Do you like to give helpful, encouraging reviews that explore the different aspects of the item at hand? Do you like to dig a little deeper than the surface? Would you like to expand the content and quality of your reviews, but aren't sure how? If so, this is the place for you!
In our time spent on WDC, we've encountered many reviews, and just as many reviewing styles. All are an essential part of our community and vital to any writer. The focus here is on the quality of the reviews you give, not the quantity.
What is an in-depth review, and how do I give one?
Good question. There are many different techniques and styles a reviewer can implement. An in-depth review isn't just a pat on the back to the author, or a few technical issues you may have noticed. It explores your impressions as a reader. What did you think about the characters? Did the setting work for the story? Did the writer show enough to make you feel like you were a part of it, or did they tell you too much? Did the plot flow? Did certain aspects drag? What did you like? What, if anything, didn't you like? Were you left with unanswered questions? All of these things play a part in helping the writer understand how their story impacted their reader.
The same goes for poetry. Flow, format, technique, punctuation, and even the impressions left upon a reader, all help give a deeper understanding of what worked and what didn't.
Still not sure how to go about this? That's fine! We all start somewhere. We learn by doing, by practice, and by research.
How do I join?
Easy! We accept all members of the Angel Army. If you would like to participate in the forum, please either leave a note here or e-mail me and I will add you to the group.
Our group will have bi-weekly newsletters covering the different techniques, aspects, and concerns of in-depth reviews.
Every month, this forum will offer selected pieces from the port-raid authors, as well as from the author spotlight for in-depth reviews. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to review these pieces.
This enables you to:
Get reviewing credits and gift points. You must make reviews for this forum public and use and Angel Army signature to get credit.
Get triple the Angel Points for completing the list!
Vote! At the end of each month, you, the reviewers, get to decide which piece was the best from the port-raid group. The item that receives the most votes will get a 50k ribbon on behalf of the group. All spotlight authors will get a 10k ribbon.
Win your own prizes! At the end of each month, three lucky reviewers will be chosen as the most helpful. For their hard-earned efforts, they get a merit badge! The most outstanding participant will also be awarded a plaque to honor their contributions.
Learn and help other writers in the process. Reviews benefit all involved. Be it writing a review, receiving a review, or just reading a detailed one, we all take something from the process.
When you have finished posting your public review, please leave a note in the forum, just in case I may have missed it! Please be sure to use one of our group only signatures and/or use the group affiliation option to make them a bit more noticeable.
