Please - stop in, grab a chair and chat with me a while! All are welcome here!
While you're here, I'd like to tell you a bit about myself. I've been writing for over fifteen years although more for personal enjoyment than the pursuit of publication. Four years ago I went through a very difficult trauma: domestic violence. After that point I was blocked completely for four long years. I simply could not reach the part of me that was creative. After a year I gave up trying but in September of 2008, the block ended with a major mental breakthrough.
Ever since that point I've been writing with a style and ability I never knew I had. My therapist explained to me that up until that point, I had been living with the perspective of an innocent child and it wasn't until that point that I became an adult, and my perspective matured. My writing has matured as a result as well as my viewpoints of the world. I still have much to learn about people, relationships, and circumstances but much of my writing deals with these types of themes, typically abuse, sexuality, abandonment and other strong issues that face real people. That being said, not all of my writing is sad or deep; as with life, there are aspects of it which are lighter.
In addition to writing, I'm a single mother to my daughter, Liberty (aka Libby for short). She has been a complete blessing to my life and has taught me so much. I've learned compassion and empathy toward others and myself, as well as unconditional love an emotion I'd never experienced previously. Every day is a new experience as she learns and grows into the remarkable person I'm sure she will become. Much of my writing also addresses motherhood, womanhood, and the changes that are naturally occurring through our journeys, hers and mine, through life.
I'm also a financial professional with my own business. As a woman, this is an accomplishment I relish as it allows me a great deal of freedom to control my own life. While I often supplement my income with part-time or full-time jobs, I'm no longer at the mercy of an employer dictating my life. This causes me to job hop as many employers are very rigid with their expectations but it gives me the freedom to pursue my own ideals. Some of my writing deals with nonfiction topics such as business, finance, and the various money topics involved that I'm highly trained in.
Fortunately, it's not all work and no play for me. I have numerous hobbies, including poker, movies, music, and spending time with friends and family. My life is full of ups, down, and sideways journeys but I'm grateful for the wonderful people who are a part of my life and feel that, even in the worst of times, I'm blessed. This includes my online circle of friends which has grown significantly since joining WDC.
Now it's your turn! Tell me about you, your likes and dislikes, what you're passionate about, what makes you want to write, what you're struggling with - you name it! If you have a blog, I'd love to take a look, just post a bitem and I'll be sure to stop by. Or just carry on a conversation with me. This space is for you, treasured visitor, to do with as you wish. I look forward to many engaging conversations with you!
