). In all of these examples of real life events, having someone look after your port and notify you when your upgrade is nearing expiration will benefit not only yourself, but the entire community. Many times ports simply vanish without explanation, leaving those who were familiar with the authors' work with many questions and emotions. By choosing a Guardian Angel(s) and participating in the Registry, we can all look out for each other—and that is what a real community does.





Ask someone to be your Guardian Angel(s) and then complete the application survey:

A registration fee of 1,000 gps is required at the time of registering. 50% of your fee will be contributed to Rising Stars and 50% will be kept to help maintain my upgrade so I can continue to lead this program.

Members are considered active reviewers if they have reviewed 3 Rising Stars each month for the past 3 months prior to completing the registration survey. Please note that there is no charge for being a Guardian Angel.

It is highly recommended that each member choose two Guardian Angels (the first to be contacted and then the second) in the event something happens to you and your primary G.A. is away and cannot be reached. This is optional and you may only choose one G.A., but having two might give you greater peace of mind.

Give your Guardian Angel your home address and phone number, as well as any instructions on what to do and who to speak with if something happens to you.

You may also give your private information to me as a backup in case your Guardian Angel(s) is away from Writing.com for long periods of time. Any personal details you offer will be contained within a private static item within my port. Your personal information will be held in confidence, and Gabriella and myself are the only people who will ever see this information.

Discuss with your Guardian Angel whether or not you wish to have copies made of your work and mailed to your home address in the event of your death. If you have not made arrangements with a family member to contact Writing.com, there is a possibility your port will eventually vanish from WDC instead of turning white. If you have already made hard copies of your work, it is not necessary to have your Guardian Angel do this, so please discuss this option ahead of time.



Keep your member's personal information in confidence! DO NOT post the member's private information in this forum or share with anyone else within the WDC community unless you have been given permission to do so.

Keep a watchful eye on the member's port. If weeks go by without any new activity and you have not seen the member online or heard from him/her, email the member and/or ask around to see if they are all right. If you still don't hear from them, try to make contact via the instructions you have previously discussed with your member.

In the event of port expiration, prolonged unexplained absence, serious illness or death of your member, please post in the forum or email me directly to inform the Rising Stars group of the situation.

Guardian Angels are encouraged to limit themselves to 3 members' ports to watch over. This is for your benefit as well as the members themselves. Being a Guardian Angel is a huge responsibility, so please do not overload yourself by taking on too many members.
