Brainstorming & Re-Envisioning by Ren [#1516967]
A Review Forum offering answers, not just problems! Coming soon!

StarOpen and eager for challenges!Star

Are you stuck?
Can’t get a certain scene right?
Non-cooperative heroes, or background characters trying to steal the show?
Maybe your plot has run aground, crashed, lost steam or just run amuck.

Or are you a serious novel writer who has polished and submitted your manuscript
but all you get is form or vague rejection letters?

Perhaps you got lucky and an agent took the time to scribble a couple sentences for you like: “Nice writing, but weak plot or too slow” or “Interesting idea, but characters are flat or all the same” or my personal favorite “lacks spark”.Confused After the shock wore off, did you wonder what they meant? Or where to go from there?

I believe the revisions process is more than just line-by-line polishing, obsessive adverb hunts or search-and-destroy-passive-voice missions.(Ever count the adverbs as you read Harry Potter, or note the passive voice in Twilight?Reading) Don’t get me wrong – such tactics are useful and important, but I think the true power lies in being able to “Re-Envision”.

Looking at a story with fresh eyes, with an open mind to the possibilities and potentials hidden there can be difficult – especially with our own stuff.

IdeaHow this review forum works:

First of all, you know your story and characters better than me. I see my part as helping brainstorm and get ideas churning and help see options you may not have thought of. There is nothing sacred about any suggestions I make and I invite discussion from you and anyone else who might wander by and have an idea. Bouncing and tweaking ideas can uncover gems in rough stone or spark new ideas altogether.

QuestionNeed help with just a scene? Post a couple paragraphs of background and your concerns, then post what you have written of the scene or a link to the chapter. Cost: 100 gps

QuestionNeed help with a character or specific plot element? Give me a run down about the character, your story, your concerns etc. and I will give feedback and possible ideas. Cost: 300 gps

ExclaimNeed help on a novel? Okay, here’s the deal. This is really where I want to focus. Because of the commitment level of this need I’m only going to take it one project at a time so that I can focus on each book. I will keep a waiting list though. Post a link to your book. Feel free to explain any particular concerns or what you want to focus on. I will read 10 chapters – and synopsis if you have one and are willing to share. Then I will give you whatever ideas and suggestions I can. Although I do not plan to give line-by-line on the chapters, I am prepared to give advice in whatever areas I think might help you, from issues like head-hopping and passive voice, to plot holes, overly cliché or too predictable. If you like the help I give and I’m a good fit for the novel, we can discuss price based on your needs and I will continue on the novel. The first round should give a good impression of whether it is a win-win for both of us. Cost: 2,000 gps

I specialize in helping:
Star Up the Stakes of Characters – emotionally, physically, socially
Star Deepen Characters – moving beyond the stereotyped to make them human and different
Star Stronger Plotlines
Star More Action
Star More Danger
Star More Unique Storyline
Star Delightfully Unexpected Twists

Exceptions: Just like any reader or adviser, I don’t know everything, nor do I read everything or write everything. If I’m not in your target audience, then I’m probably not the best to take advice from. Find someone used to the workings of that genre.
Thumbsup I love fantasy and was raised on mystery, westerns, sci-fi and Christian works. I enjoy romance, but prefer it as a sub-plot as opposed to the dominant genre.

Thumbsdown I steer clear of any heavy romance, bedroom sequences, immorality, graphic violence, horror or GLBT stuff – please, nothing +18 rating or higher. If your book is in the latter group, I probably can’t help much, but wish you luck with finding the help you need from another.

Why charge?Dollar

I’m busy, as most people are. I don’t have time to help everyone. I have a number of jobs and plenty of projects – not the least of which being my own books & writing – that I could spend every waking minute and still not finish them.Worry I want this resource for those who are serious, and I want to put my effort where it will count. When one is given something free, it is too easy to take lightly and hard to balance supply and demand. The gps go to finance my upgrade and thereby justify the time spent here to my Spouse.Cool

However, if you would prefer to barter and trade reviews of similar value, like most writers, I am always eager for feedback and help on my own stuff. E-mail me.

If in the event that you ask for help and feel that my feedback does not help you or falls short of the fee, e-mail me and we will discuss a refund. On the same note, if discussion in the forum brings someone else in and they offer the gem to solve your concerns, I would be happy to redirect the fee to them, as a gift for their help.Gift3
